actually said by a guy I worked with

"It is doubtless, perhaps" - Dostoyevsky

I remember reading the intro essay to Brothers Karamazov (never read the book). The author of the essay translated one of Dostoyevsky's ripping sarcasms for us and it was the above quote.

Speaking on NFL Total Access, David Carr said his brother, Derek Carr's, free agency will be "a long process."

David added, "He wants to do his due diligence and see as many places as he can to get a feel for what the best place for him will be." Derek had visits with the Saints and Jets over the weekend, the latter of which "went very well." Carr finds himself in a unique situation being able to sign with a new club before the new league year begins, but it sounds like the nine-year veteran will take his time with his decision after being released by the Raiders less than a week ago.

So Rodgers hasn't spoken to the GM yet. If things don't speed up this week, then move on to signing Carr already assuming the deal isn't too crazy. Hopefully with an out clause after 2 years if he doesn't pan out.

Gotta hold out for Rodgers, he's far and away their best option. If don't get him can pivot to someone like Jimmy G.

I just dont trust Rodgers. He is an egomaniac and this could all be to stir the pot. Hes been back for a while and if he still hasnt decided I wouldnt wait any longer. There is a big gap in my opinion between Carr and Jimmy G - especially health wise. If Carr wants to make a decision and ARod is still pondering I hope JD makes the move with Carr.

I agree 100% with this.

Can't hold out too long. This has to be settled before the start of free agency. They will need to restructure contracts and cut players. Not to mention, if they end up with Rodgers, he may have conditions for the deal like signing certain free agents (from GB). They have a little over 2 weeks to get this done. The clock is ticking.

I saw something yesterday (not sure how accurate) that said Jacoby Brissett could be the Jets fall back option. If that happens, I'll turn over the keys to this thread because I'm out of Jet land - I just can't watch them give away another season.

Sorry, you have a contract for life. We can't afford for our thread title to become like some of the lame ones that tried copying you.

After they raised ticket prices I just cant see them going into the season with Brisset. I am fairly confident it will be one of Arod, Carr or Jimmy G

Not sure how JD could keep a straight face....but if he truly still does believe in Wilson then Rodgers makes more sense than Carr.....but seriously Wilson can not be a factor in any decision IMO

Jets general manager Joe Douglas said Zach Wilson has a "very high ceiling."

“Our stance on Zach hasn’t changed," Douglas said during an interview at the NFL Combine. "Zach has a very high ceiling. … When players love this game and work their tails off, they usually hit their ceiling. Still feel strongly Zach’s going to hit his.” Don't look for Jets officials to dunk on Wilson even as they seek a veteran alternative to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft. Douglas said the Jets had a "fantastic" interview with free agent QB Derek Carr, who also met with the Panthers during the Combine. "He left a strong impression with everybody," Douglas said of Carr. Wilson was horrific in his sophomore season: Only Baker Mayfield had a worse completion rate over expected and only four quarterbacks had a lower EPA per drop back. Wilson is more likely to begin the 2023 season as a backup in New York than the team's starter.

When Woody gets involved you know its close. Gets them closer to locking up Carr and also puts pressure on GB/Arod to make a decision and on trade comp. I can see JD leveraging Carr to not have to give up a 1st rder this yr. If a trade went down I could see a 2d this yr and comp next yr depending on how much he plays, does he play in 2024, etc - either way its looking more and more like Carr or Arod. Make it happen!

@RapSheet

QB Derek Carr met with the #Saints and #Panthers yesterday, sources say, with Carolina owner David Tepper joining the meeting in Indy. Today, #Jets brass will meet with the FA QB, including owner Woody Johnson. Carr also met with New Orleans owner Gayle Benson previously.

Rodgers says that he doesn't want to drag things out....as he drags things out.
He's making this decision easier in my eyes...who the heck wants to go through this every year. Hes definitely the best available QB but man hes tough to deal with - every day I lean further toward Carr

You might have to lean on JD and Woody. I think a lot of fans are leaning this way, but it's up to the decision-makers.

Rumors picking up that Saints have made a formal offer to Carr. I dont see Carr waiting that much longer - definitely will cut a deal before FA starts 3/15 so maybe another week or so.

Meanwhile Rodgers doing his best Favre impression.....

I trust JD - but man I dont want to get left out in the cold waiting on ARod too long.

The rumors were Carr's camp did not want to talk money on the initial visits and were more interested in fit. He now met with teams for a second time at the combine - so I would expect offers to come in now.
At this point, the team can't wait on Rodgers at the risk of ending up with a Brisset or a Wentz after the music stops.

Yeah, I've been on the "wait for Rodgers" train this whole time. But the idea of missing out on Carr as well is just so tough to swallow. It really is a total game of chicken. And my dislike of Rodgers personally just makes me think he's gonna drag this out for longer than needed (possibly screwing us)

And the constantly changing rumors of what it would take to get Rodgers (in terms of trade compensation) spook me as well.

I REALLY think the Jets need that 13th pick to add one more impact young player (either on the O-line or perhaps at safety if there's a big time swiss army knife type that you can get)

I think "official" tampering starts on the 13th, so that's what would be the deadline I imagine.

It doesn't sound like Carr has a big market imo. It feels like a lot of the QB needy teams will go the draft route. The Saints for sure have legit interest in Carr.

Carolina was talking about re-signing Darnold. Their interest sounds tepid at best.

I think the Jets don't really want Carr and are just keeping him as a fall-back option. Carr needs the Jets to have interest to drive up his price (with New Orleans).

I would bet a lot of the unofficial tampering is happening this week. The Jets have probably talked to Jimmy G's agent off the record. An alleged Jets insider (and he has said some things that have come true) says that the Jets feel confident about landing Rodgers if he doesn't go back to GB although they recognize that it's a toss-up at best if he gets traded. There is just a likely chance that he stays in GB.

I would not include that 13th pick this year in any deal for Rodgers. Give them a second rounder this year at best. Maybe a first rounder next year. Hopefully with conditions.

As a non Jets fan.....I'd be pushing in for Rodgers on this team. That O would be great and they'd jump over BUF and CIN as the 2nd Super Bowl favorites from the AFC. People always talk about getting a QB on a rookie/cheap deal as being a key component to success in todays NFL. Jets have elite talent on rookie deals right now (Wilson/Breece/Sauce). Get that vet QB in....sneak a Super Bowl when those youngsters are on rookie deals and when Rodgers leaves; they'll use that money they paid him to pay for Sauce/Wilson.

Non-Jets fan here and if I was a Jets fan I'd be hoping for Rodgers or Jimmy G.

I just don't see Carr handling the pressure of playing in NY very well. I'll get some pushback on this but he's just not a winner to me. Most know he's not won a playoff game, of course he only got one shot. That one shot his team had a shot to win and he wilted under the pressure and threw into triple coverage on 4th and goal. He's the guy who in another game threw the ball away on 4th down. People can say I don't have much concrete to go on to say he's not a winner and if they do I'd just like to ask what have you stand on to say he is?

For Carr's sake I hope he goes to Carolina. I think the coaching staff is ideal for him and I just got this feeling he'd be more comfortable playing with them then anywhere else showing interest.

Yeah, I think that's all fair, which is why I'm rooting for us to get Rodgers.

IMO, Carr makes us a likely playoff team (assuming health for key pieces) for the next 3 years (when all the talent they've added in the past 2 drafts will all be on their rookie deals. Sauce, Hall, AVT, Garrett Wilson, Moore...who I still believe in, Johnson, Clemons). They're obviously gonna have to pay Q, make a decision on Becton, keep guys like Reed, Bryce Huff, etc....but the CORE of the team will likely be cheap and intact through the 2025 season.

But I've seen the Jets make the playoffs. I've seen us play in back to back AFC title games. It was freaking awesome. I was 26-27 years old during the 2009 and 2010 runs and the world was my oyster. But I dont need that again. I need a freaking title. That's all I care about. And IMO, despite a drop off last year (which I think was mostly due to the thumb and lack of weapons for most of the season) Rodgers has one or 2 BIG years left. And I think he's more likely than Carr to lead a talented team like ours to the big one.

Of course, you have to weigh the draft pick opportunity cost. We need 2 or 3 more top end pieces. And its much harder to get those if you give GB all your draft picks

Let's start there, I've never seen a QB, a true leader, go on some type of dark journey into a cave to see if they still wanted to play football. Sounds like crazyville.
How have veteran QBs from other teams typically worked out for New York? Favre, O'Donnell, and I'm sure there are others.

If the Jets were in love with Carr, he'd already be wearing the green jersey.
I believe the Jets want to keep their options open in case Jackson truly digs in or verbalizes that he no longer will play for the Ravens.
Lamar Jackson in his prime at 26 and is NOTHING like other QBs the Jets have brought in.
As a Miami fan I would have nightmares about Jackson if he played for New York. Josh Allen is bad enough already. Add in Lamar and this division becomes next to impossible.

I kind of feel the same way. I really don't know all that much about Carr the person other than what I've read the past couple of months. He seems overly-sensitive and I'm afraid NY will destroy him. Maybe it's just my anti-religious bias.

I did watch every Raiders game this year and actually thought he was pretty overrated despite some great throws. He missed a lot of open throws. It feels like every game the Raiders got off to a good first half. Adams would either have a great series/quarter/half, but never see another target again until they were down late in the game. I blame the play-calling for that. Their defense was bad and they seemed to want to run in the second half until they would blow their lead. All that said, he is huge upgrade over Wilson, but is he worth the price? I doubt it, plus the bust factor is big in NY.

Duane Brown coming back for one more year. So it will be interesting to see what they do at 13. (assuming they have it).

Man.....if only Becton could stay healthy. It would just make everything so much easier.

Brown should be irrelevant for any decisions about the future. He's probably the LT for one more season. Becton, if he makes it through the year, would be at RT before they possibly move him back to LT if Mitchell sticks at RT.

Regardless, as we know, it's a risky proposition relying on Becton until he see a couple of healthy seasons from him.

They should draft a LT at 13 regardless. Trading down wouldn't be bad either. Get a center and another tackle/guard versatile lineman.

I was defending Becton last offseason, and while I don’t doubt him working at getting healthy, his history has to be “baked into” any analysis of what they do with the o-line and the draft.

Becton is a huge wild card - he looks in shape from what Ive seen....if he can stay healthy and work back into a starting tackle position - with the return of Brown it really helps them big time as far as flexibility goes. However you cant count on either so they should still invest a high pick to develop but maybe a 2d/3rd rder instead of a 1st. Id still love them to trade down and get the best center on the board.

I'm old enough to remember the "Lets Make A Deal" TV show.

At the final contest there were 3 doors to choose from, 2 containing valuable prizes, behind one a "Zonk Prize" - something like a billy goat.
After the contestant picked their prize door, but before the contestant door was opened the alternate valuable prize door was revealed; leaving either the Zonk or big winner left.

Not sure why I just thought of the "Lets Make A Deal" TV show, but now I can't get it out of my head.

Hey, it was a great show. Continue your Jets parallel. It's in there somehow.

All I know is Zach Wilson was the Zonk Prize.....

"Do you Feel Lucky" NYRAGE???

Saints to sign Carr.

Lol, I told you yesterday that Carr leaning to the Jets was a message to the Saints to up their offer.
JD officially all in on A-Rod......hope he has a deal in place with GB as this hurts his leverage.

One crazy A-Rod message/podcast from a reality of Jimmy G, Brisset, Wentz....

I'm not a lucky person. At least with good luck. I would have ended up with the goat every time...but who knows, I could have been ahead of the times and been rich from inventing goat yoga.

Haven't we suffered enough? I don't know about you guys, but I just turned 56 and have suffered for 52 years with this franchise.

I still think Rodgers was plan A and Jimmy G was the fallback option.

It's not just sour grapes about him signing elsewhere, but I wrote above somewhere that Carr would be a big upgrade on Wilson, but not really cut out for NY. He's too sensitive and would have gotten eaten up alive. I can only imagine how much praying he would have needed to do the first day the press and fans turn on him.

51 and no super bowl in my lifetime - dad use to take me to Shea from when I was 6 yrs old. Some of my best memories was going to the Diamond Club after the game and see Klecko throwing down beers with fans. The worst memories are too many to mention
