2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (1 Viewer)

Interesting nugget in this Athletic article polling NFL agents:

"Best GM" - Howie got the most votes (10 out of 23 votes)

"Which Front Office person do you trust the most" - Howie got zero votes (out of 23 votes)

In the GM game, nice guys finish last :lmao:

Howie/Eagles also tied for 1st on "Best talent evaluator." Some of the comments, throughout:

• “Howie deserves so much credit, but a GM is only as good as their scouts, and the Eagles have had a great staff.”

• “Look, I hate to say it, but (Roseman) keeps putting together good rosters and wins games.”

• “Sometimes he’s cutthroat, but (Roseman) finds a way to get the right guys for the roster and their salary cap.”

• “(Roseman) gets ahead of extensions and gets guys to take less money. That’s a sign.”

Both teams across the street at the Wells Fargo Center should take notes. This is how a proper Club is run. Great GM but also you can't always trust them in terms of being out for your interest. Also you dont award or enable poor behavior and have players run the show. Don't hand out terrible contracts and hand out deals you know you can get out of if need be

I like the fact that he has grown over the years. He made some bad mistakes but has learned to not make them again. Laurie deserves credit for sticking with him for the most part.

I wish Howie Roseman was my GM.

Isaiah Rodgers was a quality starting CB who also played ST in Indy, and because of a gambling suspension, he's now an Eagle. Wouldn't be shocked he was starting for Philly in 2024, and at worst he's a top backup CB.

Great zero risk/high reward move.

Per John Clark Source confirms Eagles DE Derek Barnett and his agent Drew Rosenhaus are seeing if there is anyone out there in the NFL that would trade for him and give him more playing time. The Eagles are not shopping him and would be happy if he stays.

Fan of this move. They must know its not more than a year suspension I guess, considering its an "indefinite suspension" as of now.

Bleacher report did a 5 teams that shouldn’t trade for JT Eagles came in at 2

  1. The Philadelphia Eagles came so close to securing their second Lombardi Trophy of the last half-decade, falling by a mere three points in the most recent Super Bowl. While the loss certainly stung, Philadelphia shouldn't overreact by trading for Jonathan Taylor. This group should feel confident in its current core of talent taking it back to the Big Game soon, even after starting running back Miles Sanders defected in free agency following the disappointing defeat.
Though Sanders was the team's leading rusher, the Eagles averaged the fifth-most yards per game on the ground last year due to strong depth in their platoon, the brilliance of quarterback Jalen Hurts and an excellent offensive line. The Eagles are arguably deeper at running back this year than they were in 2022 after signing a pair of proven veterans in D'Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny. While they have both been injury-prone during their careers, Philly has competent backups in spades with both Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott returning to the fold.
Factor in that Hurts—who is only entering his fourth NFL season—amassed 760 yards and a team-high 13 rushing touchdowns on 165 carries, and it's hard to see a scenario in which this group isn't going to be a force on the ground. Taylor would be a frivolous and costly addition who wouldn't provide enough benefits to justify his trade cost or the type of extension he's seeking

Philly voice on cuts that Eagles could take

If the Eagles were to add players, the following positions would make sense:

  1. Punter: Arryn Siposs ain't it.
  2. Linebacker depth: The Eagles should be happy with Zach Cunningham as their starter opposite Nakobe Dean after Cunningham had a good camp, but Christian Elliss is the only sure thing to make the roster otherwise.
  3. Nose tackle: The Eagles have a lot of young, intriguing interior defensive linemen, but they don't really have a backup NT behind Jordan Davis.
  4. Backup center: Cam Jurgens is the center of the future and Landon Dickerson can play there in a pinch, but the Eagles would also probably like to have a guy who can fill in directly from the bench.
  5. Outside wide receiver: They're thin here, as Quez Watkins would be the first guy up should A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith go down, and then the cupboard is bare thereafter.
  6. Pat O’Donnell 32In a bit of a surprise result, O'Donnell was beaten out by second-year undrafted punter Daniel Whelan. O'Donnell finished 22nd in punter EPA in 2022, one spot behind Siposs. 45.1 career yards per punt average, 39.2 career net. 44.5 yards per punt in 2022, with a 38.5 net. He had two punts blocked. O'Donnell is a better "pin deep" punter than he is an "open field" punter, just like Siposs. He's also 32, so there should be no reasonable hope that he'll get markedly better. He is probably not an ideal option.
P Corliss Waitman (28): The Pats added Waitman during free agency this offseason, in March, but he lost his competition to rookie sixth-round pick Bryce Baringer. Waitman punted for the Broncos last season, averaging 46.6 yards per punt, and a net average of 41.4 yards per punt. Again, Waitman's "open field" and "pin deep" effectiveness is similar to Siposs'. He has been on five different NFL teams, but has only been his team's "starting" punter for one season. Again, I'm not sure he's the answer.
  7. There two other punting battles that are worth watching today:

    1. Saints: Blake Gillikin vs. Lou Hedley
    2. Steelers: Pressley Harvin III vs. Braden Mann

We covered Gilliken vs. Hedley in a little more depth here. We'll update when that battle is decided.

Also, Adam Caplan pointed out a nugget that the Eagles attempted to claim Mann off of waivers in April. However, he was awarded to the Steelers, who also claimed him. Should the Steelers cut Mann, the Eagles could have interest.
    3. Linebacker depth

LB Christian Kirksey (30): Kirksey had 124 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs, and 5 pass breakups on a bad Texans team a year ago. He has been a starter for almost the entirety of his NFL career, so he would have to be willing to play a backup and special teams role (and make very little money) for the Eagles to add him. Assuming he finds somewhere to play, Kirksey is entering his 10th season in the NFL, the bulk of which has been with dreadful teams. If he's looking to chase a ring, that's the only way I could squint and see a fit, but it feels unlikely.

      Nose tackle

Linval Joseph is still a free agent. Otherwise, there are no obvious available players yet.
    4. C Tyler Larsen (32): The Commanders cut Larsen, but could be bringing him back after they cut down to 53.
    5. Outside wide receiver

      No obvious available players yet.

If we don't keep Goodrich, Scott will be back. PS probably. We don't have a backup slot and it sure as heck isn't James Bradberry.

Derek Barnett still sticking around eh.

I don't. We wouldn't have re-did his deal if it was make the team or cut. Feels like he will either be on the team or part of some sort of trade really.

That's what I was saying. Have to figure they've looked into it just like 30 other teams.

Doubt they do if everyone has past there’s stuff in there they either don’t trust or or didn’t like. If I’m correct wasnt university police investigating his issues? If so I would want an outside person doing it. Most of these police forces are run by the schools in these college towns not the people paying taxes.

Albert O. is not a good blocker. At all. That's why he wasn't playing.

You guys got Albert O for the Denzel Mims price. That should make one wary when they think they've found a diamond. . .

He might be great. I personally liked his talent. But the NFL doesn't seem to. That's two coaches now that have buried him on the depth chart.

3rd string TE. If he learns something, great. If not, he's cut. Life goes on.

Right. I understand that. The question is whether the guys claiming he "can block" understand that. Or if this is one big cookie party with Roseman in the middle, I'll show myself the door.
