2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (14 Viewers)

Think I heard this stat right:

Jalen Hurts is the only QB in 75 years to win 12 straight regular season games against teams with winning records.
The only stat I care about in the end is how many SB trophies everything else to me is kind of pointless. Fun stats to look at but they are just that. Look at Kurt Cousins Tony Romo. Captains of the regular season stat totals but zero SBs. Those are great stats but both have crumbled in the big moments

Rams correcting their 2016 choice, somehow manage to get the first and second pick of the year. I had actually hoped they would draft Wentz and Goff to Eagles at the time, oh how things would have been so different including the SB in '17.
So crazy that in a sport so competitive that it took until 11/7/23 for him to sign. There has to be so many horror stories we haven’t heard yet.
While that is probably true, I think it also has to do with him being more selective than just signing with whoever offered so he can get pummelled. At least with McVay maybe he can salvage some of his talent and find another job elsewhere.

I was never a big Goff fan but many were wanting zeke here and didn’t want either QB. Don’t even think we win a SB if we didn’t draft Wentz. I mean so people think the samantha Bradford would’ve done that well? Andy Ried didn’t even want to draft the guy in Philly if he could because he didn’t think he had the thick skin for it. It’s one of the reasons he took McNabb as he knew he could take the backless well enough. We’re their times he couldn’t? Sure but for the most part he didn’t crumble at times others would and Bradford complained about Fabs booing him

There’s also a lot of coaching egos believing certain guys aren’t worth it but others are. How many coaches past on Kurt Warner? How many coaches thought they could fix elix player and didn’t then a guy everyone past up on gets his chance instead. There’s a lot of different elements.

I’m only giving this as an example but how many teams are passing on Colin Kaepernick after he was cut? Teams wanted him as a back up but he didn’t want to fight for the job and was asking for ridiculous money. Maybe Wentz was asking for too much money at the time.

There’s more then 1 or 2 issues with players

The fact you think I hate Hurts so much it’s laughable when the amount you hate Wentz is just as much if not more. The funniest thing about this is so many people believe everything what the media tells them. I know two people including a coach there the whole time both Doug and Wentz and one of the bigger media guys is a customer of mine. A lot of them laugh at some of the ******** people believe all because of an agenda.

It’s so much easier for some to blame one or two people and regurgitate what talking heads say who aren’t even near the team let alone 10ft near team facilities daily thinking they know what’s going on. Gone are the days of being right in the media. It’s all clickbait.

That’s a good point to. If it is believe reports said he offered himself to the jets along with Kaepernick who we know from his public letter when Rodgers went down. After seeing that i then wondered why go to the jets when their offensive line is terrible and the reason Rodgers got hurt to begin with? Then a few people in the know told me that came out of nowhere and Wentz had very little interest with the Jets.

I would’ve thought Minn after Cousins went down and they traded for Donna being ND state neighbor. Don’t think he wanted to go to Cle either.

It could be getting the right situation for yourself too. The Rams are a good situation for him with their playcalling and all. Two very talented WRs an underrrated under used TE as well. RB is questionable till Williams comes back but if he rights the ship in LA who knows what’s possible.

Who said anything about Hurts? Sounds like a guilty conscience...

Maybe I’m in the rare population of Eagles fans that can 100% appreciate and be thankful for his contribution to winning our first SB while also recognizing that was his peak before he consistently regressed and never seemed to take accountability or have the self-awareness needed to be a leader.
True but my issue was he wasn’t the only one with lack of self awareness. Most of Doug and his staff were. At least Lurie and Roseman admitted behind closed doors “ we ****ed up and could’ve done better.” Howie tried to at least make admends with Doug which is why we had Reagor instead of Jefferson.

Same here. We probably don't win that SB without him that year, but he really went downhill and became unlikable. Now he just stole my cousin's job so I dislike him even more.

Hopefully it's a short stint there, and he'll be back working out for Instagram adding a nice pair of Rams' socks to his strange outfit.

I think most rational fans feel this way. That entire team and season was just typical Philly. We have a franchise QB with a photographic memory. He’s a combination of Rodgers and Manning along with a HC who’s changing the game from an aggressive standpoint. The underdog QB steps in to save the day. They have statues built and a couple years later they’re all gone lol. So crazy.

I’m sure there’s a lot of players who don’t take accountability or have much self awareness. There’s not many who were his age, had his ability and no one would touch him at the QB position. Kapernick was the closest that came to mind but his issues were glaring.

I can also say that the Wentz era and time here completely changed me as a fan too lol. I was so sure he was the next one and never would image we’d be here a few years later. As soon as I get ready to anoint a player I think of Wentz lol

This is exactly where I stand. No Super Bowl without his play that year. No Hurts also without him completely imploding upon himself either.

But I do believe the accounts about players having to talk to him when he "allegedly" got upset the team was having success without him.

I was looking back at the 2018 startup draft for a superflex dynasty league that I joined a couple years after it started.
It's a 24-team league with two copies of each player. The first overall QB pick was Carson Wentz, followed by the other Carson Wentz.
It's not a Philly league either so we weren't the only ones that bought into it.

typical Philly[…..]The underdog QB steps in to save the day.
At the DAL game last week, when Mariota started warming up, I looked around and saw everyone grimacing and thought, “Wow, we finally have a backup QB that a large contingent of our fans aren’t constantly thinking can do better than our starter!”
Funny it's the same guy a bunch of them probably wanted to trade our whole draft to move up to get for Chip Kelly.

Wentz gets a terrible rep and some of it is deserved. but what I hate most is people who won’t even admit he’s one of the big reasons we won the SB that year. It reminds me of the fans who still **** on McNabb

Wentz was the leading MVP candidate before going down and took brady 3 weeks to tie and surpass his TD throws that’s season. People forget how much Foles struggled those last few weeks. I think many forget how down everyone was and many had the negadelphia we got the bye but would lose anyway.

I remember a few people including Dino telling me “without that bye week we’d been ****ed!!! Thank god Wentz played as good as he did and the rest of the guys up till he was hurt.” DeFillipo and Reich asked Doug if they could take the bye week to go through a new game plan to work with Foles. They went back to Nick’s best season under Chip. That’s when the RPOs took off in Philly. After talking and going over film with Nick the 3 went to Doug Pederson and said this is the game plan we’re all comfortable with. Doug approved and the rest is history. Outside the playoff run most don’t realize how mediocre Foles was right before that and after. All they remember is how he played in the playoffs.

It sucks how everything went after that but no one person gets blamed over the other. Everyone from Lurie on down had their part on how things turned out after that. It’s just easy for many to blame one person instead of having a real debate what happened. Just regurgitating what the idiots who don’t know **** throw up on a wall hoping it sticks
Dude, I really don't think ANYBODY believes Wentz wasn't the biggest reason we were set up for that SB run. NOBODY. All of us were still on the Wentz wagon going into the next year, and some still the year after that. But he regressed big time, and the rumors of attitude just got worse and worse.

I can't speak for everyone, but I do think most of us hold no ill will towards Wentz and honestly do hope he resurrects his career. Not counting on it, but being a doubter is a long way from being a hater.

Honestly that’s every single fan I know. I don’t know anyone that simply hates Wentz and doesn’t recognize that without him we don’t have a ring.

That seems like a decade ago. What's the cutoff date?

All the confirmation I needed about wentz was his short stints with the Colts and redskins. They wanted no part of it after one season. And they were desperate for a qb. Do you recall how much better the eagles became immediately after wentz was benched for Hurts? It was like the sun rose and destroyed the night.

I bear no ill will to Carson. He helped the team win their first Super Bowl. I don't even particularly dislike him. I guess I just don't understand where he's coming from. I suspect that he's not that smart and doesn't particularly listen to his coaches...but I'm also not discounting that that Clowney hit to the head (and other hits thru the years) made him a little gagootz.

Those reports were proven false when Tim McManus who writes for the eagles stated that Sproles and Wentz had a heated discussion during rehab. He was made at himself and Sproles loudly got up and told him he can’t feel sorry for himself. That whole thing then turned into other outlets saying Wentz wasn’t happy with team success which wasn’t true. Jeff McLane started the whole lockerroom spat rumor. Sproles himself said there was voices raised but nothing to the extent some reported and he was trying to cheer Wentz up. Tim’s article refuted the report

This is why clowns like McLane keep their jobs because people believe his ********. Sproles was even on Kay Adams show in the last year and refuted Jeff’s report when Kay asked about it. Said there was no fighting.

I think Tanner Mckee us gonna become the loveable back up. And yeah a good proportion wanted to trade our who draft for the QBs but also would’ve done it for Ricky Williams. Just think we probably aren’t where we are today if we did either move

I wasn’t talking anyone specifically on this board. See that’s where my comment some on here need to grow thicker skin. You assumed I meant you in this situation and you know what they say about assuming.

Fortunately I’ve seen a lot more fans in general wish the guy luck then otherwise. I was more so talking about the knuckle dragging hoagie mouth breathers who worship at the alter of Cataldi and then some. Carson did have his problems while here but Wentz was the tip of an iceberg where Doug Pederson showed no accountability for his staff. That’s why doig had to go. There were deeper issues then just Wentz but all I hear from fans is it’s all Carson’s fault.

There’s a reason why Corey Udlin left when he did. He was a loyal man to the org and then ended up with a coach who showed zero accountability and then worked with a dc that even after we won a SB Lurie wanted to fire because he was embarrassed by the defensive display that night. Probably should’ve because Schwartz medical issues was all ********. He slept in the office all day. My coworkers son Dino Vasso ended up coaching the defebse most of that last season. Isn’t anyone wondering how jim miraculously is now coaching again? He pulled an urban Meyer on us. Some coaches were doing the job of others plus their own. It was a mess. Too many coaches were buddy buddy with players too.

I hate to say it as great as a SB win was for the fanbase and this franchise it just wasn’t the right group to run it back with or right staff. It seemed it went to many heads.

Sure but for the most part he didn’t crumble at times others would and Bradford complained about Fabs booing him
4 Wentz posts in the last hour. Need a pic of you in your Wentz Rams jersey when it arrives.

Who said anything about Hurts? Sounds like a guilty conscience...
You complain about my hate for Hurts constantly. I think your the one here with the guilty conscience.
So you are admitting you have hate for Hurts? I'm not alone broski
No im stating you seem to have an unhealthy hatred of Wentz but apparently love accusing others of an unhealthy hatred. It goes back to the whole hypocrisy thing I’ve talked about on here.
I dunno. I think my hatred of him is right on par and healthy. That video I shared via the X/Twitters kind of sums up everything without saying anything at all.

I rest my case. No more Wentz talk for me the rest of the year. I'm sure if you want to talk about Wentz this year, there will be plenty of Rams fans to talk to in their team thread.

All the confirmation I needed about wentz was his short stints with the Colts and redskins. They wanted no part of it after one season. And they were desperate for a qb. Do you recall how much better the eagles became immediately after wentz was benched for Hurts? It was like the sun rose and destroyed the night.
Check out this incredible leadership. Team wins the Super Bowl, and he's pouting with his head down while everyone is celebrating. I actually had not seen this clip before.

“None of us know the context and I won’t speculate” is what’s written in what you linked.

Apparently that doesn’t go for you
Yeah, that is that one guy's opinion. I don't share the same opinion. Many people have shared that exact video with opinions more on the spectrum of what i share.

I know you guys like to believe propaganda though, so that is kind of par.

Am I being punked? Is this a TV show? Is Ashton Kucher going to pop out here in a minute??

I’m believing propaganda ???

And if he was being selfish…do you feel the same about your 6 game record holding WR for bitching and crying on the sidelines for not getting enough balls his way when they were blowing someone out earlier this year?

Looks like a guy just going through the emotions of it all. Even the person who tweeted it gave Wentz props and said wasn’t speculating on anything. You seem to be looking for what you want to see not taking everything in account here.

Reminds me of one of the St Joes prep players my cousin helps coaches. He went out after the 2nd game of year season ending injury. They won the title that year for state and he was in a similar state of emotions. It’s an emotional roller coaster for an athlete to miss time with an injury. Emotional toll many fans don’t understand. Yeah we might hurt an ACL as fans but most are back at work in no time. We aren’t taking the physical toll of athletes. But also the mental toll. These guys are getting paid big money most of us dream of having job wise. Take away your passion because you can’t do it physically and see what happens to you mentally for a bit. Not everyone can handle that.

Either way the player was upset and happy. Happy they won upset he wasn’t out there winning with his team but the team showed him he did help. He was always helping prepare film steady and coaching up the other Recievers. He helped in other ways. It wasn’t the way he wanted but non the less it was help.

I just broke my elbow 2 months ago this sat. I’ve had thoughts about how upset I’d been had I been younger still playing sports not being able to play for months. I can only imagine what athletes go through. Many need to see a psychiatrist or someone but too proud too especially in a game where many see as very masculine and being looked down for. That’s a stigma that needs to change. IMHO being a real masculine is a guy who admits when help is needed and doesn’t try to put on a show to prove something to people.

I can’t remember the nhl goalie who started seeing one but they came out about it 2 yrs later? Why? Because they were scared of public backlash. They might entertain us and make huge money but they are still people too and should be treated like that. Shouldn’t have to live in fear seeking help. I want to see these people live long happy retirements like anyone else. Not live in fear because some overweight clown or a failed sports career media member thinks otherwise of them.

It’s been said to me for awhile Wentz concussion from Clowney was far worse then reported. I think Wentz would do wonders working with someone in the mental health area get him back on track. I don’t know if that was sought out or not. If he did good for him I don’t think any differently of the guy.

And we wonder why there’s a high suicide rates of athletes we need to get rid of the stigma as well as treating athletes like they are god Dam robots

Not at all he’s had an unhealthy hatred of Wentz for sometime now

You are seeing what you want to see. Event the dude posting it said he wouldn’t speculate on what was going on there but you jumped to conclusion right away.

Can we try not to bring politics into this please.

It’s sad when two other people who aren’t cowboys fans plus myself are agreeing with you on the video and all he has for his argument is other people on line share his side. And then throws we believe in propaganda.

Meanwhile he brings up a report for his case that was debunked by another writer plus one of the main players in the story itself. The writer who posted that has been brought up here in the past for lying, sugarcoating etc things. He’s the butt of inside jokes at the team facility. So that’s not the best take to have.
