2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (10 Viewers)

It’s perfectly consistent with their business model which prioritizes generating outrage among Philly fans.

The best way to deal with this is the same as the best way to deal with the Cowboys trolls: ignore it.
I mean I think they are just honestly catering to the largest audiences they have and that definitely starts with Cowboys fans. Those guys have been going after any media systems all year long if they are not praising their team and throwing roses at certain players' feet. They did this with the Patriots for the better part of 2 decades. They are just more about making money, generating ratings and igniting hot take convos. Its what the people want these days I guess. They are more in line with WWE style of "reporting" these days and the barstools kinda fanbase with them having McAfee and all their other loud characters. I stopped taking them seriously a long long time ago.
I stoped watching years ago especially after the dog and pony show of Lebrons decision. They deliberately ignored certain things when talking too. Colin Cowherd talked about division between Bill the Patriots and Brody and ESPN acted like everything was alright. During deflategate they seemed to try and figure out “how the hell cab we defend this” and then the Donaghey nba investigation it was like let’s all just **** on the ref and defend stern in this.

ESPN use to be good now they are like the amateur blog hour.

Some random thoughts.
  • I don't understand the luck talk. Unless the ball is taking weird bounces or deflections, it isn't luck. KC as a team is leading the league (or close to it) in dropped passes. It's who they are this year. When the other team plays poorly, Eagles are lucky. Eagles play poorly and they deserve to die in a fire? Very weird take.
  • That being said, after 10 games everyone needs to stop waiting for the Eagles to play a complete game. Players, fans, keep saying it's going to happen like it's inevitable. Maybe this is what they are, a bit of a sloppy mess, but finding ways to win.
  • Sloppy play takes me to coaching. OC feels like he's hitting the random button in Madden sometimes. No flow, nothing setting up future plays. Generally baffling decisions. My "favorite" last night was after a failed WR screen to the left, he tries a failed WR screen to the right. Maddening. The go ahead pass to Smith was an audible by Hurts, so what is Johnson bringing to the table?
  • Desai is a better DC than Gannon, but that's a low bar and doesn't mean Desai is actually good. Still hate this style of defense, but we're stuck with it for now and at least dude makes adjustments and tries some different things. He's done more with less.
  • Been a little disappointed with the oline this year, but that's because my expectations are so ridiculously high. Lane now just looks great instead of his usual best lineman in the game. I wonder how much longer he and Kelce will play. I'm sure Kelce would have retired if they won last year. Those are big shoes to fill. We've been so spoiled for so long and I don't want it to end!
  • Hurts is legit. To say otherwise is being a hater, nothing else. He isn't perfect, no QB is. Did you see the errant throws Mahomes had last night? But how can you watch this guy play and not be thrilled he's on your team? Does he still have room for improvement? Yup. Is he still very young and can possibly improve? Also, yup.
  • As frustrating as they've been to watch at times, they still have the best record in football. Ugly wins beat pretty losses every time, so enjoy the ride!

I don’t mind hurts at QB I just think our fanbase severely overrates him a lot . I also can’t stand his little quotes and sayings. You say we need to do better as a team but I don’t see it. Actions for me speak louder. I don’t give a **** about motivational quotes. I care more about Super Bowl trophies.

Good guy teammates seem to like him but man stop with the dam quotes. Just say I wasn’t my best today and that can’t happen for us to reach our goals and be done with it. Motivational quotes are used for teams like the dam Giants who suck or bears not us. At this point his standards are well above his capabilities f that he’s set himself up if not reaching them it looks like it was a failure. His pr team really needs to get him to stop with these. I will say the ladies seem to like the quotes though

He’s also not my type of QB play I want. I’d prefer the Herbert’s, prime Rodgers, Big Ben’s of the world Mahomes and our a similar style to McNabb. Nothing wrong with that. Randall Cunningham is my favorite QB all time but I understabd he’s not the type who’s gonna win ya a SB either if you are looking for a franchise QB not a quick over the hump.

The Super Bowl rematch between the Chiefs and Eagles averaged 28.9 million viewers on Monday Night Football.

That makes it the most-watched MNF game in over 25 years and easily the most-watched NFL game this season.
And somebody in the game thread says people would tune out if these two teams ended up in the Super Bowl again.
So far this season, the 3 most watched games are all Eagles games.
Most are watching to hope we lose. That’s what happened in the nba with Lebron and his teams. Most watched playoff team but most were watching to hope to see him lose

I mean, all I hear from non Eagles fans and haters about the Super Bowl is something like "Jalen Hurts fumbled away the Super Bowl!! Haha what a choker" so we can go on all day long about this, but yeah, also luck that Hurts had an unforced error with literally NO ONE touching him and they return the fumble for a touchdown and as well as Quez dropping a pass that almost certainly would have altered the outcome of the game as well.

But that is football. Its an odd shaped ball and there is actual real weather conditions to deal with as well as the human element of players/coaches and refs.

What is NOT luck is the decision of the Chiefs to go into the season as defending Super Bowl champs with arguably the worst or at min a bottom 3 WR corps. That is just poor planning.
i should have used the Hurts play as well 🤦‍♂️

The last part can be both as well. It was poor planning for sure (outside of Kelce’s drops) but at the same time even a poor player like MVS (or any pro) catches that ball more times than not.

I think the main issue is that people want all wins to be “pure” sometimes luck is needed. ****, in a sense we were lucky Wentz got hurt! It just is what it is.
I just don’t want to hope for the opposing team to **** themselves in the foot while we play poorly all game and just squeeze one out like we spent 10 minutes trying to pinch out a loaf on Mr Crapper.

Like I said the talent on our team the way we’ve played this year, if we were another team with lesser talent we’d have probably 4 or even 5 more loses.

I don't understand the luck talk.

It’s really not that hard to understand or accept if you’re watching the games. I’m a huge fan but I’m not blind.

You can enjoy the wins, be happy all while acknowledging we’ve dodged some bullets. It’s ok to do both. You’re not locked into one or the other.

It’s nice we are winning games while down 10 every week. It’s nice we are winning while the OC looks like crap. It’s nice when WR’s are running free and dropping passes for huge gains. Thinking we are willing these mistakes by the other team, influencing it in any way or that it’s sustainable is downright foolish.
honestly the fact they are not playing to their potential and still winning speaks volumes in terms of how good this team really is.

dont complain. when the chips are down the team seems to be money. as compared to some teams who are great against poor teams and then crumble when the other team gives some fight.

its a marathon.... not a sprint. They will get this cleaned up.

I'm not an eagles fan but I know good when I see it.

Last post but got in touch with a source today. Asked about the offenses issues and gave a few examples. I also asked if Hurts seemingly looked slow all year maybe the knee has been an issue much longer than the team and him says. Asked if there was any division among the Off players and OC and they are running less RPO and PA.

I went to the defensive side of things and said maybe they miss CJGJ more than they admit. Carter has been a godsend and I could see one of Bradberry/slay gone after the year. Mentioned how I’m sure Maddox going down early didn’t help matters and it seems Howie is aware the Secondary needs to get younger.

I’ll update when they respond back.

I know your hate of Hurts has been discussed ad nauseam. But omg you are such a weirdo about him. Did him replacing Wentz bother you that much? I say this as someone who was against that decision initially.

He is a top 5 QB in the league and we are lucky as hell to have him. And you hate him, it’s just weirdo behavior from who I assume is a long time eagles fan.

Lastly, Hurts is better than McNabb could have ever wished to be. And McNabb is why I’m an eagles fan. He’s also better Herbert.

Time will tell if Hurts is in the company of Rogers and Big Ben, but he is well on his way.

I used to think this, but even when you don't engage with him he will write Anti-Hurts novels. It's wild. Not even one "hey he played good" or "ok that was a nice throw" the entire season

I think I know what it’s all about. There is a certain subset that will forever talk about Wentz and always criticize Hurts. He’s not the only one just maybe the only one here. We know what that agenda is about with those guys.

I’ll be interested to see how he thinks Jalen should not be MVP, should he win it.

When hurts wins us a superbowl that might shut that up. But I doubt it

It's a pathology. By engaging with him on it, we are enabling it.

But I doubt it
haha no chance. It will be "wow that defense of theirs blew it"

But my issue is people acting like Hurts can do no wrong. It’s everyone else’s but his fault.
Are you not reading the same threads I am? There's been plenty of "Hurts needs to play better" , "something is wrong with Hurts" , etc all season from Eagles fans on these boards.

It seems like you're acting like "Hurts can do no right" tho, do you agree? I mean I'm sure you agree that Hurts has played good at times, why is that so difficult to acknowledge? A simple "wow that was a nice throw by Hurts" seems impossible, where as almost everyone in here isn't afraid to say "wow that was a bad throw by Hurts".

He’s got you on ignore. Anyone with a good argument to his rants and rasslin novels gets put on ignore.😂

Anyone questioning hurts either is blind or has an agenda
I dont agree with that.
As a professional player you have to prove yourself every day. Thats what being a pro means.
I think hes fine but I did see a couple of seriously inaccurate throws in the last game and I'm wondering if the injury messed with his mechanics a bit.

not a criticism of the player, but these things do happen and players get into bad habits and have to periodically refine their technique to stay on top of their game. This is also part of being a pro.

the questioning part is healthy if you take it the right way. I'm not a professional coach but I used to play the QB at a lower level so I do have some understanding of what I'm referring to even if I didnt play at a high level.

at any level that you play, people will always question you as a player whether you are good enough. Thats part of the process when you are an athlete.

no need to take it personally

You don't get it. He doesn't think Hurts should be the eagles qb. Criticism is fine. He doesn't even give him a chance.

Many of us have pointed out the mistakes Hurts has made this year and noted that he hasn’t looked as good as he did last year. But we have also given him credit and acknowledged he is among the best QBs in the league. The difference with the troll is that he refuses to give Hurts credit for anything, even when it’s blindingly obvious that it is deserved.

fair enough.
But there are those people too.
Look at Brady. even at the peak of his game there were some who would refuse to give him credit for anything. Some people are just like that. Maybe he hates the team or for one reason or another hates the player. That problem is with him. nothing we can say or do will likely change the guys mind. its even possible that hes just trolling you guys for fun. Wants to see how many of you he can get upset.

no point getting angry about it. post your opinion as you always do if you feel the need. but no point getting into a fight. probably a waste of your time. (which I assume is valuable)

That lions loss help us alot. Thanks packers
It makes a 2 seed highly unlikely, but does little to decide 1 vs 5 seed unfortunately.
Not sure this Dallas team is all that beatable in Dallas this year. We need them to play in the wildcard round on the road.

And since winning in Dallas will be a tall task, it makes the Buffalo and SF games all that more important. Need them both to be safe, but MUST win at least one of them.

Not sure this Dallas team is all that beatable in Dallas this year.
Dallas hasn’t played anyone at home yet

Dallas is so much better at home though. Like 2 tds better than normal. Pretty crazy
Yeah
Funny thing is that I feel like Dallas is the only team I'm not sure Eagles can beat on the road. Winning the division is huge. Eagles could go 14-3....as a 2 or 3 seed I'd love their chances...but 14-3 as the 5 seed? No sir....not confident at all playing in Texas.

There’s time to praise them but I don’t know if last night was a good example.

Was Desai’s adjustment to let receivers run free and have them realize they were so open that they became distracted, and dropped the ball?

The 10 games this season are a bigger sample, though. And it shows the adjustment success is real. They have held 3 teams scoreless in the 2nd half (KC, LAR, and “high-powered offense” MIA) and their average points allowed per drive drops by more than 40% in the 2nd half (2.55 to 1.51), so it’s been a legit trait of the defense, not just luck from dropped KC passes.

Guys, I hate to break it to you. But I just realized that you're going to have to lose at least 1 of the next 5 games. My Week 17 championship hopes depend heavily on Hurts and Brown, and if you're sitting at 14-1 (and if DET gets one more loss by then), you'll have the #1 seed locked up before the week 17 game.

I can't have that, and I won't allow it. Pass the word on to Howie, please, and again sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I just don’t see hurts having that it factor to win a SB. Watching him play he looks like another QB who’s gonna put up very good regular season games but doesn’t have it to win the big one. Good player but I think he’s gonna be another stats guy.

Brady doesn’t get credit for the numerious cheating scandals in NE. Rodger did nothing to change rules to persuade it either because NE owner Rober Kraft was one of the biggest reasons he had his job. Tom’s last eb was brought to you by the nfl. Cheifs were being held all game the Wars OL pant tangly and nothing was called. Bill Brady Kraft and the patriots are a black eye on the nfl

Also if it wasn’t that bad why did Rodger have the tapes destroyed? Obviously there was more damming info and evidence on those tapes then was let on. Rodger knew he was on the hot seat because as quick as Kraft got him his job he could take away just as quick. Look at NE now when they can’t cheat

The problem with this thread and a lot of eagles fans is blind loyalty to the player. It’s never hurts fault. Hurts bad a questionable fumble that led to the momentum change in the SB and all anyone wanted to talk about is how the defebse lost lost the game. The offense scored 11 pts in the 2nd half to a team that is know. For being a 2nd half team. Go look at my post back then in the team thread and I talked about our 2nd half issues all year. Most blindly followed the well we were u big. We went 7 straight qtrs without scoring in the 2nd half at one point and it was thankfully to some bad offenses and weren’t even up that big. The one game was the Jags when it poured though. It came back a d bit us. Yeah the defense played it part and scored X pts we should win. I felt like I was listening to a recorded madden because it’s something in the video game in a high scoring game where when you win someone thing similar is said. In today’s nfl you need to keep scoring as rules favor the offenses.

Then we had the NYJ game this year. To credit some in this thread a few agreed hurts played a terrible game but I go elsewhere and everyone is blaming everyone else besides hurts.

I’ve voiced legit issues on hurts this year especially when he does do RPOs he’s not making the right read and he looks much slower than last year. Apparently that makes me a hater. This thread likes rainbows and roses blown up the teams *** constantly.

Also maybe this is part of it but a few here on 76ers fans and haven’t liked or agreed with my criticism of the team in the nba thread. I’m not a 76ers fan either. To be fair to me people who aren’t always on my side have agreed with my take on the team/fans/player ownership etc of the 76ers so I’m positive one or two are pretty salty about that. @CowboyFan that answers the question you asked in the game thread that got locked. I didn’t respond here the other day but decided to today since I’ve been question and some here don’t frequent some other threads all the time. As well as some other takes

The funny thing is my team loyalty is questioned in this thread constantly. I’m might be one of the biggest fans here. If I had the money I’d be buying a house with everything eagles in my basement, attending almost every home and away game I could. I was going to games at 2 yrs old. My family has had season tickets since 61 and at least one member of our family has represented at every title game/SB in the teams history. My grandfather was in the endzone of the 1960 title game. The SB was pretty personably to me like a lot of others but with a little more personable . My grandfather died before he got to see a SB, in fact the same day Roy Halladay threw his playoff no hitter for the Phillies. My coworkers son who I went to schooo with at a rival school and we played against one another in HS was in on Doug’s coaching staff when they won. He recently lost his brother that summer as well and his brother was a superfan.

Honestly and speaking of the 76ers this whole thing with Hurts reminds me of years ago when 76ers fans questioned the loyalty of their own fans who criticized Allen Iverson. Hurts is a much better person first off but a lot of people with fair criticism of AI like those or Hurts got bombarded. It’s like they took it personally.

I mostly blame sports radio in this town for the sediment a lot have against their fellow fan. And this is just a view but the world is so divided in general over the last 8 yrs or so people seem to just attack one another for having a difference of opinion rather then respectfully disagree with one another and having a debate without personable attacks.

It's a pathology. By engaging with him on it, we are enabling it.

And the Hurts allegiance doesn’t have an agenda. You’re somewhat right on Wentz but not even my issue. My issue is the blind loyalty many have to hurts and feel any sort of criticism is unwarranted. I’ve seen hurts fans bring in the race card to the discussion before. Actually saw it the other day. Thankfully numerious people called the person out on the accusation to another poster but that’s how out of hand it gets.

I’ve literally read tweets post from fans on social media saying they hope hurts does great because they hated Wentz or insinuating certain things if people for not liking hurts.

What’s the agenda?

I hope you’re not going where I think you’re going..?
Oh he’s going there and him and another poster has even insinuated before on that with me it’s childish and just shows they don’t want to debate. Deamon has had an issue with me for the last 4 or so yrs for some reason only reason I’m replying to the post was because your comment had me curious and I literally just put a post above this of similar about Hurts fans doing this to people. (I edited a name out of a poster here as I may have them confused with another).

I’ve kept him on ignore for awhile but every now and again posters PM about stuff he says on here. I will not tolerate someone trying to infere that about me no matter what. He acts like a child whenever he doesn’t get his way. And he Sean’s jealous everyone’s posting about me. Now with that post he now has the attention on him
