Speaking of Willard, Maryland pulling all their starters in a 16 point game with 2:30 remaining was an interesting decision.

Teams have come back from that before.
 
Flagg-Knueppel lobs to Maluach are unstoppable. Maluach covers so much ground on D. Does an awesome job for a guy his size working off those screens on the perimeter

Arizona kept it close for a half with Maluach in foul trouble but Duke never seems to be in any sort of trouble.
 
I feel like Calapari is going to sink a lot of my brackets right now, but at least I get to listen to the sweet sounds of Kevin Harlan to do it.

That my alma mater absolutely smacked these Razorbacks somehow late in the season really vexes me.
 
That is total BS. WTF? Same exact play reffed differently via official review minutes apart. Via official review, so not talking real-time.

And huge impact. Arizona was down 9. Would have been 2 free throws and the ball.

This is a great example of why people are so critical of college basketball officiating.
 
Those are not close to the same play.

The Arizona player pulled the Duke player away from where he was trying to go.

When the Arizona kid was pulled down his momentum was already going that way and trying to force his way through a screen.

The only thing in common was an arm pull.

ETA: not to mention the missed forearm shiver in Flagg's back on the rebound that allowed Arizona a 3-pt play that shouldn't have happened.

The other was a defender going around a screen.

Two plays wildly different.

Did one guy hook and hold another guy and pull him to the ground in each instance? Yes.

Was there a possibility of injury in each instance, which is the reason it is supposed to be flagrant? Yes.

Great D down low in the post by Maluach with 4 fouls.

Good luck to anyone trying to beat this Duke frontline. Going to take foul trouble or just outrunning/outscoring Duke up/down the court to beat them IMO. These 2 guys just swallow up the paint.
 
No matter how this ends, you really have to respect what Calipari has done with the Hogs. Especially considering how he built a roster from scratch.

I thought he was more of a creature of Kentucky, clearly not.

He's just flat-out lying when he says he hasn't talked to his wife or agent. He said it again last night in his post-game remarks.

That said, I don't think all of this stuff cost them the game last night like a lot of Terps fans do. Florida is just a better team than Maryland. They ran the Terps out of gas. Plus, the Gators outrebounded them by 22. They only reason MD was in the game in the first half was because Florida kept turning the ball over.
 
I saw a good comment on reddit about the Arkansas game.

"The first 36 minutes of that game are why Arkansas hired him. The last 4 mins + OT are why Kentucky ran him out of town."

Prevent offense, dribbling around aimlessly too early instead of running their offense that had gotten them the lead, not calling a timeout to draw up a play on the last possession, etc.

Except he wasn’t fired. They would have been stupid to fire him, IMO. He’s a sleazebag but with this NIL stuff he can be mostly legit. I don’t think he’s a great X’s and O’s coach so I get the gist of the comment.
 
Really hoping the Boilers can keep this a close game tonight. It doesn't look good on paper. Purdue can be prone to turnovers and Houston is the best at creating them. They are going to need a full 40 minute game from everyone to have a chance.

Just keep it to single digits going into half and then see what happens down the stretch!

Far be it from me to dispute the wisdom of reddit, but watching the game I think Arkansas got tripped up by their own success. They were unusually proficient at hitting 3s for most of the game, but then regression set in and they ignored it. Despite bricking 3 after 3, they kept at it. The worst was late in the game where they ran the clock down, threw up another brick 3 and were fortunate to get the rebound. What did the rebounder do? Run clock? As if. He immediately launched another ill advised 3.

I suppose you can put that on coaching, but these players are professionals (now) and should know better.

I can't argue with the no timeout call though. That's on Calipari.

Seems likely the Big Ten is getting smoked this round. Most likely just one team left after tonight or maybe none.
 
My fear as a Michigan State fan is, MSU loses at 7pm and Michigan wins at 9pm..

My nightmare is, they both win and Michigan beats them on Sunday.

My Freddy Krueger nightmare is, Michigan wins the whole damn thing.

My dream is they both win and MSU beats them head to head a third time this year :)
