2024-25 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the team does” sad Heat fan says to giant pile of cocaine (37 Viewers)

If I was the Cavs coach I would instruct my team to take shot clock violations the rest of the game for two reasons.

A. Showing mercy to the Heat

B. Maybe embarrass the NBA enough into doing away with conferences and hopefully make some rules to help with tanking.

The Hawks, Bulls, Mavs, Kings, all had better records and I would argue that the Raptors, Blazers, and Suns would have put up more effort.

C. Maybe don't do like two months of playoffs and nix the stupid play-in thing.

I like the play in, but it needs some caveats. Maybe a minimum win requirement or something.

Can these refs assess Draymond a lifetime ban?
That ain't on the refs. That's on Silver. No reason this guy should've still been playing 5 years ago let alone now.
Now do Dillon Brooks
Again, guys, I solved it - give Green and Brooks these things and let them go play in a corner somewhere.

Both these teams could have beat the Heat at home. Bulls lost by 19. I'm fine with a restructure to let teams with winning records in over losing records but none of these teams had winning records and two failed to get the job done head to head so hard to care which one snuck in and got smashed.

Ugh, Rockets. They had a chances and just didn't finish it.

Butler is a closer. 5 FT's to take the lead. That stupid touch foul on the 3 by Brooks cost Houston this game. I think it is a weak foul, but there was no reason to touch him. Butler wasn't going to make that three.

Then the rebound after Sengun's miss and knocking down the next 2 FT's to finish it.

Sportscenter just showed an interesting stat right now. This was the first time ever the Cavs had a playoff series sweep without LeBron on the roster.

For some reason I always thought the Mark Price/Brad Daugherty teams were better than they were. That team never really did much other than lose to MJ's Bulls with that first buzzer beater on Craig Ehlo.

ETA: they did make the ECF in 92-93 where they were swept by the Bulls.

Ty Jerome will be an UFA. How much money will he make? He deserves more than the $14.1 million max the Cavs can pay him. Although few teams will have cap space.
Don't tease me into thinking we can get him back. That's just cruel.
Well, I guess the first question is how much of a luxury tax bill ownership is willing to pay. Maybe that depends on how well the playoffs go? I don’t know.

I’m seeing different numbers on the internet now (ugh) but some recent articles like this one are saying the Cavs can give a contract to him starting at $14.3 million. Full mid-level exception is projected at $14.1 million and only a few teams are expected to be able to have the cap space for more than that. Cavs may actually give him the highest offer and I’m sure he’d prefer to be back.

Again.

Free throws, Houston

Gilbert has shown the ability and interest to spend on a good team.

Such a weak call. Dudes getting mauled all game. Yet a gentle hand on the guy while shooting is a foul. Weak

Touch fouls on jump shots have been a POE for like 20 years.
Yup. It is a thing which is why I thought Brooks was so stupid to do it. Yeah it is "weak" but the jump shooter in the air has a lot of protections because of their vulnerability (not unlike a QB in the pocket for the NFL). The rules seem excessive, but it's a response to injury concerns and trying to help offenses and make the game more high scoring.

The author mentions the Pistons. I think he would fit in well there although maybe they have their eyes on someone else.
This is the one situation where I think Ty's experience in Cleveland may play in our favor. While he was injured for almost all of it, he saw what the team was like first hand with JB vs now. Just to clarify, as I eluded to at the beginning of the Knicks series, JB has his place in this league. It's just not with a team that's ready to get over the hump, his approach holds them back.
