2024-25 NBA Thread: Thunder starting to question having 140 pound guy playing in post in Finals (51 Viewers)

Porzingis underwent leg surgery and is expected to be out 5-6 months. If it turns out to be 6 months, that's approximately the first 30 games of the season.
Dude, we're tired of talking about Boston.

Is there anything dumber in the world of sports than when reporters say 'so and so had successful surgery'? Has there EVER been a report of unsuccessful surgery on any athlete?

Player X is in the best shape of their life.

Furphy is a quality 2nd round pick for the Spurs. Still didn't like them trading out of the 8th spot but this is a nice consolation

edit: looks like they traded him to Indy which is good value for the Pacers

We won 22 games last year. I think it's safe to say, we're good.

Seriously, they traded Furphy (35th pick) for Nunez (36th pick) and some cash. I guess the owner's son gets a Vegas weekend out of the deal, Maybe a trade is in the works to make it all make sense, but I doubt it. I think the most obvious conclusion to draw here is that PATFO (Pop and the front office) is committed to providing playing time to Maliki Branham and Blake Wesley to see if they can pan out; that, and poverty. Also, the Spurs have at least two first round picks in next year's draft too, plus CHA 1st (lotto protected) and Chicago's 1st (top-10 protected). Can't draft'em all, I suppose. Still, I'm hating it today,

Nice to see my fellow UCSB alum Ajay Mitchell get drafted to a nice, up-and-coming program like the Thunder. He'll be a nice change-of-pace type player behind SGA. Mitchell had a great NBA combine and shot up the boards... wasn't sure he'd be drafted without that combine.

I am usually on the players side, but this don't draft me so I can sign where I want should be stopped.
How do you propose doing that?

Depends on where it is coming from.

Austin Reaves I would have made him go to Detroit and if he refused he would be suspended for a year after he went to another team and signed.

In Bronny's case where they are announcing it I am going to suspend him a year as well and make the Lakers pay a fine and forfeit a pick.

Seems like a lot of work.

Why not just snap your fingers, and they both die instantaneously

Include Miles Bridges and deal.

He's going to get taken at 2.25

But I don't think too many teams are upset about it. He's not good enough to go above that, and they've made it pretty clear that it won't lure Lebron to their team.

The whole league is. Have you seen the salary cap?

If it was just him I wouldn't care, but Reaves did it and I am sure there are others.

I
Agent Rich Paul is calling teams and telling them NOT to take Bronny James. Or he'll go play in Australia. 😆

I would buy a second round pick just to test that theory.
No you wouldn’t. Klutch has a ton of talent. If you ever want to sign one of them again you gotta play ball.

Since the Pistons won't ever have that problem I don't care!

Although I might change my mind because there are rumors the Pistons might go after Miles Bridges, so I might need a new team.

Adrian Wojnarowski doesn’t want NBA fans to call Bronny James going to the Lakers 'nepotism'.

“I don’t want to hear these charges—people talking about nepotism. The NBA is full of nepotism: the ownership level, front offices, coaching. I don’t want to hear it all of a sudden because Bronny James’ father plays for the Lakers. It is rampant in this league.”

That power may wane when lebron retires.
I highly doubt Klutch is going away.

God I hate when they make the player wear the hat of the team that 'drafted him' even though the trade has already gone through.

Can't someone get that man a Hawks hat? He's gotta stand there in the biggest moment of his life in the hat of a team he knows he isn't even going to.
Why is this still happening? The NFL figured out how to work in draft pick trades, why can't the NBA?

lol he basically said "this is nepotism, but this is common so it's cool"

The "everyone did steroids back then!" argument.

Lots of others. It happens ALL the time. There were probably plenty just this year. Only one was LeBron’s son though so it drove lots of discussion.

A big Part of 2nd round picking now is teams negotiating with the players whether they will take a two-way deal or not. Spurs were doing this with players as early as the 35th pick this year and plenty of player agents do these negotiations for their clients , but Klutch / LeBron rubs a lot of people the wrong way so it becomes big news.

Great pick by Philly
Adem Bona falling to the Sixers at #41 is very nice. He has a ridiculous motor, can block shots and rebound, and (most importantly for Philly) he'll understand his role as Embiid's backup from day 1.

With the number of games Joel misses, being able to play some minutes is huge. Especially in the road game at Denver.
I was hoping the Lakers would have tried to buy a pick in the late 30s to get Bona (or Djurisic). Seems like 2nd rounders are harder to get these days.

I read it more like, nepotism is common and has been happening all along, so it's a bit weak to be complaining about it just in this particular case. I'm not saying I agree with him.

Pretty crazy to have a father son duo in the NBA, regardless of how you feel about how it happened.

I’m happy for Bronny given where he was just six months ago health-wise. The pressure will be crazy but it’ll be fun to watch.
He got drafted appropriately and Lebron has more than earned the right to pull some strings and get his kid picked at the end of the draft. The pushback that I’ve seen and participated in was against the idea that he’s a first round talent and that if you disagreed you were some sort of Bronny hater.
