2024-25 NBA Thread: Jimmy Butler ready to take Wolves starters out with a bunch of backups again (135 Viewers)

So happy for Michael Cooper making the hall of fame tonight. One of my all-time favorite Laker players.
Undeserved

Doesn't seem HOF worthy to me either. Never made an All Star team and always seemed like the 5 or 6th best player on that squad. Nice 3 and D guy but that's about it.
Always a huge defensive annoyance to Bird and the Celtics = HOF in my book. Plus those super-long socks. 😍

Also, getting a DPOY and 8x all-defense awards as a sixth man is pretty crazy.

I’d call him the 3rd (pre-worthy) or 4th most impactful player on the 80s Lakers.

With the exception of his rookie year (3 game sample size,) PER was below 15 every season

The socks were pretty cool  :style:

The voting for some of these things was pretty suspect. The year Cooper won DPOY, Olajuwon averaged 3.4 blocks, 1.9 steals and 11.4 rebounds per game and the Rockets were 3rd in the league in defensive rating and points allowed. He didn’t get any DPOY votes, but T.R. Dunn, Bill Hanzlik and Doc Rivers did.

Cooper kinda feels like Harold Baines in the baseball hall. Neither guy should be in, but they were both good players and likeable people so good for them.

Yeah if I took off my Lakers purple and gold colored glasses, I don’t think he should be in the HOF. I’m mainly happy he made it since he was one of my favorite players.

Hall of Pretty Good player on a great team.

The Suns are going to destroy their season win total of 47.5 this year...take it to the bank bromigos.
I don't know about destroy.

I think their bench is improved and their offense a bit, but they've taken a step back defensively and both Durant and Beal are older and tend to miss a lot of games.

Jalen mcdaniels dumped to the spurs who are waiving him. Should have been a valuable player but never could figure it out and so many teams have soured on him

How did they take a step back defensively?
They are starting Tyus Jones instead of Grayson Allen who is smaller and a worse defender. That's next to the defensively anemic Bradley Beal.

Both Tyus and Allen are terrible defenders. I guess maybe they got a little worse but if anything it is like a teeny baby step

Paul George hyperextended his left knee tonight. Because of course he did
Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looks. It looks pretty bad.

JFC. Why play these guys in pre-season.

This is the time of year we want to see guys like Bronny shoot 9% from the field . . . .

These guys play basketball. It's what they do. It's what they want to do. You can't get into game shape without playing games. Also there are like 500 new players on the Sixers and both PG and Embiid won't be playing back to backs so they need time to get used to their new teammates

Is he up to 9%?

Hartenstein out 5-6 weeks minimum. Bummer for Thunder fans, we were all excited to see how Daigneault managed the lineups, but hopefully it’s not a big deal long-term

You guys/gals have any good fantasy basketball resources? I tend to just Google "fantasy basketball rankings" and/or use Yahoo!'s draft rankings while in my draft, but I could use some deeper dives. I always start the season off well but at some point start to go over my trajectory for max games played and then end up losing my footing towards the end of the season. So a tool whereby I can figure out if a guy should be started/sat for a particular matchup would be awesome.

I pretty much just know everything in my head, so I can't help you.

Hollinger is predicting that a 50 loss team will make the play in tournament in the East :oldunsure:
Seems plausible. Charlotte, Detroit, Washington and Brooklyn will definitely have 50 losses. Toronto has a decent starting 5, but very little depth, so they could easily get derailed with some bad injury luck. And I think Chicago can very easily have 50 losses with their terrible defense unless somehow giddey and lavine can juice the offense to get to like 35 wins. So 6 legit contenders for 50 losses.

Yea Simmons had his over under pod this week and those 3 bozos made all their picks and then at the end realized one of the multiple 50 loss teams that they predicted had to make it as the 10 seed. Entertaining as always.

I am not sure if 50 losses for the 10 seed has happened (it probably has) but looking back over the past decade or so it has been close.

2015-2016 Sacramento and Denver tied for the 10th seed with 49 losses
2016-2017 New Orleans had 48 losses
2021-2022 San Antonio had 48 losses

Bronny played allright in what was otherwise a horrific game for the Lakers (they sat 8 of their first 9 rotation guys, so to be expected).

I hope they find a way to retain Ollivari. He's shown more this preseason than I've seen in a year plus from guys like Hood-Schifino and Max Lewis. Pelinka has really screwed up this roster giving out guaranteed deals to people who aren't going to amount to anything in the NBA.

They could just cut those ****ty players and sign replacements but in addition to having one of the worst GMs, they also have one of the worst owners.
