2024-25 NBA Thread: Steve Kerr was right all along (30 Viewers)

Draymond shooting 3s late in the 4th quarter is not a good look.
why?

Because it is Draymond shooting
Butler got him the ball with less than a second on the shot clock. He can shoot left handed and it's still not a bad shot

It's still a bad shot

Not Draymond's game
So you take the shot clock violation over the shot attempt?

Just a reminder that NBA players et al voted Tyrese Haliburton as the most overrated player in the league. Morons.

Dude just asked Cleveland what his taint smells like.
As a Pacers fan, I thought the Cavs did a decent job on Haliburton. He dribbled the ball less than he has in a long time and they made him work just to catch it constantly. He has another gear in him and he will need to find it for them to win the series. I'm still excited though. Shooting variance probably decided game 1, but there was a chance going in that "one team is signicantly better than the other" would decide game 1 and that definitely did not look like the case.

There's a reason Draymond was open.

The defense knows, too

That's fair

The Pistons home court is right next to Greektown. If Giannis does get traded this can't just be a coincidence.
I'm sure Beef Stew, Ivey, whatever other crap the Pistons can offer, gets it done 💰

We can't offer Heat culture, playing along side Bradley Beal, Dillon Brooks or Draymond Green and we don't have an owner like Dolan. BUT... if Giannis does get moved hopefully the Pistons can do something.

Great coaching job by Kerr

Master class last night. Tibs needs to study that film on when to call timeouts.
That was probably the first Warriors game I watched all season where Kerr didn't wait too long to call timeouts.

Two other items in his favor:
  • I didn't understand why Hield started, especially given that they looked bad with him starting the previous two days. That obviously worked out well
  • While I can criticize him playing Kuminga since they simply haven't looked good with Kuminga on the floor lately, in his defense he was quick to bench him when he played badly

Pistons have zero shot at Giannis. If they make a splash soon, it'll be in FA. Great position to do so in the future

Great improvement this season and maximized their complimentary players but no one with significant trade value outside Cade. Duren/Ivey are RFA after this season.

2 must watch series in the west.
2 snoozefests in the east.

Yeah, IND/CLE is interesting on a bball perspective, but both teams kinda bore me. Not much for personalities, and I don't see a world beater megastar on either team.
...good.

Hunter and Mobley now also questionable for game 2.

Not good.

Way to go out on limb. You are wrong though. If the Pistons make a splashy move it is a trade. Free agents don't come to Detroit and they don't have cap space.

We don't have assets like the Rockets or OKC, but we have all our 1st after this draft and some good young players to offer.

It really helps that one of their All-Stars is injured. Garland is a major piece in that team's success.

If Giannis moves this summer it will be because he wants to move, not the Bucks' decision. If that happens, the speculation is that he'd ask to be traded to a team where he can win a championship. He's said many times he wants to win another one. Of course the trade comp has to work for the Bucks. I doubt they would follow the Nico school of trading a superstar as it seems smarter to be open about it and encourage a bidding war.

Best coach in the league now that Pop has retired.

Might be the best coach in all of sports currently. What active coach has more championships as a player and a coach right now?

Hell he might be the greatest human being alive right now. Maybe 2nd behind Dolly Parton.
He's behind Steph Curry as the greatest human being (his own words during Paris Olympics as heard on Netflix's Court of Gold).

Kerr is great but I don't think he's the best. Off the top of my head I'd take:

Andy Reid
Dawn Staley
Gino Auriemma
Sean McVay

I think there's even an argument within the NBA for Spoelstra. Others deserving consideration are Kirby Smart, Becky Hammon, and maybe Dave Roberts.

He's trying to bait me.

No one actually believes Kerr is a great coach. C'mon, man, get real.

He has 4 rings as a coach and 5 as a player.

Tell me how many the others have.

Oh, and forgot he coached the US team to a Gold Medal in the Olympics.

Give me a better resume.

What wat? Kerr has 4 rings as a head coach. And a gold medal (he doesn't get one but he coached the US team brilliantly to get one).

He earned 5 as a player.

Reid has 3.
McVay has 1 (and will probably never win another).

Gino and Dawn are nice ideas but c'mon.....the drop off from elite women's college basketball to the rest is gargantuan and you know it.

I have twice as many rings in my jewelery box.

Hard to take college coaches as the best ever. The team they represent usually gives them a huge advantage and is usually why when/if they go to the pros they don't do as well.

Ranking the teams the rest of the way.

OKC - 1st
BOS - 2nd
Minn - 3rd
CLE - 4th
DEN - 5th
INDY 6th
GS - 7th
NY - 8th

I think OKC is in a class by themselves, I think the Celtics are second right now, third through fifth is interchangeable. I would move the Cavs up to the Celtics if/when I see Garland play and be at least 90 percent healthy. I think the Pacers are close to that third tier and are all by themselves in the fourth tier. Warriors and Knicks seem like the worst teams left.

I think you're talking best coaches in US sports rather than "best coach in all of sports currently". Because Pep, Carlo, Berhalter ...

Friendly reminder to all you critics ripping my five second off the top of my head list that I was the FFA greatest sports draft champion. :coffee:
