2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (3 Viewers)

Maybe we can start a thread devoted entirely to Michigan cheating and leave this thread for actual football content?
What games are you looking forward to this weekend as a fan? As a bettor?

GM will for sure be focused on the nail biter that is Oregon vs Idaho.

As for me, I’m looking forward to USC/LSU, Georgia/Clemson and Notre Dame/A&M.

Any Ohio State fans in here? Talk about the lamest non-conference schedule ever for an “elite” program.

As a fan, I'm all geeked up for the Oregon game vs......Idaho. I know, I know but it's LIVE college football with the whole Malaise crew* going to the game. It's my wife's birthday and though I probably would have done better to get her a vacuum cleaner or new pair of grilling tongs, she's excited to spend the day with the fam down in Eugene together. Nothing beats live college football. Nothing.

As far as other games, I think the Sunday game between LSU and USC is the one I want to watch the most. That is going to have MASSIVE over reactions one way or another. And, as I wake up Saturday morning, I really like the fact that 9am will feature the Georgia/Clemson tilt. Other games I'm interested in:

A&M vs Notre Dame - If Notre Dame wins this one, they set themselves up well for a playoff run. They play a bunch of cupcakes until FSU and USC, though Georgia Tech might be up to something?
Miami vs Florida - I think Miami wins this one, but I'll be rooting against Mario Cristobal and Miami sports in general the rest of my waking life. I hope Florida wins late after Stupid Mario makes another bumbling decisions and costs his team the win.
Maryland vs Connecticut - THROW OUT THE RECORD BOOKS WHEN THESE TWO MEET!!!!111

As far as betting is concerned, the state of Oregon legalized all sports gambling with the lone exception of......college athletics. Why? BECAUSE WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN! No, really. There's ONE state senator who has all the sway here and he refuses to even entertain allowing wagers on college sports. Dumb. But, it's probably saving me from myself, so that's good.
My bookie reached out to my yesterday out of the blue telling me he loaded me up with a bunch of Free Plays. I haven't used his services in well over a year and don't plan to again. I texted him back - "Thanks, but this is how drug dealers get their customers. Best to you and yours". Turns out, giving me $2,000 a week in gambling credit is bad for my financial health. :bag:

Were I able to bet, I think I'd take Georgia and lay the 13.5, the OVER 64.5 in the LSU/USC game and a spite bet of Florida ML to stick it to Mario and his stupid face.

It is actual football content

Or would you rather we post about the giant oregon rubber duck that the coach wants to put out next to the stadium before/during/after their home games? :lmao:

Ehhhhh, I think it's yesterday's news and some of us (me) are ready to move on. Michigan Cheating fatigue set in for me months ago. It happened, they got caught, Harbaugh skirted and yet I think it had no impact on the actual games. I think they would have won without cheating, which makes the whole thing so head-spinningly stupid. And I think if you gave a Michigan fan some truth serum, they'd tell you that whatever happens to the team now was worth it for the moment of glory after decades of desolation and being Ohio State's personal hand puppet. It's not like we're going to go back in time and play 2023 all over again.

Football is here. Games are here. Michigan is still the reigning champ. Harbaugh is a cheater. Grass is green. Water is wet. That big rubber duckie is the most exciting thing to happen to the Big Ten since the invention of the forward pass (which Michigan still hasn't embraced).

I'm the world's worst gambler (which is why I don't do it anymore), but I think UGA is going to paste Clemson. Adjust your wagering accordingly (because I'm the world's worst gambler).

UCONN/MD - not much to say, as it's always a titanic tilt with national title implications. I haven't looked up game times or networks, but I'm guessing this will be the 8:00 p.m. NBC game (bumping Notre Dame/A&M to Peacock).

Everyone cheats. The rules are dumb. They got caught. I care even less now than I did when it was going on. Blech.

The Edsall Bowl, baby!

When you grow up in Indiana, home of football powers such as IU and Purdue, you don't necessarily have a college team to root for. But you can do what literally every other non-Catholic resident of Indiana does every fall Saturday -- hate-watch Notre Dame and try to will them to defeat.

Looking forward to restarting that fall tradition this weekend.

2 games pique my interest for Thursday night....

1. UNC vs MINN - Line is UNC -1.5 and could be a pretty good game for those looking for one before the weekend. What does UNC look like without Drake Maye? Is PJ Fleck going to live up to the hype he once had and stay off the hot seat?
2. North Dakota State vs Colorado - On the surface, this seems like a game the Buffs should win and win in a rout. But NDS is no slouch and could be a tough out for Deion and Co. At first, I was intrigued with what Deion did for Colorado, but after watching his team trash talk the Ducks before their game, stomp on their logos the night before and taunt the Oregon players prior to the kick-off, I'm rooting against Deion and his thin-skinned ways. Nothing would delight me more than seeing his team lose the opener.

I edited it down for you. Although, they've been so non-relevant for so long I'm not sure young folks get it.

Their schedule is pretty darn easy this year, so they could be very relevant come playoff selection time.

Oh yeah, I put an asterisk up in here and never explained why....this is almost as bad as forgetting to close a parenthetical sentence!

* My oldest son is a senior at Oregon. He hasn't been to one football game. He won't be going to this one either BUT he will join us for lunch or dinner before the game. And really, that's what got my wife to agree to this 'birthday gift' from me to her.

Unless I have just never seen it before, it looks like Fanduel now has “mythical matchups) where you bet the spread between two teams not playing each other. Like Ohio State is get 21.5 vs Michigan this weekend with an o/u of 88.5, and then you just base the outcome of the bet on how many points each team scores in their separate games. The matchups are pretty much all rivalry schools (to varying extents)

What is Clemson’s QB situation? I think UGA will be pissed for letting a chance to 3-peat slip away and they will protect their 2nd home in the dome pretty easily.

Saw this on another message board that was taken from X. Probably accurate but perhaps it’s not.

Harbaughs record before Stallions - 69-24 and after Stallions came on board - 21-1.

PPG before - 33.6 and after - 40.5

Opponents PPG before - 17.8 and after - 12.4

Point differential before - +15.8 and after - +28.1

Harbaugh was almost fired and took a massive pay cut to stay and then suddenly started dominating after Stallions got there.

It may have had an impact.

Maybe.....but also, Michigan has put a crap ton of players into the NFL the last couple of years, so maybe - just maybe - talent had something to do with it? A QB with an NFL arm? A defense littered with pro-players? RBs now playing on Sunday? They had 13 players taken in last year's draft - more than any other progrum, so.....I dunno. I think Harbaugh is an absolute cheater with no moral compass but I also think he's one of the best coaches in football who happened to have a bumper crop of players his final two seasons.

Did y'all see the three schools besides Clemson who took no transfers this year?
Did they really not take any transfers?
Dabo has been publicly against using the portal. Though I honestly can't seem to understand what his actual reason is for being against it.
Yeah, I've heard that. Just surprised it is an actual zero. Hopefully his stubbornness takes down all he built up over there.

Listening to sports talk on the way into work and they were talking about the starting center for the Ducks going down with an injury, could be out for a while. That shouldn't really matter the first few games of the season, but it could impact the team when the games get rough.

But what really made me smile is that the kid who is taking his place is a local kid who walked on as a freshman and is now a senior.....his name is Charlie Pickard and I used to coach him in soccer and basketball many years ago. So that's cool! And yes, I'm taking full credit for this. ;)

Some of the NOA has started to leak out. There is rumblings that the entire document will come out prior to Saturday's games. Information that has been shared thus far:

This entire investigation - both the computer access crimes and the impermissible advanced scouting scheme - began with "unprofessional and inappropriate conduct" by Matt Weiss inside the football facility. Based on witnessed behavior, Weiss' university-owned devices were seized and he was put on leave.

University IT brought in a cybersecurity firm to gain access to Weiss' encrypted devices.

Objectionable content discovered falls into two categories:

- Sexual content: including content stolen from the iClouds of UM students as well as pornographic images of unknown origins. This piece was handed over to the FBI, and there is an ongoing investigation into Weiss. However, it was noted that all students were over the age of 18.

- Football content: Evidence of an advanced video scouting scheme, video recordings of opponents' sidelines, mockups of opponents playsheets, and a spreadsheet schedule of games to be scouted, including assignments and logistics details.

Each of these two "buckets" of content were referred to separate legal firms at the behest of UM to determine next steps.

At some point, a third firm became involved and obtained much of the same advanced scouting scheme evidence as discovered by the UM-contracted firm, but also went on to "close the loop" with irrefutable evidence of tickets being purchased, assignments made, games filmed, video materials prepared and uploaded, and ultimately the scouting videos and ancillary materials being accessed by UM coaches. This group is the one that sent investigators into games knowingly being scouted to gather video evidence of the UM operatives. This firm notified the NCAA of its findings.

This specific loop is laid out step-by-step in the NOA: /game scheduled/ > /tickets purchased and assigned/ >/ game scouted, operatives photographed at venue by investigators/ > /video scouting and game materials prepared and uploaded/ > /video materials accessed by multiple members of UM coaching staff/.

The NOA also alleges that UM knew of the advanced scouting scheme as first uncovered by university IT and the cybersecurity firm they hired to get into Weiss' devices. Despite this awareness UM administration did not notify the NCAA, nor did they make any necessary personnel changes "to uphold their responsibility of integrity to the Big Ten conference and the NCAA" (quoting a source's paraphrasing here, for clarity's sake).
Based on the NCAA and NOA providing all of their evidence to UoM, it explains Warde's change of direction from "We're going to fight" to "if we do do things against the rules that we know are against the rules, we need to admit it and move forward and deal with it." during his interview yesterday. As AD, he's seen the NOA and knows what the NCAA has as far as lack of institutional control. This has moved beyond Harbaugh and a rogue staffer into something that is going to impact the institution itself.

Listening to sports talk on the way into work and they were talking about the starting center for the Ducks going down with an injury, could be out for a while. That shouldn't really matter the first few games of the season, but it could impact the team when the games get rough.

But what really made me smile is that the kid who is taking his place is a local kid who walked on as a freshman and is now a senior.....his name is Charlie Piccard and I used to coach him in soccer and basketball many years ago. So that's cool! And yes, I'm taking full credit for this. ;)
Think he'll be back in time for the OSU game @ Oregon? Would be nice to see these two squads go toe to toe with everyone healthy.

I think so, but it's frustrating how opaque college teams are with their injury info. Hopefully, Charlie does well and can be a swing lineman all season, but yeah, it would be ideal if both teams were healthy and at their best prior to the big game on Oct. 12.

Be interesting to see if NDSU wears them down in 2nd half.

Sanders has some great stats, looking forward to seeing more games. He got aqway with a lot in that first half that won't work. He likes to drop back further when the pocket breaks down, and you cannot do that in the NFL very often.

The difference in speed between the teams is laughable. NDSU does NOT have the DBs to hang.

Shadeur is pretty decent though still overrated IMO. Shilo is not good though. He is repeatedly out of position and getting roasted.

Come on *checks notes* Bison?

How could you watch that half and think he’s overrated. He stood in the pocket getting crunched and delivered darts.
69% last year behind a bad line.

Even the good ones miss. I ain't seen this guy miss, aside from that weird goalline play.

His accuracy is really undeniable.

Wow.....totally bailed them out there (the play, not the call. Obviously that's PI)

So dumb that guys don't just turn around there. Chance of them completing that pass if you just turn around is so low. Chance of PI if you don't is so high.

Also WTF is Colorado doing throwing the ball there? They could've run the clock down to like 10 seconds.
