2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (3 Viewers)

Who is a UNC fan? I would like to laugh at you.
My daughter is a junior at JMU, I'd like to join you.
Check out their team!! I just saw a cool article on the Athletic about them.
I have been going to 1-2 JMU games a year for the last 10+ years.

My sister is an alum, still lives in Harrisonburg and is season-ticket holder.

When I am being a bad dad, I pull out a video we have of my daughter when she was about 8, and she was screaming "GO DUKES" at a football game. Never fails to embarrass her...

Yes, but lest we forget, he is a man of god. No need to besmirch deion like that.

Sure but this story is not about Deion Sanders. Its about a former NFL player who not long ago was in Riyadh and Jordan trying to raise a $10m NIL fund for from Shiekhs and sovereign state funding sources and is now washing dishes and volunteering as a high school football coach in Hawaii. But the fact is he's likely ahead of the curve. Of course Colorado wants to distance itself from this guy now, but the money quote comes at the end: “I’d say close to 50 percent of schools and athletic department leaders would navigate their way to yes,” a top NIL executive said last year when describing the possibility of Saudi investment in college sports."

This number is surely only moving in one direction. I'd expect nearly every single big college football program that wants to remain competitive would happily take Saudi money today. PE / fund money is reportedly already involved in NIL. Its spiraling out of control imo.

How does the return on investment work for that?

It doesn't. This guy went rogue.

Riley Leonard is atrocious. How he convinced Duke and Notre Dame coaches he could play QB is beyond me.

Freeman also crapping the bed against the MAC at home. He’s already on razor thin ice and this isn’t helping.

James Madison -- getting a $700,000 guarantee from North Carolina -- defeats Tar Heels, 70-50, in Chapel Hill.

The win over a Power 4 team gives Dukes coach Bob Chesney a $15,000 bonus. And each JMU assistant, and its head strength coach, will get $2,500.

Pretty small bonuses, but still a pretty good day for JMU Football.

I can't say why a fund like PIF would "invest" in NIL for a college football team. Maybe they just want to get a foot in the door and $10m is pocket change for a fund with over $900bln in assets. They put over $2Bln into LIV Golf and another $2bln into ATP/WTA tours, bought Newcastle United, etc. all in the past few years. There might be some truth to the sportswashing theories, but that wouldn't apply to the US based investment funds that are supposedly getting involved in NIL. I expect these non-booster investors see the massive income stream flowing through college football and think they can get a piece of it as the programs drop any semblance of amateurism and move more toward a professional sports model. Its also possible this guy was full of #### the whole time and this opportunity was never close to being reality. He also claimed his contacts in the "Mormon community" were "worth about $3 trillion."

What happened to NC State? Some people had them winning the ACC before the year.
They are a HUGE disappointment. A ton of portal guys came in and it’s simply been bad.

Now having a true freshman making his first start in Death Valley is tough….but it was the defense that totally got ran over.

Anyway….ACC? Nope. It will be Clemson vs Miami.

And how about James Madison today….whoa!!!!
