2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (8 Viewers)

Halftime report:

Oh my God is the OU play calling horrible. No motion. No disguises. No easy throws. They have not helped Arnold AT ALL. And he is definitely not good enough to overcome that yet. It's literally the worst play calling I've seen on Saturday or Sunday by any team this season.

Welcome to Big10 Football USC

GO BLUE!

Moss was off his game, but I really blame this one on Reilly. Way too conservative with the play calling for most of the game. Sure there were some missed calls, but this loss was all on USC. Tip of the cap to the Wolverines.

P.S. Trojan O-line was pretty horrible.
Was at the game, definitely the loudest stadium I have ever been to.

Agree that play calling was too conservative early on and that Michigan D Line gave USC fits all day.

The last drive I don’t know how you let them break a run like that.

Good win for the Wolverines, nice fans and great atmosphere.

Surprised to hear that. I’ve been there 5 times and it’s never once seemed loud to me. Even some of their fans admit yea we are wine and cheese here. Glad it was a great atmosphere for you. I saw a decent amount of usc fans at the Detroit airport Thursday. They all seemed excited.

That was a good game. Better than I thought it was going to be.
There's like 39 games on. Which one are you talking about?
Sorry. The Michigan USC game
2 storied programs, both in the top 20, why wouldn't you expect a great game?
Primarily because Michigan has been mediocre and is very much trying to figure out how to move forward with all the losses.

It appears they are going to go the Tebow route moving forward. Lets see how far it takes them. I think it likely carries them against teams with soft trench play. Not sure about the ones with trench play.
 Tim Tebow threw for 3300 yds and 32 TDs his first year as a starter.

Wow terrible spot in the Colorado game.

Bad break but then followed up with a bad decision to use their final timeout after a first down.

Which team can screw up more? 10 seconds left with the ball in the 50 and Baylor somehow has single coverage in the endzone despite no pass rush (what the heck?). Then Colorado drops the tying TD after the single coverage DB gets lost.

This is the worst defense I've ever seen.

I've never seen a hail marry where there was only a single defender 1 on 1 and Baylor just let it happen 2 plays in a row.

And on both plays the single Baylor defender had his back turned and fell down.

If replay had stopped the game with the clock running to review it, does college do a ten second run off like the NFL does?

Am I crazy or has Colorado’s passing offense basically consisted of just throwing the ball up downfield and either getting DPI calls or the receivers making great plays? Maybe I’m just a hater, but I just don’t get the Sanders love.

I remember when I had student tickets you could barely get The Wave going

It can definitely get loud in a good game but I’ve definitely been to some low energy ones in my time

I assume you are talking about his college. I was making my comments thinking about his NFL career where he was asked to make the simplest of throws, make good decisuons and dont turn the ball over. I dont have much reference for his early college career. I was 11.

I went to a top-10 game there with Penn state. Loudest I’ve heard it. To be fair the other times were bad Penn state teams and ultra bad Colorado. Still my favorite stadium in any sport.

Dang, nice win Michigan!
My goddaughter goes to UMich and was at the game. She and some of her girlfriends were dressed up as bananas, corn, and other yellow-type costumes, and were right in the first few rows. Got a LOT of TV time. Looks like she had a blast.

I know we are in a thread devoted to college football fans so this won't be a very HOT TAKE comment, but attending college football games at an electric stadium is the best live sporting event out there. Now, I've never been to a World Cup (been to a bunch of MLS games) and NHL is an incredible spectacle to soak in, but give me college football on a nice Saturday afternoon any day of the week and twice on Sat.

And while I'm a huge fan of the NFL, I doubt I ever go to another live game again. Too expensive, too full of idiots, too many timeouts and if you wreck yourself on a Sunday, that Monday morning day at the office is going to SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.

I watch as much NFL as possible, but honestly, 90%+ of it is because of fantasy football. If I didn't do fantasy I don't think I'd watch the games. Maybe MNF after work at my local dive?

But yeah, there's nothing like college football. I've been pouring a nice adult beverage just after lunchtime (West Coast) and either just keep up the fun at home watching all the games, or head out to enjoy beverages/games some with friends.

My experiences watching games at Texas were mind-blowing. Tailgate before, sneak booze in your boots (thanks to Pocket Shots - look 'em up), and just have a rip-roarin' time (even though I would always sit right next to the "visitor section".

I don't disagree but playoffs/WS at Citizens Bank Park is one of the most electric experiences I've ever had at a sporting event that wasn't college football.

Also I know it's not for everyone and sitting through a whole race won't happen for many but walking on the front stretch of Daytona as 40 cars come by at 200mph is fantastic

Yeah seems like nothing really even comes close to the college football experience in person.

I've done the Daytona 500, it was fun, but still not close for me.

Baseball games are really fun in person if they are close/tense games at the end. So I could see a really important game (WS etc) with a really tense last couple innings might be very cool, but that's very situational and obviously not comparing apples to apples against a regular CFB game (as opposed to the national championship game with a close 4th quarter).

I've never been to a world cup game. Hopefully I'll get to experience that in 2026 to compare but it still seems tough to compete with the college football atmosphere.

Yeah, I imagine that experience for the Phillies game was exceptional. I hope Portland gets a MLB team one day, but I doubt I'll ever see it.

Depending on which story you believe, either UNLV's QB just quit after 3 games (transfer from Holy Cross) because either UNLV didn't pay his NIL money or because another school stepped in and paid him to leave the team. They've beaten 2 P4 schools and would be considered the favorites for the G5 playoff spot right now.

Yeah, very weird story.

Obviously some he said she said going on, but i wouldn't be surprised to see more stuff like this happening. Lots of totally unqualified "NIL agents" out there taking an absurd % for very little work.

There was a story last year with Michigan St. where the university's official NIL partner that had contracts with over 30 football players "cancelled" the contracts mid-season (other than a few players.) They blamed a lack of support from boosters. The players had a meeting at a team hotel the night before an away game and were reportedly close to walking out. Its only a matter of time before holdouts and walkouts become common. The NCAA refuses to make the players employees so this kind of shady quasi-legal stuff is sure to happen more frequently. It seems to me low and mid-level players are already incented to move schools every season, and now seems likely they will consider changing schools mid-season.

Starting to sound like UNLV made some promises they can't keep. Also heard the QB had a verbal agreement, so nothing in writing. One person on X speculated that the negotiation was between the school and the player's agent, so maybe the agent mis-spoke or told the player he could get more from the portal. Either way, all sorts of shadiness until rules are put in place.

What an absolute ****show College Sports are now turning into.

Pay the kids.

Yeah……then tell me….whatever happened to the term Student Athlete? It died at the P4 level a long time ago….but now? With all this NIL money being waived around? It’s gonna infect all of D2 like a super virus.

Way to go Greed…..you have now ruined college sports too.

The pearl-clutching astounds me. I guess it was easier to pretend it wasn’t going on 50 years ago?
Once the playoffs start, it's gonna be the best thing ever--again.

This 12 team playoff might be the best year in year out event this side of the NCAA Tournament.
