ESPN guy wants teams leagues to schedule to their whims. The thing is they don't know who is gonna be good at the beginning of the year. Heck the Illini schedule looked tougher heading into the hear than it proved to be as Michigan Nebraska and Kansas all weren't as good as early season rankings had them.

I do like keeping the BIG BOWLS around for the quarters but think on a going forward basis, the BigTen should rotate where their championship game is held. There's no reason it should be in Indianapolis every year as it will be now through 2027. Use Vegas or SoFi on occasion.

Its been heading to this inevitable end since they scraped the reliably fun conference alignment system and formed the Bowl Coalition in the early 90s, then the Boal Alliance and eventually the BCS after the Big 10/Pac 10 and Rose bowl reluctantly signed on. Looking back, not only do I miss the magic of the big New Years day bowl games, but also honestly miss the excitement of those years when the AP and Coaches Polls split. The brain damage that caused to people who can't accept the realities of amateur college sports is what led us here.

Pretty much where I'm at, though I'd be lying if I didn't see concern in being in the fourth quarter with 3pt margins against Idaho and BSU and a Howard brain fart away from a winning FG attempt against OSU. Thought they had it corrected and then Wisc gave them all they could handle too. I get the survive and advance mentality and I think its perfectly acceptable in year one of a new conference. The blueprint has been provided for them to get through OSU. I think the matchup I'd like to see most is them vs Texas if Texas can manage not to crap the bed.

Oh I agree, I've been to Indy several times (including by coincidence at least once while the Combine was going on). Really walkable town with everything right there. There's a reason so many big events are held there.

Every OSU fan I've talked to wants nothing to do with this and thinks it's ridiculous. I've even seen UoM and OSU fans rally together to light this guy up on X. Never thought about this until your post but did they decide already that the Oregon side of the bracket gets the Cotton bowl semi-final and the UGA side gets the Orange Bowl? Would think Oregon could choose their preference as the #1 seed. They really did get screwed every way possible by either the committee or the dumb seeding rules.

Meh. If Oregon chooses to run the ball and beat them up in the trenches (you guys have told us all year how good Oregon is in the trenches), they win this game and cover the spread. OSU's run game is nothing to write home about, especially with this vaunted D Line Oregon has. They are one dimensional with a head case at QB. You saw it with your own eyes the first time they played Oregon. Trust what you are seeing and trust your coaches. Good Grief!!! Or, you don't really believe your team is as good as you've been positing this whole season. I think they are plenty good enough to beat them and it shouldn't be close. Run the ball. Keep it away from the OSU offense (WRs specifically) and they win.

Look, I don't care about Ohio State's hurt feelings and inability of Ryan Day to beat Michigan, I care about their NFL talent catching and running footballs and the guys on D who want retribution on Gabriel and the Ducks. This is a dangerous team, I don't care how bad they looked against Michigan. They will have had several weeks to rest up and heal and figure out their O-Line and outside maybe Georgia, it's the team that worries me the most and with Georgia's QB situation in flux, I'm not sure I'm really that scared of them.

Meh. If Oregon chooses to run the ball and beat them up in the trenches (you guys have told us all year how good Oregon is in the trenches), they win this game and cover the spread. OSU's run game is nothing to write home about, especially with this vaunted D Line Oregon has. They are one dimensional with a head case at QB. You saw it with your own eyes the first time they played Oregon. Trust what you are seeing and trust your coaches. Good Grief!!! Or, you don't really believe your team is as good as you've been positing this whole season. I think they are plenty good enough to beat them and it shouldn't be close. Run the ball. Keep it away from the OSU offense (WRs specifically) and they win.

It's really dumb. And if they do prevail, they may get to face the Longhorns. In Dallas. A home game for them. And should that prove fruitful, they may just get Georgia in the BIG GAME in.....Atlanta.

Texas hasn't beaten a ranked team all year so I am not as worried about them. But yes a home game for them and Georgia is absolutely nuts.

The better question is "I get that these teams used to be ranked before we knew how good they were (or weren't), but so what?".

Ranking at the time is irrelevant. Just means we didn't have enough information yet to know they weren't a ranked quality team.

We don't even need to focus on ranked teams. Texas didn't even beat a team that finished in the top half of their conference.

It's a legitimate criticism. The same one I have for SMU etc. They played a ranked team twice, and lost both, once at home by double digits. We have no idea if they're any good at this point. They may be, but it's a legitimate question/criticism.

GT beat FSU when they were top 5. Miami too. And would have beaten UGA if it wasn't SEC refs there. Maybe we have a better resume than Alabama if we get to count ranked wins when the game happened.

A couple of reasons. If you take the teams out of the bowls, not only are the bowls more meaningless, who is going to pay the bowl staff the 500k+ salaries?

Sure. Those reasons don't really make sense though.

My point is: the CFP doesn't own the bowls. Neither does ESPN. They don't pay those salaries. Neither do the schools, do they? Why would these actors continue to deal with the logistics of the bowls if there is now a real postseason option?

I thought ESPN owned a number of bowls. If I ever hit Powerball I want to buy a sponsorship and call one the "ESPN Need Content Bowl"

I was incredibly impressed with Tech's season. They are a good team.

Not saying by any stretch this Oregon team is the best in history, or even anywhere near that conversation. But if they get through this gauntlet to win it all, it will be the best season in history.

the BigTen should rotate where their championship game is held. There's no reason it should be in Indianapolis every year as it will be now through 2027. Use Vegas or SoFi on occasion.

Pretty sure they've already announced they're planning on holding it in Vegas at some point, but yeah it's locked into Indy through 2028.

ETA: they've already announced that with the hoops tourney, which will hit Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Las Vegas in the next four years.

I totally welcome Vegas and would support that 100%. But - in Indianapolis's defense - it really is set up great for a big game. Everything is downtown and walkable. There are tons of bars and restaurants. It's not super large or spread out.

Before going there, I never would have said it. But now having been there a few times - it does work well for a big game.

Yeah, Peter King would write glowing reviews of Indy during the NFL Combine and anytime he was there. Said it's impossible to beat for convenience, walkability and access to great restaurants and bars. I'd prefer that to Vegas if it wasn't so damn far away from me. I loathe Las Vegas.

Go, if you can. Indy's a really cool place for an event like this.

And make sure you go to St Elmos and order the shrimp cocktail.

That's definitely on the list - that and Sun King Brewery.

Oh I agree, I've been to Indy several times (including by coincidence at least once while the Combine was going on). Really walkable town with everything right there. There's a reason so many big events are held there.

And the St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail is incredible.

Another reason is that the NCAA headquarters is in downtown Indianapolis.

As I'm sure many have pointed out, Penn St. was incented to lose the Big Ten championship game. I was texting my buddy who is a lifelong PSU fan and he was not interested in winning that game. Not that they knew exactly how it would play out, but getting SMU in Happy Valley with the winner playing Boise St. is probably better than what Oregon is facing.
