2024 New York Football Giants (hello darkness my old friend) (1 Viewer)

Based on points allowed they expect the Giants defense to be slightly worse than last season 419 to 415 in 2024
I'd bet a lot of money against that ... Giants allowed 24.4 pts per game last season ... i think they will kncok at least 2 pts per game off of that total in 2025

Giants are going to be much better than people expect ... Def and QB play are going to be much better
The Giants offense was #31 last season in scoring with just 16.1 PPG
Russ and the Steelers were #16 with 22.4 PPG
If we meet halfway its 19.2 PPG ... Still low but I think the Giants have more weapons then the 2024 Steelers
Obviously Russ isn’t what he use to be and isn’t a world beater but I expect him make the offense much more competitive than it was last year.

The Giants only had 15 passing TD’s last season (with 13 INT), Russ threw 16 TD (with 5 INT) in 11 games.

I find it interesting that Waller is coming out of retirement to play for the Dolphins. The Giants need an established TE too, especially with a 1st round rookie QB, but I guess he didn't want to play for them.

Decided to retire during the Buffalo game last year when he was being used more as a blocker than a receiver. So staying with The Giants wasn't an option for him,at least not with Daboll still around.

I know about that, but I find it interesting that they couldn't work anything out. At this point I don't want him anyway. He's a quitter who hasn't been good in 5 years, is old now, and seems to be unwilling to play a major part of being a TE - blocking.

OK die hard G-Men fans. What's your gut feeling about this season? Do you think there's a real chance we can be competative and keep the season interesting into December? Or does your gut tell you it'll be another disaster? Or somewhere in between? I'm a glass half full kinda guy so I'll say 60% chance we're watchable into December. 30% chance we're somewhere in between and 10% chance it's another disaster. What say you all?

I think the Giants are going to way exceed expectations ... It think they will be competitive in almost every game and will pull off a few unexpected wins along the way ...
Of course this is all depending upon being healthy.
I actually think Evan Neal winning the starting job could be the X Factor for getting the Oline to the next level Oline . Neal was easily the best Run Blocking Olineman for the Giants and one of the best of all NFL tackles last season. If Neal wins the G spot, competion at Center with Van Roten and Schmidts will force Schmidts to step it up a level.
I believe Giants were the worst team in the NFL running the ball in the red zone so they clearly needs to be fixed. I would like another big pounding RB, I'm not sold on Scattabo and I'm concerned that he did not step on the field during OTA's and Mini camp. I don't particularly like Tracy or Singletary ... they are OK but not the answer
The Giants were also one of the worst explosive play teams in the NFL last season and Russell Wilson was one of the best explosive play QBs in the NFL
I think Wilson is being way underratted for some reason, as is Jameis as a BU. He's another explosive play guy.
The Defense was one of the worstat creating turnovers in the NFL and they have added a couple of Ball hawks in Holland (S) and Adebo (CB) ... That also makes Banks a #2 CB which will match hime against the 2nd best WRs
They Dline has been signficantly upgraded externally through Free Agency and the Draft . Carter has Micah Parsons potential which would make any defense good but one of the under the radar factors could be the improvement of Thibideaux.
KT looks like he is taking the offseason very serious. He's added size and strength and looks like he is easily in the best shape of his career. I heard him in an interview the other day and seems like he's been hitting the books as well ... very impressed with his football IQ and the techniques that he has been working on

If they didn't have the worst schedule imaginable I would say 9-11 wins and the playoffs but since they do ...
I think they will win 6-9 games

4th place in division

Speaking of Skattebo ... If he is healthy, This is going to be fun !

I think that they will be competitive game to game but I doubt their overall record is going to be impressive. I do think they will top the current Vegas win total of 5.5. Having a capable veteran QB running the offense should mean that they aren’t ranked in the 30’s in total offense. I think they can be mediocre on offense. (It’s really sad but mediocre would be a vast improvement over the last couple of seasons)

I’m really excited to see what this defense can do. On paper that pass rush looks scary! Of course they have to stop the run before they can unleash the pass rush but I’m hopeful. Like Qammy, I like the addition of Holland and Adebo on the back end. Hopefully the light comes on for Banks but the team will have to put him in the right situations. He seems more like a man to man corner, he struggles in zone. Bowen's history is more zone than man so I'm not sure Banks will take that step up.

I stand by my prediction that they are going to steal one of those 1st two road games.

Dallas, they're going to steal the Dallas game. Dak will be on his back all day.

Russ can throw a rainbow, but that is about it. It also won't be even a little bit accurate. He can use the middle of the field at all. The Giants offense is dead until he is off the field.
Counterpoint:

The Giants' QB last year was Daniel Jones.
I would much prefer Jones to Russ
I can only think of two things that would make someone take Jones over Russ
Speed and age
Russ is cooked. He was terrible last year. His big play s mostly came on terrible throws that Pickens covered up

Top 15 QB ... on a team with one of the worst WR groups in the NFL and a bad Oline

Giants have a more talented O coordinator, and Nabers is a better/less angry Pickens. Not to mention Russ can make an anticipation throw or 50/50 ball, something Jones never grasped how to do in 6 years. I think Giants fans are underestimating how much the offense will open up just because throws will go to pass-catchers who aren't WIDEASS OPEN.

Like, assuming the protection is good... if the WR has a step on the CB/robber is on the other half of the field, the ball is coming out that WR. That's something that hasn't been a thing in half a decade; I know I haven't been on the board much this summer but that's a massive gain that I don't see people talking about. There are hundreds of plays not made/throws not made in Daniel Jones' resume that for a QB is a "take the shot" play.

If that's true then Jaxson will be throwing Darts sooner rather than later

Some updates from day 1 of training camp https://www.bigblueview.com/2025/7/...-jaxson-dart-malik-nabers-russell-wilson-more
Cor’Dale Flott and Deonte Banks rotated at right cornerback with the first team. It appeared that Flott may have gotten more reps than Banks.
  • The starting offensive line was Hudson (LT), Jon Runyan Jr. (LG), John Michael Schmitz (C), Greg Van Roten (RG), Jermaine Eluemunor (RT).
  • Evan Neal worked one series with the first team at right guard. Otherwise, he ran with the second unit at left guard.

Hey guys, any chance Dexter Lawrence might request a trade tomorrow?

Looking for a 3 for 3 special here from all the NFC East rivals.

Signed, Eagles Fan

Bam Bam Cam limping
Malik The Magnificent in and out
I have a very bad feeling about this
We may only win 9 games this year

Well... it could have been. Parsons was drafted 12th in the 2021 draft. Do you know who had the 11th pick? The Giants. They had traded down... with Chicago. Chicago ends up taking Fields. The Giants? Picked Toney.

Pardon me while I go weep in the corner.

It’s gets worse. We got a extra 1st rounder from trading down. With that first round pick we picked Evan Neal.

I’ve not yet completely written him off yet. But yeah, I hear ya.

Loved what I saw from Dart, but even more I LOVE the decision to play him the second drive of the game to halftime. We got a good look at 3-4 full drives + him in the 2 minute drill. THAT"S what I want to see, give the rook a lot of time so he can sit on a body of preseason work. Russ got the opening drive and Jameis got the 3rd quarter. 4th quarter was DeVito and everyone was sharp!

BTW, the Giants lack of depth on D was apparent. Please stay healthy guys...

Gonna be another brutal year for Giants' fans. I expect they'll finish in the basement of the NFC East and it won't be close. Maybe 4-5 wins tops. Anything more than that and this year is a success.

And what are you basing this on?
Cleary Dart can't play. Wilson is cooked, the OLine looked horrible and there was zero pressure against a good set of OLine players. Just like last year.

Really? First and foremost, they play in arguably the toughest division in the league and have the hardest schedule of any team in 2025. They won 3 whole games last year and didn't beat a single NFC East opponent (0-6). I could literally stop there.

They have a re-tread at QB, or crab legs or a rookie, who with one meaningless partial-game performance against practice squad players, had some desperate fans anointing him as the Savior. Their offensive line in Van Roten... again. They have an average defense, that'll get exposed because of their poor offensive play. They likely will go 0-6, maybe (1-5) against NFC East opponents again. From their remaining schedule, who are they beating?

Chiefs - no
Chargers - no
Saints (@ NO) - maybe
Broncos - no
49ers - no
Bears (@ CHI) - maybe, but probably no
Packers - no
Lions - no
Patriots (@NE) - maybe
Vikings - no
Raiders (@LV) - maybe, probably no

So, let's give them all the maybes as wins (4). Therefore, you can now see my prediction of 4-13/5-12. I said possibly 5 if they can pull off a home win against the Vikings. 6 would be the high water mark if they split with an NFC East opponent (Cowboys or Commanders). The sad part is every decent/hopeful matchup is an away game, which they could easily lose as well. Just brutal.

Your thoughts?

I think you make a good argument. But this year is not last year. Yes the schedule is tough, based on last years results. Playoff teams from last year won't be this year. Every year brings surprises and "I didn't see that coming" moments." I disagree with you about the defense,it will be much better than average. In spite of your dislike for Wilson the quarterback room is much better this year. Maybe I'm a glass half full person, but I think The Giants will be a surprise team this year. We'll see.

I actually think the defense is better than average but I don't have faith in the offense, because of the reasons I mentioned (poor O-line, and Wilson is past his best days), and that will tax the defense causing to underperform as most games wear on.

Based on my predictions above and the matchups they have, where could you possibly find more than 6-7 wins? Best case scenario, they split with all 3 NFC East opponents and win every decent matchup (7 wins). I don't see the Giants making the playoffs at all, but I guess if they hit 7 wins after only 3 last year, with the toughest schedule, that would be a win.

Where is this unhinged and unbridled enthusiasm coming from that we need this massive dose of "reality"? Is there a link for all this savior talk?!

The Giants were putrid last year. Have been for awhile. No one here is disputing that. The team has taken steps towards correcting that, in many ways. Are they ready to challenge for a Superbowl? Hell no. Even a playoff birth is highly unlikely. Do they appear to be better than last year? Yes. It's early, but there are positive signs that improvements have been made. (Pretty hard not to improve when you've been as bad as the Giants have recently been.) Only time will tell if this is yet another mirage. My bar is low: are they watchable. The past 2 years they have not cleared that bar.

The schedule is so hard, I think in the end they will be a better team than their record indicates. I also think the offensive line is underrated. Daniel Jones consistently made them look bad. I'm not saying they're an above average line, but with better QB play I think they will show that they're more competent than they've been given credit for. They're closer to average than people think, and maybe as much as average if Neal can become a good guard.

Google the Savior part, some are frothing at the mouth.
