*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (40 Viewers)

Oh, theyll probably win their 9 or 10 games, even if the qb play totally implodes. D is too good.

My mind hasnt been changed overall: This O it's not how you can win championships in today's NFL, and would get "Mahomes'd" in the playoffs.
Two game lead in the North week 3 and pessimistic take is losing to KC in the AFC Championship game. I’ll take it.

If they add an impact WR, I am not sure of this, but now, yes you are 100% correct

Its not, really. That's "best case". 🤓

More likely they back in as a WC and get "Tim Tebow'd" week 1.

I dont really see a path to that prior to the offseason.

Steelers deserve credit for a 3-0 start. The skies won't always align as it did today with all the opponent's best players going down, but you have to capitalize when it happens, and they did.
Totally. 3-0 is 3-0. Not ready to crown them AFCN champs yet, though.
Way too early and so much can happen during the course of a season. So far the D has kept all 3 games well within reach and are as good as advertised, especially the line and edge rushers.

The offense being efficient and controlling the clock is really letting the D stay fresh, allowing them to wreak havoc. -5 yards allowed in the second half!?!?

Perhaps we’ve all been Tomlined.
I'll own up to claiming that Tomlin is a good but not great coach. I was unable to see the game yesterday and I do think there are always things to clean up, but you've got to give the guy credit. That win against Atlanta looks especially good given how well they hung with KC and beat Philly. The jaded Steelers fan, myself included, will reserve a full-throated hurray until they can win at least one playoff game (as someone mentioned above) but at this stage of the season, we really couldn't ask for much more.

Last year I was so down on Mike T. Due to Kenny P, Matt C, lack of offense, losing 2 games in a row to bottom of the barrel teams. Not winning a playoff game in forever. Hearing the standard is the standard crap all the time. Seemed like the Steelers brass settled.

But without Mike T. There's no Justin F and Russell W. Do I think the Steelers should of won more than 2 Super Bowls during Ben R time in Pittsburgh. Sure but you can't put all the blame on him. A good amount yes. Steelers had some really selfish egotisticall players in Ben, AB and Bell.

Right now we are in the honeymoon phase with Arthur I don't need a job my daddy is a billionaire, Mike T and Justin. Steelers threw over the middle of the field yesterday. Khan's draft picks this year look very promising. Sure they lost Troy and Roman W has yet to play a game. But Peyton and Zach look very promising.

In no particular order I attribute all of this success to Kenny P wanting out of Pittsburgh. Mike T going outside the org to hire Arthur. Which was a huge move because previously he'd promote from within, Khan draft picks and of course the defense.

Justin is such a positive person. Almost everyone comes away liking the guy and his enthusiasm seems contagious. Last year near the end of the season Bears were 4-2. He played injured. I gotta stop typing my disclaimer is that I don't know personally any of the players or management. But this is the most excited I've been about the Steelers in years.

Personally good to great easily translates to a head coach winning 2 Superbowls for me.

And now Najee with an arm injury. Wouldn’t feel very confident in Patterson being the bellcow, even vs the Colts. Hope Harris ends up OK. Warren sounds more serious.

Do they even have a 4th RB on the roster? I think Patterson could do well, Smith is the guy who unlocked him at RB, but you gotta have more bodies.

No 4th RB on the roster. Jonathan Ward Is on the PS.

Did the other camp RBs land elsewhere?

Gotta say, I’ve been impressed and pleasantly surprised by the depth on this roster. Injury bug has hit pretty hard to begin this season, and Pitt has weathered the storm. I’d say that the only player we really can’t afford to lose is TJ. Cam, Frazier and Pickens are also very valuable, and our depth is getting thin, but we should be getting some big contributors back soon too.

The O isnt how you win today, but maybe it is, QB numbers down across the board, TEs dont exist anymore, teams running the ball more often.
And that D is the way you can win any game.

I'm not jumping around saying they go 14-3, but the way CINCY defense is awful. And CLEV whole team is awful. BMore is tough, but Steelers do well against them.
Winning the division is not a crazy thought.

11-6, win division, host a playoff game. That would be a successful season IMO, cherry on top would be finding a QB for the next 4-5+ yrs in Fields.

I do think another WR is needed. People talking about Highsmith for D. Adams from LV, I'm not selling future years for 2024. KC is going to super bowl, the NFL mandated that already.

Hopefully the Highsmith injury isn’t too serious. This defense could be special. They play within their means on offense and this could be a very good season. Schedule doesn’t look so crazy tough anymore.
Many think Herbig is better than Highsmith now. I am not there yet, but he is pretty good. Had 2 sacks vs LAC in like 19 snaps. He is quick as a hiccup, and follows Watt around like a little brother.

Agree with most that trading Highsmith would be a mistake, but also think Herbig deserves more snaps. He is a very good pass rusher, and didn’t look bad at all vs the few run plays he saw this week. Good problem to have.

I’m not panicking about WR. Miller and Austin showed well, and Roman has yet to see the field. This was the first week that they opened up the passing game, and even losing Van didn’t slow anything down. I’m very content with how this team is structured.

losing Van is probably an upgrade.
What was the injury Wilson suffered, he has been out since July. Did he break bones in his ankle/foot/leg? 2 months is a long time, esp when receiving therapy, to still be out.

high ankle sprain.

I don’t think Daijun Edwards signed with anyone else.

At least they’re saying Najee is fine for this week. Hope that’s true, because the Colts’ run D leaves me optimistic. Fingers crossed we get Issac back this week.

Adams isn't worth anywhere near that much with his current salary.

You shouldn't be. The WR room still sucks.

Not saying the WR room couldn’t be made better, but I wouldn’t give up much value to do so. I just think there is still some unrealized potential for it to be better by itself and giving a top draft pick, or God forbid a player like Highsmith for another WR would be a big mistake. Now a 4th rounder or later, for a good WR that only has a year or two left on his contract… that I could get behind.

These reporters or talking heads are so bored and not good at what they do anymore. You have on guy suggesting that the Steelers are going to bench Fields to "keep the costs down" and then others suggested they are going to trade Wilson for picks this years to the Dolphins. They want to win this year -- neither of these things is happening. 0% chance. Fields could go to the bench but not due to some future contract.

Doug Whaley made a comment about the Steelers potentially trying to keep Justin's value down. On Wfan Pittsburgh the broadcasters were discussing this they did mention that the comment made by Doug is out context even for him. They were trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Saying that they can't believe Doug made the comment. The broadcasters were speculating that if the Steelers make the playoffs, win 1 playoff game. That Justin could be looking at 40 million a year. Stating it's the going rate for a QB if he lives up to the playoff win and continues showing promise.

I do agree that RW is an asset at 1.2 million and a nice luxury to have. The Steelers shouldn't trade him unless they get an over the top offer.

Keep in mind alot of this benching players to save on costs. Pretty much came about because the other day the Pittsburgh Pirates DFA Rowdy Tallez so that they could avoid paying his $200,000 bonus of which he would of earned if he had 4 more plate appearances.

I thought Whaley's comments were ridiculous. If Fields stays healthy and continues to do well the Steelers aren't going to sit him.

5-ish he's one of the players that the GM never should have brought in. What's the bigger joke is they had him pitch in 3 games throwing that slower than slow 49 mph fastball. I try not to get my head to around the Pirates due to the owner being cheaper than cheap. The GM being horrendous and the manager fielding players who shouldn't be in the majors. Connor Joe batting cleanup at times. What a joke. Bad PR they should of DFA him a while ago not when he's close to a bonus.

Friday injury report:

Questionable: QB Russell Wilson (calf)

Doubtful: LG Isaac Seumalo (pectoral)

Out: RB Jaylen Warren (knee), LB Alex Highsmith (groin), TE MyCole Pruitt (knee)

Nobody plays to their level of competition like Tomlin.

So disappointed in Najee and the O line this week. If there were ever a game for him to go over 100 yds, this was it.

Defense didn't play well. Offensive line was full of rookies/second year players. 1 healthy RB. Poor decision by Tomlin on the challenge. And they were still in it until the end. Miss timed snap by Frazier was kind of big. Fields had a nice game overall and gave them a chance.
