Ravens players on video smelling Lamar Jackson’s new cologne, which apparently is unisex and smells like perfume because that’s what he prefers, saying “smells like George Pickens — soft”
This is basically spot on, imo at least (particularly the bolded). They absolutely need to dispense with the "dinosaur ball" mentality though. Over the course of this season they have proven pretty plainly that it can't beat the conference's best QBs with any kind of consistency.
This has been evident for a while, but it came to mind last night while watching the MIN/DET game. THE DET offense puts alot of pressure on the other team's offense as well as the opponent's defense. MIN was 0 for 2 on 4th and goal in the first half of the game because they anticipated needed many TDs to keep pace. The NFL has changed from the 70s, you need an offensive minded coach on offense to put pressure on the other team. The chance of winning a SB with a good D and mediocre O is pretty slim in 2025.

In today's nfl, with the rules that are in place to accelerate offense, leaning into the antiquated thinking that a great defense is going to be able to allow you to maintain a pedestrian offense is... let's call it misguided?
I get the whole "zig when everyone else is zagging" stuff that gets thrown out there by old schoolers and apologists, but I just don't see how that's going to work. It feels like you would need a "Baltimore Y2K" level defense, each and every year, to be able to maintain that philosophy.
Of course it can be done and has been done, but those teams are outliers in the modern NFL. But stubbornly sticking to that philosphy in 2025 is not optimal. This is basically spot on, imo at least (particularly the bolded). They absolutely need to dispense with the "dinosaur ball" mentality though. And then you've got the Chiefs... haven't scored 30-pts in any game this season... and will probably 3-peat with a mediocre offense and great defense.
It can be done... has been done (looking at the list of SB champions).
Ravens would be wise to STHU and just play. Dont give the Steelers or Pickens any reason to actually do any good Saturday. Kicking a guy while he is down is not always good.Ravens players on video smelling Lamar Jackson’s new cologne, which apparently is unisex and smells like perfume because that’s what he prefers, saying “smells like George Pickens — soft”

But let them go on, maybe fool some team into wanting Tomlin.Listening to the idiots on ESPN fawn all over Tomlin this morning is amusing. Had to turn it off. You can tell they never watch any of the games & you need zero knowledge to work for that clown show. Don't think I've ever thought going into playoff game like this year that Steelers have zero chance of winning and they will most likely get embarrassed..... again.
No one has Mahomes, except KC and Reid. Steelers have a lot of talent on defense. They have a lot of potential on offense outside of QB and WR2. Issues are with HC, OC and DC. And the HC determines who the OC and DC are in pittsburgh, and he also dictates what they do/call. Tomlin is a dictator, and is failing his owner, team and city, its time for a coup.TL;DR: the Steelers currently don't have the personnel to do what the Chiefs do.
Of course it can be done. Just about anything can. Here's the the thing though, the Chiefs scoring defense has been legitimately great the past two years (while the Steelers has just been good.) Top 5 unit both seasons. The year before that? It was pretty bad...so they shifted gears and scored over 70 TDs. So there we go, the Steelers just need to let Pat Mahomes throw mo-...oh, wait.
The Chiefs have two massive X-factors in Reid and Mahomes. That can't be discounted (plus, their defense actually has been great.)
So, sure, if Pittsburgh wants to airlift both of those guys to the facility next year actually have a great defense they can keep doing what theyre doing, I guess.
Love him or hate him what we know with certainty is that the Steelers owner loves him. And that’s all that really matters. Tomlin will be here for a long time (unless he decides to leave). No one has Mahomes, except KC and Reid. Steelers have a lot of talent on defense. The ownership is a big part of the problem. It was Rooney who pushed Arians outNo one has Mahomes, except KC and Reid. Steelers have a lot of talent on defense. I don't think I would describe their offense as good. Other than Daniels who is hurt and maybe Frazier and Freiermuth I don't think anyone would even be described as an above average starter at their position.Listening to the idiots on ESPN fawn all over Tomlin this morning is amusing. That's because their roster stinks, and has stunk, since the prime Ben years.
Who, on that offense scares anybody? Who is the most reliable player on offense? The defense is good... but not great... certainly not great enough to overcome two QBs that nobody else wanted.
Pickens is arguably their best play-maker... when he feels like it. You certainly can't trust him on a weekly basis. Oh, if only Mike Williams could have another two months to learn the playbook... then maybe.
Now, if you are telling me that Tomlin is the GM and responsible for the full roster... then yes, he should go.
If your acknowledging that this roster is not good enough, and you want to bring in a coach that crashes and burns so the Steelers get a top-3 pick to grab another franchise QB... OK, but good luck.
Fact is, Steelers roster, annually, is just good enough to compete for filler-places in the playoff picture. They are a 10-win roster and that's what you get.

How about I say this instead "your offense can't suck as bad as the Steelers offense sucks, no matter how good the defense is".Of course it can be done and has been done, but those teams are outliers in the modern NFL. Outliers? Need to take another look at the list of Super Bowl champions.
On the flipside, there's a l-o-n-g list of runner-ups and also-rans that put up huge offensive numbers but defense let them down in the post season.

He is certainly going to be on their list, sadly. So will Reek Hill instead of Higgins, or Godwin. This franchise doesnt know what to do at QB, and their once beautiful WR room(AB, Sanders, Wallace, etc) is now complete garbage, include Pickens, its in shambles. And they dont know how to fix it. It might actually get worse next year.Steelers are going to sign Aaron Rodgers this off season..
I certainly hope so, as it will finally allow for a tear down/rebuild.Steelers are going to sign Aaron Rodgers this off season..
QB is the first thing that needs to be resolved. I think Fields comes back.Let's be honest, there likely won't be any significant changes from this year to next year unless Arthur Smith gets a HC job. What will probably happen this offseason:
I maintain hope that the offense can do something if we get our O-line healthy and improve the 2nd tackle position and add 2 solid WRs. Hopefully 1 of those 2 is Roman Wilson, hopefully it was just injury and he bounces back.
- Keep Tomlin, Austin, and Smith (unless one leaves for another job of their own free will)
- Re-sign either Fields or Wilson
- Re-sign either Najee or Warren
- Re-sign Donte Jackson (maybe)
- Extend Watt
- Extend or Trade Pickens (we have nothing else)
- Cut Preston Smith
- Cut Cameron Johnston (minimal cap savings, but Corliss has been solid)
- Add a WR (hopefully a good one, draft or sign or both)
- Draft a T early
- Draft a RB too early
- Sign too many people so we don't get a comp pick for Daniels or for the QB/RB we let walk
There won't be some big blow up, and betting on the Steelers to win 8.5+ games next year is probably a lock. But probably so is a 1 and done in the playoffs.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the best thing that can happen for the next 5 years of Steelers football is for this team to win the Super Bowl...The best thing that can happen for the next 5 years of Steelers football is for this team to lose 52-3 on Saturday.
Re-signing Russ, who will command north of $30M or higher per year on average, is a death sentence.
Any result that is anything other that a complete embarrassment gives Tomlin another year of trudging along and staying the course. We were so close! We won 10 games!
Joyless, attrition football that is designed to beat the bad and injured teams (playing Cousins when he was literally a statue in the pocket and couldn't even go under center, getting Nix in his second career game when his head was still spinning, playing a half of Herbert with a high ankle sprain, and then feasting on NY teams in turmoil) but has no chance in hell of competing against a real team in a big game is just continuing to keep this franchise stuck in the mud.
In the last 7 years, we're 0-5 in the playoffs with our opponents averaging 40.2 points per game against us. That's no joke. Over 40 points a game. No coach should survive that and there's no justification for that to continue on.
0-6 and another blowout that's over in the first 10 minutes of the game would at least help create an environment where Tomlin may want to seek out another opportunity, whether another HC gig or doing something else, or lead to ownership forcing significant changes. Probably won't be enough for Tomlin to go, but it at least puts us closer to getting out of purgatory.
Also, there is a path! It's quite simple.I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the best thing that can happen for the next 5 years of Steelers football is for this team to win the Super Bowl...The best thing that can happen for the next 5 years of Steelers football is for this team to lose 52-3 on Saturday.

Every blue moon they throw the ball to a receiver down the middle. Does that qualify as a trick play for the Steelers?Speaking of trick plays, why is it that we never attempt any? I hope they try some creativity this Saturday. What they do week in and out will not work.

Actually the only trick play I remember this season was the fake punt against the Commanders which would have worked had Pierre caught the easy pass
Only the Jets lol. You can’t make this **** up.Jets reportedly requesting an interview with Artie for HC vacancy.
Does he need some help packing? A ride to the airport maybe?
Which is fine for the Ravens because the Steelers D tends to ignore the tight end.Flowers being out doesn’t help the Ravens cause, probably likely Likely is more involved than usual.
I was about to write this.Which is fine for the Ravens because the Steelers D tends to ignore the tight end.Flowers being out doesn’t help the Ravens cause, probably likely Likely is more involved than usual.
They did.They've quit. Disgusting.
Glad you’re seeing the light. Trust me you are not in the minority after tonight. Tomlin has to go. Let’s get what we can in terms of draft picks for him.I've been posting here since Tomlin was hired and you'll never find a post from me saying I want him fired.
Would prefer a trade of course, but if not I wish they'd fire him. Whatever it takes to get him out of here.
Don't care how many teams line up to hire him. Don't care about being 9-8/10-7 while never winning a playoff game and living in QB purgatory.
None of that does anything for me.
Seeing this team come out with passion, no plan, no energy in a playoff game is unforgivable. Now that, that does something to me, makes me extremely angry. I get sometimes when their talent is inferior, and it is tonight, but I can't forgive this kind of effort.
He's got to go!
But he doesn't live in his fears man!The coaches are gutless. Tomlin has been gutless for a long time now. And it’s reflected across the entire team. This franchise is stuck. They will never win another superbowl under Tomlin.
