*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (4 Viewers)

Steelers WR core is abysmal. GP is not a true WR1. He only has 3 TDs.

Sam Darnold will resign or be franchised by the Vikings. Granted he's had a great year. But he's never had talent like Jefferson, Hockenson, Addison, Jones etc

If Mike Tomlin brings back RW it will be another slow bleed season. Eventually Tomlin will not be the head coach. Could take years from now and/or when he retires

There are no playmakers. Pickens cannot separate. Every play is contested. Mike Williams was toast years ago. Van and Austin are #4s at best. Muth is arguably there best past catcher and he’s far from elite.

Combine that with a struggling line and the best QBs would look bad. And Wilson is far from “best”.

They need a complete rebuild. Entire coaching staff, QBs, receivers, OLine, etc etc.
Dude they Hada winning season.. They will resign Wilson 2-3 years at 20M a year.. They will have the same staff next season,
Multi year deal for a starting QB will cost well above 20 mil. The current cheapest is Geno Smith who signed in 2023 for 25 per.

You're looking at 30+ minimum for anyone signed as a starter, even for someone like Wilson.

Want to see a super cut of confused looking Steelers standing around and pointing at each other after giving up another uncontested touchdown pass

The offense is so abysmal I would just go with the cheapest option for QB next season and get a higher draft pick for 2026
The FO loves Russ.. He also has been vocal and wanting to return.

Forget about JF.. They went stale on him. If JF was getting snaps, I would think they may resign him, but he sits on the bench and at times all by himself. He is def gone this off season.

The only guys available in FA are players like Flacco, Jimmy G, Lock, Brisket, Winston, Lock, or Dobbs.. Steelers are too stubborn to sign a QB and basically lose to rebuild.

I much rather they draft or do that and sign a guy like Tee. They need a playmaker so bad.

Not playing porter on chase until higgins got hurt was a huge mistake.
I don't think Cory Trice played bad TBH.. Chase is a elite WR for a reason.. Trice got burnt a few times, but her did well at controlling big plays from Chase... Porter would have been a nightmare and would have been called for pent after pent on Chase.

Some Steeler fans thinking Darnold comes here to fix this mess are funny. They seem to misunderstand that his turn around is due to having an offensive minded QB-friendly coach in KOC plus one of the best WR duos around in JJ and Addison.

If he goes to the Steelers you'll see the NYJ version.

The WR corps is probably the worst in the league. Van Jefferson should not be a pro, period. There is no true #2. I had high hopes for Roman Wilson but he didn't play a snap this year. I will push back about Pickens not being a true WR#1. He could and should be a top 10 NFL wide receiver. He has freakish skills. It's the pitiful play calling that is limiting his numbers. I've been yelling at anyone within earshot and at my TV all year for the Steelers to throw him one deep ball every quarter. He has incredible hands and he's gonna draw pass interference penalties too. At most, we get one deep ball per game.

Tomlin is going nowhere unless and until he decides to leave.

This is what they should have done the year they drafted Pickett. They didn't then, they won't now either. Ownership has never shown a willingness to go that far to this point, I can't imagine coming off 10 wins will make them do an about face.

Bottom line is pretty much that an organization would have to be okay with giving up revenues they'd garner from making the playoffs, as well as taking a hit to their pride/marketing/etc., if they straight up opted-in to "suck for a top draft choice to hopefully land a franchise QB the following year." That doesn't sound like anything most owners (and certainly not the Rooneys) are going to be on board with, regardless if it's a viable plan of action or not.

They absolutely need to dispense with the "dinosaur ball" mentality though. Over the course of this season they have proven pretty plainly that it can't beat the conference's best QBs with any kind of consistency.

The Steelers sent a clear message when they extended Tomlin. Mediocrity is acceptable as long as they can win enough in the regular season to keep the glorious, meaningless streak alive. He represents everything wrong with the Steelers right now - living off a media driven narrative that was earned a long time ago but hasn't been accurate for a while. Another year, another second half collapse when the well coached teams are gearing up for the playoffs.

Russ was never going to be the QB of a real contender, and allowing Tomlin to hire a guy like Smith to run the offense and promoting Austin to run the defense said they're content with the status quo. Could've tried to keep Flores. They're going to waste Watt's career and I see no indication that anything about their philosophy will change after this season.

I'm on call next weekend and they're putting this one on Prime so fortunately I'll be missing the debacle.

The standard is the standard. 1 and done

The sad thing is that even if the Steelers win the turnover battle, they still have no shot at winning. That’s how bad the offense is. And the coordinator and coaches don’t have even an iota of innovation in their game planning.

This. I told my wife that we need +2 turnovers to have a chance. And to the earlier post, I think the line needs to be above 7. I’m assuming 7.5 at least.

It’s -9.5

Praying we get annihilated in an embarrassing fashion.

This organization needs to be humbled until it can finally make the changes it needs.
There is no way I could root for the Ravens to hand the Steelers an embarrassing playoff loss.

Ever.

It may very well happen but even if it does I don't see any major changes except for firing a coordinator.

Instead I’ll root for a miracle

There is no way Arthur Smith is leaving unless it's on his own as a HC somewhere. I think the Steelers will bring back Fields. Not sure if Russ as well, but could be both. This draft and FA class are terrible for QB.

We have been down 2 starting Olinemen for the whole season - really 3 if your counted Herbig. Russ has been running for his life and WRs are not getting open or dropping passes. Russ did make some mistakes of late too. But we potentially win that Eagles game if Harris doesn't fumble a toss (we toss too much), this Bengals game was winnable -- same with the Browns. I don't think we are as good as we looked earlier in the season, but we aren't this bad either. And despite KC beating us handily and Buffalo being good, I don't think those teams are unbeatable. I am glad we got the Ravens -- a road win against them could propel this team forward. Just need to stay healthy.

I’m excited that we have a playoff game but I see this ending the same as it has every year for this team. I don’t think there is a single area where we match up well against the Ravens. How do we even exploit them when we have nothing on offense? Their D is also playing at a much higher level than earlier in the year. Unfortunately I think this game will be over by around the middle of the 3rd quarter (at the latest).

They need to bench him today if they want to win. I really doubt he takes that little and I hope Pittsburgh isn't dumb enough to give him that much. He is not really the problem, but he certainly isn't the solution. He is old enough that it will only go down from here.

WR is the problem. Next to QB it is the most important position in the NFL and Pittsburgh is the worst by miles.

Russ has been awful for over a month but not even Mahomes or prime Brady would perform well under these circumstances. The offensive line should improve next year but they’re not good enough right now. A team that always seems to do well at the receiver position had no plan for it this year.

I agree. It is really hard to say Smith is the issue. They don't have weapons on offense.

I think the line is actually much better than given credit for, especially considering the injuries they have had. Jones has been terrible, but better in the 2nd half. It takes time to develop at T. I expect him to be better next year.

Khan had a plan he just failed miserably.

Try to sign someone as a bridge QB and head back into the draft for another one on day 2 or 3. None of them are worth a day 1 pick.
I wouldn't even bother with anything other than a solid backup QB in this draft.
It is a weak QB draft, that's why at best I would wait.
Unless Allar changes his mind I don't think there is a decent starter in the group.
Agreed. I think it is Fields next year and seeing if he is an answer or not.

Yes and no. And Moore got crushed yesterday, but they didn't help him with scheme.

They never do. I don't understand why they never give him help. He is a solid LT. That is way undervalued. I really hope they bring him back.

This has been evident for a while, but it came to mind last night while watching the MIN/DET game. THE DET offense puts alot of pressure on the other team's offense as well as the opponent's defense. MIN was 0 for 2 on 4th and goal in the first half of the game because they anticipated needed many TDs to keep pace. The NFL has changed from the 70s, you need an offensive minded coach on offense to put pressure on the other team. The chance of winning a SB with a good D and mediocre O is pretty slim in 2025.
