9.14/10.02/11.14/12.03:
WR Emeka Egbuka
WR Christian Kirk
QB Cam Ward
RB Trey Benson
Went with a pair of WR at the 9/10...Egbuka is an investment WR, while I'm going to gamble that Kirk is my poor man's Jayden Reed. I debated Demario Douglas (who GDCY selected right behind me at the turn), and decided to go with what I felt to be the clearer of the two situations, as it seems the Pats are still trying to sort thigns out, while Kirk was acquired, paid and has a defined slot role in Houston.
Added my 3rd upside Rookie in my last 6 picks, making Cam Ward my QB2...considering how heavily I invested in Josh Allen, it probably wasn't the best idea to wait this long, as I'm expecting a massive weekly return out of the position, but Drunken Slob made quite the mess by going B2BQB in Rds 4/5, then taking his 3rd QB in Rd 7, before anyone had taken a 2nd. There's no way I was going to take my 2nd QB at the 7/8 turn, and after Fields and Lawrence went in the 8th, wrote QB off, with an eye towards Ward if he fell to a value spot. I have Ward's upside value ahead of the previous 6 QB selected, and with GDCY not having a QB2 either, I felt it was time. Not sure how much value the Cam/Ridley stack will offer, but I have it.
It was always in my plan to draft Benson, once I took Conner at 4.02, but not in Rd 12 of a 24-Rounder. Unfortunately, I felt compelled by the recent buzz generating...again, not sure how much value the Arizona RB stable will offer, but I have it.
Team Weird, through 12:
JAllen, CWard
Achane, Conner/Benson, JWarren
GWilson, Flowers, Ridley, Egbuka, Kirk
TWarren
Very seldom do I go Premium QB early in a Draft, but I wanted to see how things would play out when GDCY took Lamar at the 1/2 turn, if I followed up immediately with Allen, might it bring some value back by compelling others to follow suit. Only JD5, however, and if I'd known I could choose between Burrow/Hurts at 3/4, I'd have at least waited until then.
I'm not a 'reacher' by nature, but these silly 12 Team+ serpentine drafts kind of force it sometimes, and it makes me cringe a little. As it wasn't mentioned overtly at the outset, I'm going to guess some of us didn't immediately notice the Draft is a 24-Rounder, vs the more common 20, otherwise I wouldn't have been drafting QB 27 in the 11th Round of a start-1 League, while looking at 12 Defenses already off the board going *into* the halfway point.
