2025 College Football Thread: Lane Kiffin suddenly feels compelled to read morals clause of contract (144 Viewers)

Would you Michigan guys be happy with DeBoer ?
Gotta give Cignetti a call first. Sorry IU. Pay this man whatever it takes. That pesky little 15mm buyout doesn't sound so bad.

If he won't listen to reason (money), then let's talk to DeBoer.

You guys are nuts. Cignetti just signed an extension. Unless DeBoer gets fired, why would he leave Alabama for Michigan?

And if I am reading his contract correctly his buyout isn't 15 million. It is 15 million for 2026, then 12 million more in 27, then 9 million more in 28 etc, until 2033 when it finally hits zero.

I went and played the second season of college football 25 of a dynasty I started a bit back. Of course I was playing ND but the reason I bring this up is that not only did Tulane make the playoffs in it buy went all the way to the Championship game. I thought that was a little funny.

The Michigan Coach was arrested and is being detained by police?
They don't arrest you for impregnating someone other than your wife, trust me on this one
So he's assaulted his wife I'm assuming? Please don't be mad with me, I'm just trying to piece this together, the Reddit MODS have had their hands full the last several hours
Hard to tell exactly what is the truth, I'm sure it will be covered tomorrow...

Leave it to Michigan to steal the spotlight from Notre Dame which quickly had seized the title this week of most hated college football team in America
Sounds like he broke into the girlfriends house and threatened her.
Holy Bananas...all this guy had to do was lay low while this unfolds, wife divorces him but in a year or two he would have a new $1M job as an assistant or head coach at a smaller school
Not now, he just flushed his career down the drain and I wouldn't expect him to be around football anytime in the near future
Lost his multi-million dollar job, his reputation, at least half his money, his wife, his kids, his side piece and went to jail all in one day. Merry Christmas I guess man.
Did it to himself. I hope he can find help, but he can get ****ed and i have little sympathy for him.

Eta. I'm bored to death by bureaucracy of college football, coaching carousel and contract talk. Glad to be drug back into it. This ****ing guy......

College football is not "college football" anymore, far from it. The sport we all loved growing up is gone forever and not for better. Coaches have zero loyalty to players or schools. Players don`t care about being a student athlete preparing for life and playing sports. All they care about is who is going to pay me more? NIL, transfers, 5-6 years eligibility and still not graduate. Players will be at 3 maybe 4 schools, bigger well funded schools will buy the best players. Then after securing the players all the blowhards will thump their chest about how good their ole school is.

College football in reality now is not the NFL, but it is professional football.
First of all, I agree with the thrust of what you’re saying, which is why I don’t really pay attention to college football anymore. Not like I did when I was in my teens and early 20s, at least. That said, I do believe the NIL and heavy use of the transfer portal have created parity amongst the bigger schools. A few years ago, Bama and UGA’s 2s would’ve beaten other top 15 teams’ 1s, which is no longer the case. Those would be 2s end up signing elsewhere or transferring.

I was kidding mostly, but ofcourse you give them a call and kick the tires.

For the bolded as has been pointed out in this thread over and over. Money > loyalty. Why would anyone leave anywhere to go to Michigan? $$$$ is why in this era. They have plenty and now is a good time to see what it can get you.

But I'm begging them. No more Rich Rod experiments. Just get a guy that won't make it even worse for the next 5-10 years please.

What you're looking at Biff you're looking at a peak coaching physique

Poggi’s fashion declaration might be worse. He acknowledged he shaves his upper body prior to preseason camp.

“I don’t tolerate heat extremely well and it’s hot down here, so I desire as little stuff on my skin as possible,” Poggi said. “During the heat, I’m always shaving that things off. It’s just I do not wish to drop dead of heat exhaustion in front of the players.”

Good God - who wrote that article? I hope it wasn't Biff dammit.

How could a grad assistant resist this?

What did Warde know and When Did He Know It?
Apparently the staffer was promoted to "Executive Assistant to the Head Football Coach" shortly after Moore was given the job. Salary went from 58k to 90k. Some rumors were already floating around at that time.
I saw that table and my main thought was how little these folks normally make with all the l00t flowing around the industry.

If he's a millionaire we could have a Belichick situation. Tattered clothing is back in...

From an insider reporter -

They had always denied the existence of a relationship. Then Sherrone Moore had been advised/(instructed?) to move on from the staffer as his personal assistant because of the negative attention it was bringing to the program. When he followed through on that, the staffer went in and revealed the truth about their relationship.

Worked for Bobby Petrino

Sounds like she either caught feelings or Michigan didn't pay her off properly.

I'm not sure there's enough money to convince either to go to Michigan until the filth Harbaugh left behind has been firehosed out of the facility.
If there's one thing sports has taught us as it's evolved is that money makes problems go away and memories short.

But, you're right. There's definitely a stink in that building today.

If I didn't know better, I'd think Randolph and Mortimer Duke were behind this.

Fun fact: The James Madison Dukes are named after a rich man who was asked to buy the James Madison basketball players athletic shoes and basketballs so they could play the sport. In exchange, they named their mascot after him. How cool is that?

Went to bed with a scandal and woke up to a tragedy. Unbelievable story. I feel for everyone Moore hurt. What a piece of ****.

It's been a fun few years, but back to the dark times. Short term is probably gonna suck, recruiting, committs, transfers should be interesting. Long term depends on who gets hired. Get the **** outta here with Sanders or Meyer, but whoever it is will have their work cut out for them. There's big issues in Ann Arbor and a coach is going to need to fix a lot more than football.

I'm already exhausted. Get Dusty May in for an interview and see what he knows about football.
Yeah talk about a mess right before a bowl game. Anyone on the fence about leaving is gone now. I'd be surprised to see Michigan hold it together against Texas.
Absolutely. The program is a total mess. If the game were today i wouldn't be watching and I'm not sure I'll watch when it is on.

It's gonna be tough digging back out of this one. Timing is exceptional.

Anyone know if Nick Saban likes money?
Lol, he likes money. Hates NIL. I doubt he wants back in to college football as it is now. He got out at the right time.

I think Michigan's best option is to go after ASU HC Kenny Dillingham. He's really upset that ASU doesn't have NIL money to compete.
I was just kidding about Saban. He was smart enough to know when to say when.

I'm not even thinking about coaches at this point. Lots of dust left to settle. What i do want (if he's staying, I'm thinking maybe/probably, but have no idea) is a staff that can develop Underwood. Silver lining is this wasn't the staff to do it and maybe they bring one in that can.

I think they got a good one with this iterim guy Biff Poggi. I like the cut of his jib. Potential for scandalous behavior seems low.

Suns out, guns out.

It honestly feels like they should go into next year with an interim head coach and then see who is available next season.

Can't do that. Would be terrible for recruiting/retention. Have to get someone in quickly who will talk to the current players (especially Bryce) and get them to stay.

Yeah I doubt they go that route but wouldn’t rule it out
They have deep pockets and regularly put kids in the league. They’re one of the best college programs in the country I doubt they stay down for long

They also made head-spinningly stupid hires like Brady Hoke and Rich Rod. They can stay down far longer than fans can stay rational. We've seen it happen.

I kind of like the idea of Biff Poggi along with Wink Martindale handling the D. Quite a blue collar, unpretentious vibe there instead of the standard coaching carousel. Poggi did a great job with the transfer portal before. He seems to be all-in on his players while expecting a lot from them.

Going after a Cignetti or Lea would equally be about "able to win in the current NIL world" as much as it'd be about doing more with less. Michigan won't have a problem with talent, but the game has changed and coaches succeeding now have figured out how to navigate the world that is at this point for the sport.

Yeah but that was before you could legally pay players. Lot easier to flip a few kids these days

The more that comes out about this Michigan ordeal - the Athletic Director is cooked, no way they can keep him on. They knew he had mental health issues in the past and fired him alone with no HR present. See ya.

I hear there's an opening for an Executive Assistant to the Head Coach if they need a few more $$

I feel like that is the lesser of two evils. Hiring the wrong coach this late and after the coaches are picked over would set them back five or more years. Taking a gap year sets them back one or two.
