What's funny was that in my league Goff actually out pointed Stafford. I guess that's why they call it fantasy.
PFF graded Sewell as the 5th best OT this week. Not bad for a rook going against Bosa. Looks like the Lions got a real one here.
Ruptured achilles, out for the year
Ambry Thomas has a few words with him after he didn’t get his head around on the Deebo TD
maybe move him to Safety next year

Its only one game and Levi didn't play but Lions must have pressure on QB to win a game or two.Disappointed in the performance of Goff and the entire defense. I was expecting better pressure on the QB and decent coverage. Did not happen. Goff just sucked. You have to be able to throw some downfield.
Best thing that happened to Sewell was Decker getting hurt so he can show off his strengths. OL did its job, RB and TE positions looked real good.
Won't happen, but Cam Newton could make the Lions competitive in this lamest of lame division.
The Lions defense really misses Slay. Stupidest move in Detroit's history which is compounded by the Okudah pick and likely injury/bust. A real double whamy
WR were not even thrown to, but they seemed OK on the rare instances they were.
Did Barnes get any play at LB? Read that he was injured early on a kickoff and might not have played after that.
First place baby! Fooled everybody.Lions are 1-0 ATS & are in FIRST place.
I can spin anything.

Da Guru said:Feel bad for Jeff that he is hurt but it won`t impact defense. Jeff is getting beat right off the line almost every play. Looks totally overmatched in the NFL game. Was OSUs defense that good where he looked beter than he actually is?
I'm not saying this specifically about him. But one possible explanation for this type of situation is a player who relies heavily on performance enhancing substances in college and then stops taking them in the pros. I don't think that's the case here.
Another explanation is that he just wasn't that good to begin with. But that's difficult to reconcile. There were legitimate comparisons to Lattimore and Ramsey during the same stage of their careers.
Hs calling card was press coverage, he was never a speed cover guy. Maybe it’s just a lot easier manhandling B1G WRs than NFL.

Maybe he’ll become a competent safety. I think he’s done as a starting corner, need to reboot or move on. Wasted pick.
Friggin’ Quintricia...
It's early but Atlanta and Miami could use some better olinemen. The Atlanta line had pff's lowest pass efficiency rating, especially at LG and RT. Miami used rookie Liam Eichenberg at LT due to Austin Jackson just coming off the COVID list and he had a grade of 57.6, which is in Jackson terriority. A better LT or RT could move Miami's line into above average. Tua struggled again while under pressure. Waddle is gonna be good, but LTs or RTs in Tua's case are hard to find. How good was the Lions run blocking v the 49ers?
Jamaal Williams gained 40 of his 54 yards before contact.
Swift, 34 of 39. On a per Att basis their YBC average was 8th and 15th.
Pass blocking?
Penei Sewell manhandling Nick Bosa
Youngest to ever start at LT.
ARSB chip blocking a blitzed before releasing into his route
BTW, look close - that’s two different plays. It looks like a loop of the same play but it’s not; at least twice he knocked a guy on his ### before running his route.
Another EDGE to pair with Trey in 2022? Aidan Hutchinson & Kayvon Thibodeaux seem to be the big names as of now.#Lions players who finished in the top 10 at their position in PFF grades after Week 1:
T.J. Hockenson was 11th.
- Trey Flowers (8th among EDGE)
- Frank Ragnow (1st C)
- Penei Sewell (7th LT only)

Any idea as to why Levi O. didn't play? Injury or thought not yet ready? We could have used him to help pressure the QB.
How did Alim Mcneill grade out?
51.9
4 solo tackles which seems like a lot for a NT. I was keying on him a lot, he’s tough to move, but didn’t see him chase down anything that went outside.
The way Penei moves at 335 is phenomenal. When that ran R with him and Ragnow pulling, look tf out. Also saw a couple freeze frame photos of several plays where Sewell has left leg already off the ground after perfectly timing the snap. They say it’s uncanny, the other 7-8 guys with their hand in the ground are still down and without being early he’s up, out , and ready to set up. Dude is pretty special.
Also, postgame Penei said he was disappointed and feels like he can do batter. Bosa and Ragnow were praising him, graded out very good, but he’s pushing himself to be better. Love to see it.
It is not lost on me that in Dan Campbell's first game as head coach of the Lions, Raheem Mostert emerged without a kneecap
Concerns about Kenny Golladay's ineffectiveness and lack of separation being expressed by media
“It’s hard to tell on TV, but is Kenny Golladay just not open,” Ralph Vacchiano of SNY said. “Seems like the Giants are paying him a lot of money to just ignore him for an entire game.”
From Jordan Raanan ESPN
Had serious concern about Kenny Golladay and Kyle Rudolph early after seeing the way they were moving entering season,” Raanan said. “Both were coming off injury. But … Average separation Thursday at time of completion/inc, per NextGen: Golladay 1.52 yds.” Average separation Thursday at time of completion/inc, per NextGen: Golladay 1.52 yds Rudolph 1.25 League Average: 2.87
When with the Lions Golladay was said to be one of the WRs that created the least amount of separation in the NFL but was able to compensate with his physicality and having one of the best QBs in Stafford willing to throw into little space.
There was some criticism of Holmes for not resigning Golladay but the lack of separation, Stafford being traded and the huge contract Golladay got from Giants for the time being support Holmes" decision.
I don't know a single Lions fan that was upset about it. Appreciate what he did for the team and he got a great contract with the Giants.Don`t remember hearing much criticism at all about not bringing Golladay back. Spending big $$$ on a WR coming off a injury with a team rebuilding did not make sense.
Nope and talk about a guy who doesn't throw jump balls, Goff would have been a bad fit for Golladay.Don`t remember hearing much criticism at all about not bringing Golladay back. Spending big $$$ on a WR coming off a injury with a team rebuilding did not make sense.

I agree, Goff is a great QB to execute this tank. Just good enough to not embarrass the team and cause the players to become disgruntled but not good enough to actually win.Golladay would be trash with Goff. Stafford made Golladay and I would not be shocked if Golladay is a bust in NY.
As far as this crop of WR, there were several times that Goff either overthrew the open WR or did not correctly anticipate a WR running into a wide open zone. I think Goff is being more of a disservice to the WR than vice versa.
Prater may not be winning games for the Lions, but at least he is beating the Vikings.
Cardinals' Prater boots 62-yard field goal against Vikings
19 September 2021, 18:17
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Matt Prater still has plenty of leg left at 37.
The Arizona kicker broke the franchise record with a 62-yard field goal to end the first half on Sunday, putting the Cardinals up 24-23 over the Minnesota Vikings.
Prater's kick breaks the Cardinals record of 61, set by Jay Feely against Cincinnati in 2012.
And it's not even Prater's longest career kick. He's the NFL record holder with a 64-yarder for Denver against Tennessee in 2013.
Prater has been a long-kicking specialist since entering the NFL with Detroit as an undrafted free agent in 2006.
The two-time Pro Bowler holds NFL records for most field goals of at least 50 yards (60), consecutive made 50-yarders (14) and consecutive conversions of at least 55 yards (seven). His success rate of 75% on 50-yard field goals and seven seasons with at least five 50-yard field goals also are records.
Prater is clutch, too. He hasn't missed in 22 attempts on game-winning field goals with two minutes or less left in the fourth quarter or overtime, including 16 for 16 at the end of regulation.
The Cardinals signed Prater during the offseason to shore up a shaky kicking situation. Zane Gonzalez had an up-and-down 2020 season and veteran Mike Nugent filled in, but was not the solution Arizona needed.
Prater has played 15 NFL seasons with Atlanta, Denver, Detroit and Arizona.
The Lions need to don the colors/combinations that the 1952, 1953 and 1957 teams wore. That's my two cents and I'm sticking to it.BobbyLayne said:White on white tonight

naw holding out for Arch Manning in 2026Sewell is going to be good but I just think the Lions are going to regret passing on Justin Fields.
Looks like Iffy has a significant hamstring pull, will be out for awhile. Secondary is in bad shape rn.
Alex Anzalone with another bad coverage game. Should probably start evaluating Derrick Barnes.
I thought at times both lines played well. We got good pressure, 3 sacks. But with the back 7 playing so poorly there’s no margin for error. I get why they played two high safety most of the night - those young corners need the help - but we are going to gashed in the run gun and give up tons of crossing routes if they play that far off. We sustained too many drives last night - at least four 1st downs surrendered by penalty.
So many mistakes. All over the place. Frustrating, but that’s gonna happen all year. Try the o course correct but we are going tin o lose 13-15 games.
Goff has moments. He’s not bereft of talent. The 46 yarder on 3rd and 1 first drive was awesome. Perfect throw to Hock on the second TD. Started out 11/12 for 112 and 2 scores. Probably a career high rushing the ball, he generally never ever takes off.
HATED the 2 minute drill. Intentionally ran time off first two runs, bc they were playing skeered - didn’t want to give the ball back to Rodgers. They were getting it first to open the second half so LFG. Chicken #### move to settle fir FG there.
Overall I thought Campbell stayed aggressive but wasn’t reckless. Lynn had a good game plan in the first half. Not impressed with Glenn’s scheme but recognize he’s handicapped by the lack of talent at LB/DB. Fox was awesome, per usual, but lousy KR can coverage.
They played tight in the second half and the mistakes snowballed. Just want to see more discipline and for them to be competitive for 60 minutes minutes.
Long season ahead but Hock & Swift are fun to watch. Cephus might be marginally better than I thought. ARSB is OK but nothing special so far. Sewell is so freaking good. But too many holes.
Glad I’m out of market and only have to endure Thanksgiving. Must suck for you guys that actually sit through this garbage week in and week out.
The first of all 5 bird teams we’re playing this year! Highlight of the schedule.Lions are about a 9 point home dog. Very slim chance to win is if Ravens are still celebrating that big win at KC. Road out of conference games vs. bottom level teams also sometimes create strange results.
Am I crazy to think we match up well? Bring some more pressure on the LOS vs the two high safeties we needed to play last night? Offense was good for the first half and just kinda fell apart once GB got a lead and the weather went bad. Ravens D doesn't seem quite as good as they have been in the past. Maybe just because I'm going to the game but I feel pretty good about taking the points this week at a minimum and gonna shoot a missile at the money line too.Lions are about a 9 point home dog. Regardless of last Sunday's outcome, the Ravens are a mess. Half of their starters are either out or banged up enough that they may not play much this week.Lions are about a 9 point home dog. I think you're right, in that the Ravens put everything they had into the game against the Chiefs. I don't think they'll be celebrating it too much, though. They had no business winning that game with the shape they are in. I expect a let down & the reality of just how shorthanded they are to sink in this Sunday for them.
Definitely liked this.BobbyLayne said:White on white tonight
