2025 Detroit Lions: Game 1 Lions vs Packers. (55 Viewers)

if not, there are some elite defenders, and maybe you grab a qb with a late 1st early 2nd instead or you wait another year on that.

They could also look at trading down and stocking up picks. For a team with so many needs this may be the best option if they end up with the first overall.
kind of wanted that this year but we hit on a guy who is going to be a perennial Pro Bowl T so all good. but we need depth in our drafts, not just layup stars that anyone could have “found.” I liked this years class all the way through.

you look at teams like the Browns and realize it can get turned around quick. Every single pick of Andrew Berry is on the roster - 15/15. We have never had a Ravens level draft, not even once. They’ll take guys who are athletes, not the most productive pedigree, and coach them up for years. Then in Y3 or Y4 they’ve turned that athlete into a high quality football player.

we need that level of consistency from our scouts and Brad Holmes. and I really like the amount of time this staff devotes to teaching and helping these kids refine their craft.

last Sunday sucked and it was like a classic Lions giveaway. yep, refs played a part, but if stay aggressive in the RZ or let the clock run and keep pressuring Lamar on 4th dsown, it never gets to that.

Campbell needs to up his game day coaching. when your guys have been getting it done for the entire half, show some faith in your guys! this is a splash play league, on both sides of the ball. that turtle up mentality has to go.

I don't think the league, nor the officials, have it out for the Lions.
Not overtly, no.  I do believe it's a subconscious thing at this point by the officials.

They KNOW the Loins are destined to lose, and their calls tend to confirm their bias towards this result.

I really wanted them to trade down in the Jeff Okaduh draft but you never know how much interest there is. I was shocked and thrilled they landed Sewell in this draft and I think that was a good anchor for this team. This coming year hopefully we get an offer we cannot refuse and load up on picks.

As far as Campbell goes he still getting his feet wet and I have confidence he will improve. Why?…because unlike the last dip$##t of a coach we had he doesn’t seem to let his ego run the ship and he holds himself accountable without excuses. He seems open to new ideas and accepting of help from others. Thus him loading up on staff this off-season and those guys really implementing a hands on approach with the players. Sounds like a broken record but I think we are slowly heading in the right direction.

Lions' Week 3 Top 5 PFF-Graded Offensive and Defensive Players

Here is a look at the top Pro Football Focus performers for the Detroit Lions from Week 3.

VITO CHIRCO si.com

If you haven't heard already (you probably have), the Lions lost in devastating fashion to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. In the Week 3 contest, Ravens kicker Justin Tucker set a new NFL record, making a 66-yard field goal to beat the Lions, 19-17.

It was a hard one to swallow for Detroit and its fanbase. Yet, there were still positives to take away from the loss.

First off, outside linebacker Julian Okwara, in his first taste of extended playing time since being drafted in 2020, finished with three quarterback hurries, and was Detroit’s highest-graded defender, per Pro Football Focus.

The second-year pro also recorded the highest overall PFF grade of any Lions player in Week 3, with a 91.7 mark.

Rounding out the top five Detroit defensive players for Week 3, per PFF, were safety Tracy Walker (82.5), cornerback Amani Oruwariye (79.5), OLB Romeo Okwara (77.3) and EDGE defender Charles Harris (71.9).

On the offensive side of the football, running back D'Andre Swift led the way in Week 3.

The second-year runner posted 47 yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus another 60 yards as a receiver. The Georgia product also finished with a PFF grade of 82.1 in the loss, the highest mark of any Lions offensive player for the week.

Rounding out the top five PFF-graded Detroit offensive players for Week 3 were center Frank Ragnow (75.5), receiver KhaDarel Hodge (73.3), offensive lineman Matt Nelson (72.9) and tight end Darren Fells (72.7).

Meanwhile, the Lions' five worst offensive players for the week, per PFF, were tight end T.J. Hockenson and offensive lineman Jonah Jackson (51.3), offensive tackle Penei Sewell (45.5), wideout Trinity Benson (43.5) and OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai (35.3).

Only three Detroit players finished below Vaitai in Week 3 PFF grades: Safety Will Harris (28.8), cornerback AJ Parker (28.2) and linebacker Derrick Barnes (24.9).

The bottom five PFF-graded Detroit defenders for the week also included defensive tackle John Penisini (42.8) and fellow DT Alim McNeill (40.2).

Next up for the Lions is a Week 4 contest with the Chicago Bears. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Soldier Field.

_______________

We’re on to Chicago.

Dan Campbell said he understands people want him and the organization to more forcefully complain about officiating, but that's not his style. He's moved past Sunday and has the team focused on creating their own luck:

_______________

Lions' Dan Campbell on officiating: 'You make your own luck and we'll find our luck'

Justin Rogers

The Detroit News

Allen Park — Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell finally revealed he got some clarification from the league following a potentially missed delay of game penalty in the closing seconds of Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens that would have negated Justin Tucker's NFL record 66-yard field goal attempt.

If you were hoping for a satisfactory response, or even a mea culpa, prepare to be disappointed.

"I didn't turn it into the league, but I called and it's really a subjective call is really what it came down to," Campbell said Friday. "I think they're kinda split on it. You guys have heard the procedure of it, and I'll be honest with you, I'm so over it now."

Lions fans have been up in arms since the end of the game after what has been perceived as the latest officiating blunder that has cost their team. Some have gone as far as suggest the team should stage some form of protest.

But that's not Campbell's style. He's not going to allow officiating to be an excuse for his club. And while Sunday's missed call might have cost the Lions a regular-season game, it doesn't come close to comparing to the blown pass interference call that sent the New Orleans Saints home in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams a couple years back, when Campbell was an assistant on the New Orleans staff.

"I get some of that," Campbell said when asked whether he, or someone in the organization, needed to make a bigger deal out of Detroit's woes with officiating. "That's not my (approach). Look, I came from a place where we didn't have some great calls go our way either, but we won a lot of games. I don't use that as an excuse. I mean, you make your own luck and we'll find our luck. We'll earn it and make it happen."Campbell said he'll continue to seek weekly clarification from the league on questionable calls, not to highlight that the officials made mistakes but to find areas where he can improve as a coach.

"Yeah and the ones where should this have been holding? Well, I know I'm going to get the, 'Yes, that should have been holding,'" Campbell said. "Each team will turn those in. That's not worth it. It's those ones where why would you pump the play clock here, why would that have been done? I don't understand that. Then when you get clarification one way or another, then at least that helps you moving down the road. I want to use it as not so much I told you you were wrong. I want it, moving forward, is there something that I missed or something that can help us down the road, more than anything."

I look forward to seeing how Campbell reacts next time Lions get jobbed by refs in a game deciding situation.

I get the points about making your own luck and every team gets jobbed and improving the team yada yada but the Lions seem to have more of these mind numbing blatant miscalls. Turning your cheek hasn't worked for the Lions in the past.

As to not making  excuses Campbell did make one regarding the timeout. He said he called it so that everyone would know what they needed to do on 4th down. But that didn't happen. One guy still didn't know what to do which resulted in the long completion.

Anyway just wanted to vent I think Campbell is is the best thing to happen to the Lions in a long time. I have this fantasy I suppose of Lions mgt for once saying that they are sick and tired and not going to take it anymore.

Giants win their first game...Jets going to OT...rooting hard for them. The more other ###### teams win the better for our draft position.
Jets, Giants & Colts win. Winless teams: Jags & Lions. Detroit might have better than a 1% chance of winning one before October's over, but today's performance doesn't exactly raise optimism.

Lions believe Romeo Okwara tore his Achilles tendon. If true that's a devastating injury for the defense.

Also, Frank Ragnow was also hurt and is expected to miss some games.

Listening to Campbell after the games..man he does not sound too sharp. Seems more like a special teams type of coach.

I really was hoping for success but is it going to be a very long road if it happens under Campbell.

Like how so?  I haven't listened to his post game press conferences

Romeo Okwara out for the year with a torn Achilles. Killer injury for an already terrible defense.
Going to be a long year.  Lions found another way to lose vs Bears and a rookie QB making his second start.

Encouraging thing was that if they had converted their red zone opportunities into points they would have been competitive if not ahead in the game.

Want to see improvement from their rookies, Benson and Julian Okwara to help us build into next year.

I don't think that matters because of the terrible QB class.  :(

That is SO Lions.
Plan B then. It's not like any rookie QB is going to transfer this team into an instant winner (see Trevor L).  If someone like that does emerge, draft him. Otherwise go with the best defensive player on the board. Kayvon Thibodeaux would be one that could help.

Thought it was an interesting decision that Bears took the ball first and did not defer. It worked really well for them. Bears jumped out on top of Lions right away. The Lions mangled their subsequent possession with the fumble snap and Bears scored  another TD to put the LIons in a pit.

Williams was running the ball well and it was too bad they went away from him. Lions running the ball is the best way to stay in games. Sewell and Swift's pass blocking was awful and Goff paid the price. Swift's snaps increased over Williams' in this game but I dont think it was a good thing. I think they would be better at a 50/50 pace. Williams is a better blocker and inside runner, Swift is more dynamic and a big play threat.

Frank Ragnow placed on IR, out a minimum of 3 weeks but reports say it will likely be longer. One of those 3 weeks the Lions play Aaron Donald and the Rams. Good luck with that. Another killer injury.

In addition, Penei Sewell was limited in practice because of an ankle injury. His status for this week is unknown.

It's rough being young and inexperienced and one of the least talented teams in the league. Now add one of the most injured teams.

The injuries are really stacking up this year. Two torn Achilles in Okudah and Okwara. Anyone else with Ok starting their sir name should look out. Not Ok man

Not much going right. Much of the talent that was left from the Quinn era is injured and the rookies are being brought along slowly. Sewell injured, perhaps may explain his poor showing vs Bears.

Could be a long day vs Vikes if Cook healthy.

With so many holes Holmes needs to be conserving draft choices and avoid his tendency to want to trade up for guys he likes.

So what. Did anyone seriously think they were making a playoff run this year? Every loss means better draft picks next year. Injuries happen. Use this as a season to play your depth and see what you have. There's a reason these guys got 5 and 6 year contracts.

Well quite. Aside from potential career ending injuries ( Okudah ), nothing really matters does it ? There’s a reason why I haven’t bothered watching more than  a single Lions game this season probably for the first time in over ten years.

It would be nice if we were terrible and injury ravaged when there may be a franchise altering level of QB as a reward at the end but can’t ever complain about having high draft picks and lots of them as well.

If the Lions had won one less game a couple years ago they might have Chase Young instead of Jeff O.

Lions play for high draft picks every year its the Lions Super Bowl. Even if they get a high draft choice it has to be the right one.

Its hard to watch the team or a game without being emotionally invested in its outcome. I could just go out and shovel snow every Sunday and turn on the NFL Draft in May.

Lions are not deliberately tanking like the Pistons and to establish a winning culture you have to show that you are able to win some games. Knew it was going to be a rough year but want to see progress on all levels.

They might as well have both RBs out there at the same time, with Swift split out. That way you have your 3 best skill position players on the field at the same time. It's not like they have some awesome #3 WR who needs to see the field on a regular basis. I've seen them do it, but maybe they should a little more.

Works for me.

One of the things that have hindered the Lions is not getting anything so far from either of their FA WR signings. Perriman was cut before season started and Williams hasn't played this year since week 1 injury from a dirty hit.

The #Lions are the 1st team in NFL history to lose twice in a season on 50-yard field goals on the final play of regulation, per ELIAS.

Setting the best kind of records as always.

When I told someone this past week that I was a Lions fan, they asked me if I was a sadist.

I don't know if Campbell is the guy who will turn this franchise around, and he's made plenty of mistakes, but it's nonetheless kind of amazing to think of the two 0-5 teams. No one is out yet on Campbell, but seemingly everyone has already given up on Meyer.

Not that I'm disagreeing -- in fact, that's exactly how I feel. I think it's largely a case of differing expectations going into the season.

Its my impression that except for the Green Bay game that the Lions have played better in the second half.

Thinking that Lions are making adjustments (probably more on defense) based on what happened in the first half which suggests good coaching and understanding. Its something you didn't see happening often if at all with Quinn/Pat.

Looking for silver linings.

It's a pretty depleted roster, and they lacked talent before all the injuries hit. I actually think DC and his staff are doing a credible job preparing a team that has some rather obvious limitations. Losing sucks, and the way they lost in Weeks 3 & 5 was especially painful. But on talent alone they have no business hanging with either the Ravens or the Vikings.

________________

speaking of injuries, sounds like Quintez Cephus may have a broken collarbone. these guys can't catch a break. we'll know more later today.

_______________

silver linings...silver linings...

  • ARSB had his best game. 5 of his 7 catches were for first downs.
  • Swift continues to have an extremely efficient season, he is one of the top receiving backs in the league. Looked explosive on that late TD run.
  • the defense is, IMO, playing over their heads. now it's a relative scale, at times they have been putrid. but on the whole I think Glenn is doing a pretty good job with a crappy hand. we've got UDFAs logging significant snaps in the defensive backfield, and we (as has been the case for the 2+ seasons) have one of the worst LB corps anywhere. the D line is getting. good pressure. we're terrible stopping the run though.
  • heckuva play by Reeves-Maybin to rip the ball away from Mattison with under two minutes left.
  • loved going for 2 instead of settling for OT. LFG, we can win this right here. great decision and kudos for Goff for finding KhaDarel Hodge - who had never practiced the play they called or run that specific route since joining the team. FWIW, Campbell told Goff before he went out for that last possession "we're going for 2 after we score."
_______________

When a company has a defective product, the CEO has to take the heat. Comes with the territory. Campbell is more about leadership than scheme, and he has deferred to Aaron Glenn twice in the last three weeks. Afterward he has defended the decision to rush only 3. I don't agree with the call in either game, I hate anytime we take our foot off the gas on offense or defense. But DC is doing the right thing with the media stuff. He has to have Glenn's back. I wish they would have handled the situation yesterday differently. We think it would have been better to rush 4 or even bring. a blitzer. IDK man, I'm a CPA, dafuq do I know. The whole thing stinks, I hate losing this way.

_______________

They're talking about trimming back the playbook to cut down on Goofy's turnovers. The offense is clicking pretty good as far as the RBs go and we have the worst WR room in the league. This is so frustrating. Goofy led all QBs in turnovers over the previous two seasons and is padding those stats this year. A simplified playbook isn't going to help him hold onto the ball better. Freaking teeny hands is the guy we're stuck with for at least two years. I honestly don't know what the answer is, but his turnovers are killing us.

_______________

Sewell can move back to RT when Decker comes back. He's been pretty awful the last few weeks. Had an excellent game versus Bosa Week 1 and hasn't matched it since. I think he's a really good player and it's just growing pains, but he has to play better.

_______________

We can't be too results oriented this seasons. We're gonna lose 13-15 games. But we are seeing a lot of fight and hustle. With a roster like this, that's about all you can hope for this year.
