2025 Detroit Lions: Game 1 Lions vs Packers. (9 Viewers)

just realized....

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be playing the Detroit Lions on Sunday in Detroit at 3pm.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be playing the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in Detroit at 7pm.
Red v blue and then blue v red
Luckily no creamsicle this time around.

Would imagine Tampa Bay will go with the pewter pants with white jerseys. 5-2 in that combo, only 2-2 in the all whites.

Detroit (Campbell) is very superstitious, they’ll wear the blueberries again. 6-0 with the Honolulu blue on blue with blue socks.

Hopefully next season the go with the new blue helmet with the all blues. Ditch the dirty greys forever!

I always loved the metallic silver numbers on their uniforms in the '80s. Is it true they had to ditch them because opponents found it distracting?

Yeah I think next year they have big changes to the uniform (I think, not sure but thought they announced that) and the blue helmets will match up better.

Does anyone know if the new alt helmet will become the new full time helmet? With the retro logo...

I like the alt color rush, still have a Kerryon and Slay Jr in the pajama gray, but seems to be a minority opinion.

One thing I have never bought is a road white. We're going to two games next year, one in Detroit and one away.

Def need more swag.

Sheesh, when I was growing up, even though I loved the team, I would cringe when I would see guys wearing Lions jackets or license plate holders or any Lions man cave stuff. Lions gear seemed kind of lame. Dude....do you ever travel? You know this is a poverty franchise? Low key loyalty, alright, that's me, but going all in when you know they're never gonna change? Just stick to jerseys bc it's just sad you identify with failure.

Probably why I gravitated to U of M and Bo Schembechler, at least I was supporting one winner.

But since the kids came along in the late 90s, I've been Lions only, not enough time to follow all the sports I did when it was just me. Grateful we saw two amazing World Series teams, three NBA Finals champs, four Stanley Cups, Michigan football + basketball. Always had our fair share of titles. But the Lions were a big ole hole in the heart lol.

8 straight wins wearing the blueberries the last two years.

Think they went undefeated in the icy whites (white on white) last year and were 4-0 in them this year until the Greek tragedy in Dallas.

EDIT: also haven't lost in the color rush grays; so all three same color combos are undefeated

Their other four losses, they were wearing mix and match - Blue top gray pants, white top blue pants, et al.

Not saying there's anything to any of that but if it makes players doubt avoid it, if it gives them confidence roll with it.

Yea the Bucs did this shtick in 2021 - something like 5 straight playoff wins in the white tops and pewter pants. And then Bowles gambled on a stupid blitz with 50 seconds left and Stafford hit Kupp for 50 yards and the clothing didn’t matter.

Ford Field officially topped out at 133.6 decibels during the Lions first playoff win in over 30 years.

This would place Ford Field as the 4th Loudest NFL Stadium in recorded history.
  1. Arrowhead Stadium, 2014: 142.2 db
  2. Lumen Field, 2013: 137.6 db
  3. Caesar’s Superdome, 2013: 136.6 db
  4. Ford Field, 2024: 133.6 db

Hard to believe those numbers. 9 dB is like an order of magnitude more sound power. 6 dB in SPL corresponds to a doubling of sound power. 142 dB is louder than most jet engines. I am guessing they were measuring a peak SPL level versus an average/rms SPL measurement today.

MCDC presser
  • Can’t think about what we’ve “accomplished”, we got 3 more, have to just lock in
  • Bucs are a better team than when we faced them, but so are we
  • TB is kind of similar, started off good, hit a rough patch, now they’re one of the hottest teams
  • Bowles keeps them steady, never panics, they’re playing with a lot of confidence
  • There’s things we do we’ll never go away from but the sledgehammer on the steel door ain’t gonna work. They got Vita Vea, we want to be smart but we’re also not going to drop back 50 times.
  • Our defense has to show up
  • All the reliable guys have to be reliable: Monty & Gibbs, Saint, LaPorta. This is a championship defense & we need everybody involved.
  • Talked about the role of having three mental health specialists available to both the players & coaches.
  • LaPorta was impressive, wasn’t 100% but he contributed, & feeling a lot better this week. If we thought he could have a setback we wouldn’t have put him out there.
  • Had a funny story about going to scout an OU TE and Baker came out in flip flops. But he’s the ultimate teammate, great leadership.
  • Kerby Joseph - he’s not a dirty player but we do hit people.
  • We spend a lot of time going over situational football, especially with the young players. “If so-and-so does this what are you going to do.” Get them thinking about it so when the moment comes in game they know what to do.

This is kind of cool.

Remember the guy they showed crying at the end of the Wild Card game?

Channel 7 tracked him down

His dad was an iron worker who worked on the construction of Ford Field. He passed away when he was 14. Since he never knew his dad as an adult, not too many things trigger him. But going to Lions games with his pops was the best memories he had, and when they started kneeling it out, he knew his dad was celebrating along with he and his brother.

UPDATE

Alex Anzalone reached out to the two brothers. Chopped it up with them and gave them two tickets from his allotment.

For the weird moon people.....

Waxing Gibbus this Sunday

HOWEVER

It is only our Nemesis on Thanksgiving; the Lions are actually 3-1 on waxing gibbous days.

They even won their first NFC North championship on a waxing gibbous day.

Bucs RT Goedeke vs. Huthison Week 6

Fire up Chips!

So happy to see how much progress Luke has made this year after a rough stretch his rookie year. Goedeke + Wirfs are every bit as good as Decked & Sewell, if not better. Your tackles are 25 and 24, set it & forget it for the rest of the decade.

Luke played alongside opposite LT Bernhard Raimann (Colts) at CMU; he’s also in his 2nd year, made the PFF 2023 All-Breakout team.

Great game if you're a fan of line play!

I’m a huge OL nerd, I can’t see coverages until I get the All 22 midweek so I always focus on blocking schemes, how often we run gap counter or duo or double tap to the second level. Pass pro protection gets really complex, I love the chess match.

I never watch the ball, I’lll catch it on the replay.

Ceedy Duce running his chops again about Mayfield. Wish he would wait until after the games.

Love it. He gets in other teams heads.

ETA - I get you, @Da Guru (#blueskimask) - but that’s what you get with CJGJ. He ain’t changing and Campbell lets his guys be themselves. Authenticity is a huge part of their ethos.

All this talk of moons and uniforms is superstitious nonsense. Everyone knows the only relevant factor is whether I’m wearing my lucky Lions cap, which I forgot to put on before the Dallas game but kept on throughout the wildcard, even though by the end I was lying in bed in my boxers.

You’re welcome

POV walkabout video

Walk up to the Stadium from over by LCA, walking in between the stadiums, about 20 minutes of the pregame atmosphere, warmups, the Jared chants, booing #9, Penei firing up the team, Chad Smith drumming, the light show, Dan Miller calls, Eminem, MCDC videos, player introductions.

So happy @kutta made the pilgrimage, guess the rest of us have to settle for living vicariously.

For the second consecutive week it’s a battle of former overall #1 picks. If you asked people to rank the 8 remaining QBs, Goff and Mayfield would be 7th & 8th on most lists.
  1. Mahomes
  2. LJax
  3. Allen
  4. Stroud
  5. Purdy
  6. Love
  7. Goff
  8. Mayfield
That’s gotta be close to consensus, right?

Depends. If we are talking this year I would put Lamar at the top and Goff behind Stroud and even with Purdy.

Awesome.

Hard to see the field intensity when watching on TV. This gives you a little more insight.

Years ago my boss at Ford who was the regional VP got field passes for a game against the Bears and asked me if I wanted to go. Hell yes!!

At the time both the Lions and Bears were no good but we were able to stand about 15 yards down from where the players are. There were 8 of us total but we did not know the other people. Before the game they came over giving us instructions. Basically it was don`t get closer than 3 yards to the sidelines, and most importantly "NEVER turn your back to the field when they play is live, start moving back if the play is coming toward you"

On TV the game looks physical, but when you are down on the field it is much faster and more violent. The players never quit pursuing when chasing a play. These vids give us a better feel of the actual game.

What I love about that play is the Rams rolled their coverage right into the primary and Jared stays so calm; almost 3 seconds before he pulls the trigger bc he had to wait on Sam to come across. Easy peasy, they were torching #97 (Hoect) all night long.

Bucs are going to be a tougher challenge. They match up well.

Ram players have told former Ram QB Baker Mayfield that Ford Field was the loudest stadium they ever have played in.

So just how loud was Ford Field on Sunday? It hit 133.6 decibels, which broke the previous record for the Lions' home stadium by over 5 decibels, according to MLive.

Ford Field officially topped out at 133.6 decibels for the 24-23 playoff thriller on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams, according to the team, smashing the old stadium record of 127.6. That’s equivalant to the sound of a 747 jet engine at takeoff, according to the Center for Disease Control.
So yeah, it was pretty deafening in that building on Sunday.

Jared Goff's splits vs. the blitz @FantasyPtsData

When Goff is not blitzed:
Completing 70.8% of his passes (+4.7% above expectation) for 7.9 YPA and a 108.6 passer rating

Goff’s 108.6 rating – when he’s not blitzed – ranks 2nd-best behind Brock Purdy (115).

When blitzed:
Completing 61.5% of his throws (-2.0% below expected) for 7.1 YPA and a 78.4 rating (30th-of-41 QBs)

** Over their last 10 games, Tampa Bay is blitzing their opponents on 47% of their pass plays

Jared Goff is the perfect weapon to thwart Bucs defense

The classic narrative on Goff is that he crumbles under pressure and that he just can't handle it. That's just not true, In fact, it's pretty far from the truth. Goff is actually one of the leagues best passers against the blitz.

Per Pro Football Focus, Goff was blitzed on 255 of his drop backs this season. That's the third most in the NFL. He didn't crumble. He completed 64.6% of his passes for 1,885 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. That, 1,885 yards is the most from any quarterback against the blitz. Only Brock Purdy threw more touchdowns and only Jordan Love complete more passes.

Ok, you might be drawn to those six interceptions. That's not the most by the way. That would be Jalen Hurts with eight. At first glance I assumed that the six interceptions came mostly in both games against the Bears. That's not the case. They're pretty spread out. Three before the bye and three after. With the exception of one, they all had the same thing in common. Goff was behind a broken offensive line.

Which brings me to the next point. The Lions have their fully healthy offensive line for this game. Goff's had it for just eight games this season and here's where the real damage can be done. Goff was blitzed on 47.4% of his drop backs in those eight games and he completed 70.9% of his passes for 1,270 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception. That's all league leading stats behind the blitz. Except for the interception obviously.

The Bucs threw a lot of blitzes his way in Week 6. They blitzed Goff on 41% of his drop backs that day. He threw for 171 yards and two touchdowns against it. It's worth noting that the Lions were missing a ton of players on offense that day too.

We'll see what happens on Sunday when the Bucs come into Ford Field. There's a solid chance that they're going to load up some blitzes. The Bucs blitzed the third most in the NFL this season. Let's see how Jared Goff and the Lions handle it.
