2025 Detroit Lions: 3-1 Lions roll over Browns (95 Viewers)

The Raiders season is falling apart yet again. I’ve always rooted for the Lions as my “2nd team” but it’s time for me to follow them more closely to really enjoy the ride this year. I do have Goff on one of my superflex dynasty rosters, so there’s that. ;)
Thanks for having me over. Your place looks great.
Good to have you on board. One favor though. I know he's managing a knee issue, but can you get Brock Bowers a TD for my fantasy team?

Tell him to put on the other teams jersey and I guarantee Geno finds several times.
lol. Geno plus the high-school level Oline is ruining it for everyone. I’ll put in a call though and see what I can do.

In exchange if y’all could turn the Lions great wins into fantasy stats for Goff, that would be great.

I get it. It is great to express an opinion that Brad has not done enough to win a Super Bowl, but it is terrible to point out what the Lions long term philosophy is and why the Lions are not making the sexy quick-fix high dollar moves.

Everyone GM ever has done something wrong. That comes with having to make judgements on hundreds of players. But damn, the job Brad has done is undeniably absolutely incredible. To nitpick and criticize him and tell him how to do his job is beyomd silly. Brad has complete insight into the roster, understands the ins and outs of the salary cap, who they want to extend, on speed dial to every GM, a great eye for college prospects and manuevering the draft...I honestly have no idea what more the man can do prove himself. He is the GM that Lions fans have dreamed of.

I am not a big fan of viewing what the Lions have as a narrow window. They have locked up key players like Goff, Penei, and St. through 2028 and 2029. Holmes is not trying to go all in any single year. He is building a foundation of a team that is more of a dynasty.

I am not a big fan of building a dynasty before you have even won your first Super Bowl. Do that first and then worry about the dynasty.

I am a huge fan of everything Holmes/Campbell/Sheila have done and see some have a hard time ridding themselves if the SOL mentality.
What are you talking about? To be a dynasty in the NFL you need to win three super bowls in about a decade. The Lions have zero. Win one and then work on the dynasty.
The chances of winning 1 go up significantly if youre in the playoffs every year ....

Very fair, but when you refuse to go get anyone in free agency to help your weak spots because 2027 is coming hurts your chances just as much. I would rather be Eagles or Rams the last few years where they went for and rebuilt on the fly after going for it then just be pretty good all of the time.

There was not a free agent signing last year who would have filled multiple holes in the DL, LB, and CB positions. The Lions were 15-2 last year. That is better than pretty good. The last part of the season the Lions defense was virtually amputated. They had more than enough talent to win barring the onslaught of injuries. As far as Jamo, in 3 years WR salaries will be $10 million higher and the cap will be $60 million plus higher.

You really don't think Brad and Dan know who and when they are going to extend and have a complete road map to signing all their foundational pieces?

I have 1000x more faith in what Brad and Dan have planned for the team than the 20 clickbait wannabe GMs who hype every possible defensive free agent.

And the Rams and Eagle absolutely did not rebuild on the fly. They have been some of the best drafting teams for a long while with lots of talent build from within.

They absolutely rebuilt on the fly, drafting is part of rebuilding and there where a ton of free agent pass rushers they could have brought in and helped. Cheap ones and expensive.

Lions were the best team in the NFL last year. I have no doubt about it. The D just got brutalized with injuries. Eagles don't win if they had the same level of injuries either.

I disagree teams that turns the ball over five times in a playoff game rarely wins and you guys act like there wasn't a handful of of other teams that weren't 15 -2 and 14 and 3 in the league.

The playoff game plays out very differently if the Lions weren't missing a dozen defensive players

You don't know that and you don't know if they beat an Eagles team that was dominant. You just want to believe that.

Chiefs 15-2
Eagles 14-3
Vikings 14-3

Lions were clearly better than the Vikings. The others were debatable.

We do know the game would have played out different if Hutch, McNeil, Carlton Davis were playing. Doesn’t mean a guarantee the Lions won but the game would have looked different. And of course I don’t know the Lions beat the Eagles either. It’s obviously all my opinion. I mean we don’t now for sure that the 2024 Eagles could have beat the Titans. They didn’t play, maybe the Titans would have had their number. We don’t know.

Yeah, but they didn't play because one team was didn't make the postseason, so there is no scenario where the Titans beat the Eagles, or the Lions or the Commanders or the Chiefs. It is very disingenuous to even use that as an example. Injuries happen and we don't know if that game plays out differently, Buffalo ran up and down on the Lions and at the start of the game they were only missing Hutch, the Lions turned it over five times against the Texans and only won because the Texans had a horrible offense.

Why do Lion fans do this? If anyone disagrees with the organization at all then your rebuttal the worst possible situation will happen.

Can't manipulate the salary cap or we will become the Saints, except dozens of teams do it that aren't the Saints.

Can't trade our picks or we will be the Browns, except the Rams and 49ers have done it and here they are still in the superbowl mix.

Can't take players that aren't boyscouts or we will become the Raiders, except the Eagles and Chiefs do it and win super bowls.

Can't sign any big free agents or we will be the Jets and lose our players, but other teams let good players walk and replace them and still compete.

The Lions have a great front office, if they are so awesome you should trust them to take swings on free agents and suspect guys and if it doesn't work they will figure it out.

The Eagles drafted Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson, then they said opps and drafted Smith and traded for Brown, the Chiefs told Tyreek to find a trade when he wanted too much money, the Rams didn't have a first round pick for like six years, won a super bowl had a down year and now are back, the 49ers traded three firsts for a qb that never started an entire season for them and they still went to two superbowls, the Broncos traded a ton for Russell Wilson and now they are back in the mix.

I didn’t say playoffs, just meant head to head. If the Falcons could beat the Eagles why not the Titans? Anything can happen in a single game. The best team can beat the worst team. A team can turn the ball over 5 times and still win. I have my opinion. Obviously it’s subjective and there is no way to prove any hypothetical NFL scenario out.

Current line of -10.5 and total of 49.5 suggests something around a 30-20 win for the Lions. It "should" be an easy Lions win but a couple specific matchups are not favorable. Decker may miss the game or be less than 100%, going against Trey Henderson on the blind side. Aldo Chase and Tee vs a banged up CB group. I don't think either will be enough for Cinci to win but it could keep the game closer than I would prefer.

I agree with this, I know the Bengals have looked very bad, but even bad teams don't play poorly every week in the NFL. This feels like an pretty easy win, but not embarrassing like the Bengals have been the last two weeks.
