2025 Footballguys Bowl Shark Pool Dedicated Leagues Sign-up! (2 Viewers)

I see Joe already weighed in and said the team is willing to do the extra work for trades. I don't really care either way, but that's a lot of extra work. I mean, I have one league I commish and trades are tehsuck especially if it doesn't favor me. This falls in the be careful what you wish for category. Appreciate the consideration though, it would add a fun dimension. but man, can't even begin to imagine the kind of complaints you will get over it during the season.

I agree and it's enough to make me not want to be involved. Trading in something like this is a really really bad idea. Headache City.
Just sign up for one of the Shark Pool leagues and hope for the best. Please don't bail because of trading.
It's a deal breaker
I finished 6th overall last year and upon further reflection, I think I'll sit this year out if the trading is allowed. Just not worth the time investment when the playing field is even further tilted. Now maybe FBG comes up with way to may trading equitable within the Bowl and I change my stance, but I honestly don't see a path short of chaining @Joey Wright to a computer for 5 months.

Come on dudes! The folks in here are probably all going to be in only 8 of the hundreds of leagues. If you are in a league with 11 other SP regulars, do you think a trade is going to be that lopsided? No way! Sure, if trades are allowed, I expect very lopsided trades to go through, but making the playoffs shouldn't change for the 8 or so SP leagues. I just wanna play against a bunch of SP regulars, because I never have. I wanna kick the butts of guys like you and @barackdhouse. Who cares about the finals?

The 6th place finish kind of spoiled me. Last year I played it kind of safe to have a respectable showing. Goal this year is overall title or bust.

The other issue is that time is limited. The return would have to exceed the value of time spent tinkering on the Subscriber contest. I enjoy that contest far more than anything except chasing a 3-peat for Footballguys in the Interboard Challenge.

Just clarifying: It says Sleeper e-mail. You want the actual e-mail we signed up for sleeper with and not just the Sleeper account name?

I've been down this road before and not worth my time. I don't think it's gonna be a problem though my guess is the survey will slam the door shut on trading. Appropriately.

On the "who cares about the finals" line - is that schtick or are you serious? I can't tell. I would never want to play in a league with someone who doesn't actually care about trying to win. You know why? Because I already have. Many times. It isn't a new experience nor is it one I'm interested in. I don't *think* you're saying that but it does kind of read that way. And if there are many people in the contest that don't care, then I'm even less interested.

It's ok if we disagree about trading but my position is that trading in these FBG leagues would be a gigantic lack of judgement by the contest designers and I'm kind of shocked it's even being discussed. I really don't think you understand how bad this can be, and I am not trying to be dramatic or difficult. It just really is a dealbreaker for me and I think it should be for you or anybody in this thread.

This isn't about "c'mon guys don't be downers about this we're trying to have fun" - this is about "you're trying to build something that is destined to fail and fail big". Again it's ok if we disagree but try not to make it about me and the attitude you perceive. I want to play. Really.

I am 100% against trading in this contest, as is literally every SP regular who has responded. I am also 100% in favor of playing against FBG shark poolers. My home leagues suck! If we lose a bunch of SP regulars because trading is allowed, that will blow! If trading is allowed, the SP leagues don't stand a chance in the finals, because stupid lopsided trades won't happen. The first place team will come from the crappiest league where insane trades go unchecked.

If trading is allowed, can I switch over and not be a part of the SP leagues?

Or...We could organize and use the SP leagues to send mega teams to the finals in the name of the SP.

Each SP league chooses one team to load up with studs via lopsided trades.

It would be awesome!!!!

Right?

See why trades are a bad idea...?

@Joe Bryant
Not a single person in the the Shark Pool is for trading in this format, including your very own @Joey Wright who is running this thing. How many more negative comments do you need to squash trading? Sure, people wanted it last year, but they didn't take into account how easily lopsided leagues would get without constant oversight. Once again, NOT A SINGLE PERSON IN THE SHARK POOL IS IN FAVOR OF TRADING, NONE, NADA! Read this thread.

I voted no trading. In this format, if I started 0-4 and had a ton of injuries, I would be inclined to take massive risk and home run swings to try to save the season. Usually these risks do not pay off but you have nothing to lose. Meanwhile, whomever receives the trade may end up with a monster team. The chances of all that are low but in this format, it is going to be tried numerous times. People know this, so now even more trading and risks take place. I’d avoid the mess.

Last year was fun - everyone in the league was around 0.500 late in the season. Oh, and thanks for doing this - it is my only redraft league these days. Might be worthwhile to get ADP off the drafts and maybe an article or live forum discussion on team construction.

I've signed up to compete in the leagues again, but didn't get a survey. And, when I look on the Sleeper app, the field for "Email" is blank. I've tried to add an email address several times, but the code that Sleeper is supposed to send never arrives to the email in question (and I've tried multiple emails). That said, hopefully I'm on the list.

For what it's worth, I agree with the sentiment that trades in this format can do far more harm than good.

Thanks. I've read the thread. Honestly, a little insulting assume I'm not reading the thread.

And I'm reading the survey.

We're working really hard to bring this contest to everyone (including doing the work to make a special exception for the Shark Pool) and make it as good as we can.

I'm not sure how much more clear I can be than saying I'll take a second look at this.

Thanks. We'll take a look at the trades.

@Joey Wright has been not in favor but I've been in favor. Primarily because we had tons of people asking for them as trading is a huge part of the fun. And some of our primary competitors allow them in their contests.

I think it's a big distinction that this isn't a high stakes NFFC league with thousands of dollars on the line. This is a fun league.

But I hear folks and we'll take a second look.

It's ok. It's just disappointing to be pouring this much work and effort into this and be told to "read the thread" as if I haven't been.

We've received good feedback here and good feedback on the survey. We'll have an answer here soon.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the feedback here and thanks to all those that helped with the survey.

For 2025, we will go back to the 2024 rule and will NOT allow trades.

Our only thought on allowing them was we all know personally that trading is a huge part of what makes fantasy football fun. And lots of people asked for it after the 2024 season.

We were willing to take on the extra workload (and it's a lot) to figure a way to allow and then overlook trades and we thought the extra work would be worth the benefit for the player. Of course the high stakes leagues where collusion has a financial gain don't allow them. I was thinking in a more fun league like this one, trades would be a positive the same way they are in a local league.

I was wrong there.

That's great news for us as it's tons easier for us to not allow trades.

@Joey Wright will be updating the rules page soon.

Again, we will NOT allow trades for the Footballguys Bowl. Thanks to everyone for the discussion and help here.

I appreciate the sentiment behind this, truly. I’m certain it was done with fun in mind, and the very best of intentions.

Many of us have played in free leagues, way back in the early days of FF. It is based on that experience that I came to understand that regardless of stakes (or lack thereof) people will try to cheat. It’s a sad, cynical way to view the world, and I would not have that view unless I’d seen it firsthand.

For a couple of seasons I played in low stakes CBS FBB leagues. $50 or something. And every league I played in, we had at least one instance of collusion so bad that both teams involved were locked by CBS, the owners booted. And that was low stakes.

But I don’t want that cynicism to come off as any sort of negative towards you or FBG for wanting to include trades - again, I believe it was an idea with the best of intentions.

It’s just a bummer that people are the way they are and that’s why we can’t have nice things.

I see league threads here and not in AC forum and am wondering was this open for all or only a random few? I haven't heard anything. I understand there's a big following here and that would be lots of work. This is a sincere question.

A bunch of Shark Poolers asked to be in the same leagues with each other, so @Joey Wright posted an early sign-up link in this thread's original post. There's still time to do it. Come on in!

I thought for now we were just selecting draft dates and times we were available. Has anyone been told they have a confirmed draft date and time yet?

in. Thank you for bringing this back! Maybe this is the year I don’t serve as BE Joe punching bag to the rest of y’all.
