Randy MossFor every Spillane the is a Javon Walker, Trent Brown, Larry Brown, Kerry Collins, or Jimmy Garopollo.Serious question, has the signing of a high priced FA ever worked out for the Raiders?
Nope. Every one of the Raider FA signings that did work out was value oriented. Bob Spillane belongs on this list. Hopefully Elandon Roberts and/or Eric Stokes will as well...
But I think it's too early to call Wilkins a total loss. Dude was playing just fine before he got hurt. And in theory at least, Jones Fracture isn't typically a career-wrecking injury. Hopefully whatever went wrong in this case can be rehabbed.![]()
Don't forget DeAngelo Hall....
Done? When was he fresh?Dorsett is.... interesting. I was somewhat intrigued the first time we brought him in. Hoping he was healthy and could add some depth.
He is now 32 and there is now a lot of evidence that he is done. The last time he did anything was 2022.
There has to be others out there that would be a better shot to fight for a roster spot.
ANTONIO!!!!!!These guys are all camp fodder IMO. They're here to be punching bags for the actual competitors - and/or to take the place of those who weren't getting with the program. Wasting time and energy on them here is about the same as getting worked up (again) about Randy and Antonio.![]()
They already had punching bags which was the undrafted rookies they cut to make room for him. These moves are done to see if you can add depth, special teams and maybe get lucky with someone that is a little more. I much rather have kept some undrafted rookie to let him fight it out than Dorsett. These guys are all camp fodder IMO. Exactly. Dorsett has 23 ST snaps in 10 seasons. He hasn't returned a kick or punt since 2015.They already had punching bags which was the undrafted rookies they cut to make room for him. I know the receiving corps is thin but, not that thin. Heck I'd rather they give Keelan Doss another look.

And if you really just want a warm body then why not keep the UFA on?
Man, if they actually hit on Thornton...Being reported 1st team WR's in 11 personel are consistently Meyer, Tucker and Thornton.

per Tashan Reed:
three-man race between Dont’e Thornton, Tre Tucker and Jack Bech. Thornton stood out the most among the group during OTAs. He’s just different physically — he’s 6 feet 4 and has blazing speed — and is working on the nuances of route running and increasing his knowledge of Kelly’s scheme.
There will be lawyers!Oh crap!!! Just got a sleeper alert that the raiders are releasing Wilkins “Voiding remaining $35.2 million of his guaranteed money left on his contract”

"The move will create a cap charge of $17.925 million in 2025, with another $55.025 million hitting the cap in 2026.
That said, there's already talk that the team believes Wilkins didn't comply with his rehab plan. That could potentially avoid $8 million in 2025 salary, and another $25.25 million in 2026 salary. Obviously, however, there would be a legal fight over whether any effort to void his guarantees is justified."
Just saw that. My god, imagine losing 35 million dollars for being lazy.Oh crap!!! Just got a sleeper alert that the raiders are releasing Wilkins “Voiding remaining $35.2 million of his guaranteed money left on his contract”

I don't think they would've cut him unless they had reason to believe they could apply the voids of the 2nd paragraph. Much of the reporting has been vague. Seems they may have voided his guarantees last month and then cut him today when he filed a grievance over those voids. Not sure exactly, but something tells me that video he posted of himself dancing to Boyz 2 Men did not help his cause and may even have become evidence they plan to use against him in any arbitration.
Either way, it seems it was time to move on. Sux, but better to cut bait now rather than keep throwing good money/cap at bad. Spy/Pete aren't ****ing around. You're either with the plan or see ya.
need to see a step or two in the right direction
Agreed. I also don't view the Wilkins signing as a bad move. It filled a big need and he was producing exactly the way the team hoped. Things got derailed by an unfortunate injury and, that's really all we know at this point.need to see a step or two in the right direction
I would make the case that we've seen a bunch of proper direction steps this offseason, including cutting bait with Wilkins *IF* they are able to void his guarantees.
That said, all those things are on paper and in the ether. Need to back it up with actual progress on the field this season. We'll see, but I am judging this new regime by what they do, not what was before they arrived.
BUH-BYEIs there any way out of this grossly over paid contract???
$110 million
The Raiders signed Wilkins to a massive four-year, $110 million free-agent contract last offseason, but it has aged poorly thus far. He played just five games last season, and now his status for the 2025 season is up in the air.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “the Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins’ contract last month.” The Raiders’ decision is reportedly “due to how Wilkins treated the rehab from his foot injury he suffered last season.” He signed a four-year, $110 million contract with the team last offseason, but appeared in just five games before suffering the season-ending injury. He totaled 14 tackles, nine quarterback pressures and two sacks while active. Wilkins reportedly filed a grievance with the NFLPA today. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport adds that the team asked Wilkins to undergo surgery to correct the injury but Wilkins declined.Wonder if the Raiders tried to get Wilkins to use cryotherapy? Maybe same clinic AB went to?
You thinking cutting Jimmy "Noddle Arm" G was a cash flow decision? Really? No, seriously, really?I can’t help but think that cutting Wilkinson is evidence that Mork is cash strapped. Yes, I know he has that big, new stadium that is supposedly a cash cow. If that is the case why has he sold over 25% of the team the past few years?
If you look at how the team has reacted to some of the high priced contracts through that lens, things seem to make sense. Signing, then cutting Garopollo in one season. Botching Carr’s release and receiving zero compensation. Now Wilkinson.
Granted they signed Max to a big deal. But maybe that pushed Mork’s budget to the limit(?)
If Wilkinson signs elsewhere and tears it up, that will just add fuel to my hypothesis.
