2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Happy trails Derek - one a Raider always a Raider ☠ (14 Viewers)

You guys see that Jonathan Martin says he never believed he was bullied by Richie Incognito? This came out and few months ago but just came across my attention now.

Maybe it's just me but he comes across like a real a hole in this piece.

"But I don't have any hard feelings towards anybody from that situation anymore," he says, "because Richie Incognito and Mike Pouncey already peaked. They've already achieved the most success they're going to achieve in their life. And I'm just getting started."

He doesn't have any hard feelings? People got fired, suspended, etc. because of him for something he has n ow changed his story about. That whole quote is not a good look.
I have some sympathy for him as we know he has mental health issues but that also does not give you a free ride to ruin other people's lives. I think Incognito lost out on around $10 million in earnings because of this from another article I saw. Richie wasn't the only one impacted as well and all because he didn't want to play football anymore and couldn't just tell people that so when his camp (mother apparently) pushed a bully narrative (my guess is he said something to his mom as that being why he didn't want to play football and she pushed on it like anyone would and he came up with Richie as the abuser) he didn't stop them. Then to say this stuff on top of it? And more worried about people remembering him for being the accuser in this? Yea... that is just bad.
it's wild how people can read an article and come out with wildly different opinions.

"Things happened in that locker room. His teammates called him names and said racist things to his face. They made misogynistic comments. On the spectrum of behavior in football locker rooms, it was extreme"

He keeps the recording in his phone. He places it on the desk and hits play.

It's Incognito's voice, April 6, 2013.

"Hey, wassup, you half-n----- piece of s---. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. I'll s--- in your f---ing mouth. I'm going to slap your f---ing mouth, I'm going to slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F--- you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you."

Incognito at the time was a piece of trash, maybe he needed this event to change and evolve as a human or maybe he still is a piece of trash

Why are we wasting breath on incognito? Dude was/is a POS. Who cares

Fair point. There's plenty of exciting stuff about the current team to discuss... Like the 6'5" 215 4.3 WR with actual ball catching ability they stole in Rd 4, after stealing his counterpart CB in Rd 3. Here's a nice lil analysis with all-22 film of the former...

Here the similar analysis for the 6'3" 4.3 CB...

Jeanty and Bech look like instant impact players, but Porter and Thornton could be right there with them soon. These two look like unpolished diamonds who simply lacked development - Porter due to a mid-career position switch and Thornton due to playing in a gimmick offense. Unlike Al's HWS picks, these guys actually display football skills and neither was taken with the 1.6 pick. :) Both fill huge needs on the team, so they may get thrown into the fire to learn on the job.

Man, hard not to daydream about what adding a DeSean Jackson to this offense might mean

You have Carroll, Harbaugh, Payton, and all in the same division, and Reid all in the same division. 3 of which who won Super Bowls as HC, the other a natty, and coached a team to the SB. Will be a nasty division.

It's a far cry from "Antonio grew up a Raider fan and drove an Impala, so he should get another year!".

Then there's this other viral clip making rounds about how they accidentally picked the wrong Byron Young...
I actually said this in this/other thread moments after they announced it.

That Josh McDonald's hire was an eye-roller, head-scratcher, nut-kicker from go.

Thankfully, Pete seems to be the 180 degree opposite person...

Only somewhat kidding about Clowney.

It is difficult to understand why a guy with his obvious talent can't seem to put it all together consistently but, wherever he lands this will be his seventh team in twelve seasons.

Actually it will be his seventh team in eight years since his rookie deal expired. Clearly, after his rookie deal expired, there is something about him that teams don't think is worth keeping around.

Seems like a pass for a young team that needs veteran leaders who love football not, and this is just my guess, veterans who know how to chase a paycheck.

IMO he's someone you bring in to add some pass rush if you have a contending team who could use a pass rush boost.

I still remember that play of his from college that had everyone excited that he was the next LT.

That single play, against Michigan IIRC (but I'm old and don't remember to good).valulted him to the #1 overall pick.

To be fair it was a weaker draft at the top with Clowney, Greg Robinson, Blake Bortles and Sammy Watkins taken before him.

Khalil, Mike Evans or, maybe, Jake Matthews should have been #1 overall in that draft.

Yes, it was Xichigan. But the kid was the #1 overall pick the moment he came into college. He was a terror from day one, and it was the most hype I've ever seen from a high schooler - and I witnessed Andy Katzenmoyer and Terrelle Pryor firsthand.

Personally I'd love to have him. Maxx is the leader there and would keep the tone consistent. Nothing wrong with bringing in productive vets that want a check - as long as they aren't negative influences. Clowney may be a merc but he's never had a whiff of trouble or attitude about him, by all accounts he's a professional (probably to a fault actually) so if Maxx signs off on it I'm in.

In a different class, we'd be chatting more about our small school OT.

I meant to post about him. I made a blip of a comment when he was picked and forgot to come back to him. He's a small school guy obviously but as you see he was dominant. Throw guys out of the club type of dominant. He's got a wrestling background and it shows, he's actually literally tossing guys around on the field. Again, it's W&M level competition, he won't be doing that in the NFL, but that kind of handwork and leverage translates. He was the first official invite offered to the Senior Bowl and was getting a lot of 1st round chatter up until then but he missed the week rehabbing.

Agreed. I think he would be a fine addition. Also, when talking about an edge player people think pass rush, but Clowney is good against the run too.

He certainly was with the Ravens. Opposing teams were running away from him because he set a fierce edge, which made the DC's job a lot easier.

IMO the Raiders (and others) kept passing on Shede b/c of stuff like this...

For the Raiders, in particular, I think they decided the distraction he'd bring into the complex wasn't worth having him there, regardless of discounted draft cost.

Don't get me wrong... Him partying this way doesn't make him a bad guy or even a likely bust. BUT, especially given his draft drama, this guy's going to be under the tightest microscope - everything he does off field will be scrutinized to an unfair degree. I am guessing Pete wanted nothing to do with that noise in the first year of rebuilding and establishing the culture of this team.

Nobody wants that circus.

Does he start the year on the 53? And when does he get robbed?

Imagine this guy in Vegas???

Being a merc doesn't mean you are a problem at all and I never stated he was. My point in bringing that up is that Carroll/Spytek seem very targeted in their acquisitions, either in FA or draft for a particular type of player. Carroll is HUGE on culture and I think you can see that they are looking for guys who are not just about the money- that want to be a part of something and build something. You can very much see that reflected in the draft selections. You have guys that stayed at programs like Boise St, William and Mary, Montana St and North Dakota St that very easily could have gone to the transfer portal and got paid by an SEC or Big Ten team more than they did where they were. Sure, you love Jeanty for much more than staying at Boise St but you love him even more because he stayed- it shows his character and what he brings to an organizations culture. I am not saying they wouldn't sign a merc but I think that it is part of the evaluation and something that would very much be a negative in considering bringing someone on. I don't see us going after Clowney.

There's just too many fun dudes. WE AIN'T EVEN TALKING ABOUT JEANTY!!
gotta nick name that guy ''Pancakes'', wow
I liked the violence nature. Similar to JPJ. But there were a LOT of penalties in that reel.
So what you are saying is that he was born to be a Raider.

Don’t get me wrong. I dig the pick.

But many of the dudes in that montage are 1/2 his size, and the clip where he rides the red shirted dude across the field and then drives him into the ground, it looks like he’s holding him the entire time.
(Like Da Raiders referred to above)

But really really liking this draft class. Almost seemed professional ;)

Maxx watched that and read your comment and said "I wish I had those kind of penalties on me instead of guys getting free rides hanging on my neck and not being called."

I got tired of the stupid bad boy crap 15 years ago. The lack of penalties in the AP era was wonderful. The bad boy swagger crap only works when you’re winning.

Good to see you didn't get tired of your sense of humor along that time period too. :sadbanana:

There's a spot for a rotational DE, especially because we don't know the new staff's feeling on Tyree, but there's like 6 guys in the Clowney range in free agency now. Judon, Z'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Carl Lawson.

Clowney was 53% snap share, 5 sacks, 20 tackles.... more a name than anything else at this point

My bad. This freakin team has worn out my last nerve. Not sure it’s there anymore.

Knock on wood if you’re with me. 🤮

Chubb still out there. Have to think having him around mentoring Jeanty would be worth bringing him in for a year at least

From what I’ve read from this week FAs won’t count against the comp pick formula
