Yet it still is subjective…..we all know that. The NCAA rule is barrel of bat crossing the front hip.It ended up being a critical call because he did execute the pitch and I have seen less checks called strikes. When I saw it live I didn't think he went. It was close but right on the border in real time. In slow motion you could tell he went but at regular speed it was iffy and I could see it go either way.Still sticks out as the biggest blown call. It was absolutely a strike (showed full intent to swing and did not hold up) and the game was over.
I know you know but these happen dozens of times throughout a game. Of course this one is gonna get scrutiny but I just don't see it as egregious of a missed call as others. Yes it ends the game but at full speed it's a coin flip to me. Still had him down with two strikes and didn't execute the next pitch. Sucks but there is more to a game then one call.
Yes it’s a judgement call. There is no actual imaginary line of where the bat needs to cross.
I just hate seeing a season end because of a clear intent to swing on a blown third strike call.
But that’s baseball.
FSU baseball. Just incredible year after year. 3 run lead in the 9th with 2 outs and still lost.Beavers with a sweet comeback. Again.
Nice, beavers.Beavers with a sweet comeback. Again.
Looking forward to tonights game. Should be a good one.FSU baseball. Just incredible year after year. 3 run lead in the 9th with 2 outs and still lost.Beavers with a sweet comeback. Again.

Bracket 2:
UCLA (Big 10) vs.
Murray State (MVC)
Arkansas (SEC) vs.

Hard to not root for the Racers or Chanticleers. OSU currently being independent would be a good story also.
Goss is a great atmosphere to watch some high level baseball for sure.Never been to a baseball game in Corvallis, but it sure looks like a great time. The stadium sits right on campus, right near the train tracks so you get great visuals, audibles, all the vibes. When the weather is nice, that's got to be an outstanding evening of fun.
Go Beavs!
I was there for the epic 2007 matchup between the Beavers and the Eaters (UC Irvine). The shirts being sold that year were awesome for the semi-final matchup between the two. Dang I really need to get back but I am sure it is a much different atmosphere being away from Rosenblatt. I was lucky enough to go three times (2001, 2007, and 2009) but haven't been to the new stadium.Nice, beavers.Beavers with a sweet comeback. Again.

It's definitely a lot more corporate than it used to be at the Blat. Hasn't almost every sport gone this way? Still some great tailgating and atmosphere outside around the stadium though. I should make it to at least 2 games this year.haven't been to the new stadium.
The best part of the Blat was parking in someone yard a block or two from the stadium for $10 a game. Going back in between games for a sandwich and some beers and then hit up the 2nd game. We parked at the same spot every year we went and it was awesome. Some shade from the trees and got to know a local over the years because we parked in her backyard. She even put out a bucket with some water for a pisser so we didn't have to bother her to use the house. Great times.Still some great tailgating and atmosphere outside around the stadium
In reality it's 64 teams in the tournament. They just whittle down elsewhere before they get to the elite 8 in Omaha. I don't see that format changing.Anyone surprised that there hasn't been any talks about expanding the # of Omaha teams >8 ?
Yep, I understand there is already 64 teams. In reality it's 64 teams in the tournament. They just whittle down elsewhere before they get to the elite 8 in Omaha. I don't see that format changing.Anyone surprised that there hasn't been any talks about expanding the # of Omaha teams >8 ?
Question to the entire group.................we all have seen:
NCAACFP expand from 2 teams --> to BCS 4 teams --> to 12 teams
NCAA: expanded from 64 to 68 teams
but the CWShas remained at 8 teams
Anyone surprised that there hasn't been any talks about expanding the # of Omaha teams >8 ?
I think that is limited by the number of games you can have a day and how you need more days in between games otherwise you burn too much pitching and then games get ugly. But i just figured someone would try to get more teams under the Omaha spotlight (more $$$, etc)
that's certainly a good point about the amount of pitching teams would need for the men's teams.I think that is limited by the number of games you can have a day and how you need more days in between games otherwise you burn too much pitching and then games get ugly.
I think 8 teams is right but I wish they went back to the true double elimination format.
But Softball has always been like that. That is not a new concept and it really is the great equalizer for softball. I think that is not a bad thing. Worse is too many HR's and too close of bases. I would like them to move the fences back 25-30' and the bases by 5-10'.Meanwhile, I think the WCWSis being "Hurt" by the fact that you can ride ONLY 1 pitcher for an entire tournament without ever having to change pitchers (Yes, I'm looking at you Texas Tech $$$)
More impressive was 19 K's and was able to pitch 9 innings (119 pitches)No-hitter by Arkansas pitcher in elimination game - first no-no in 65 years in CWS.
And just missed perfection by hitting a batter in the 8th. No walks.More impressive was 19 K's and was able to pitch 9 inningsNo-hitter by Arkansas pitcher in elimination game - first no-no in 65 years in CWS.
FSU baseball will never win a national title. Too much pressure on the players now.FSU: Another Charlie Brown heartache ending of a season (Lucy pulling the
away at the last moment)
My group of friends + wives travelled to Durham, NC to see the ACC tournament
And some of them travelled to Tallahassee to attend the S. Regional
We had all the plans in place to go to Omaha this year ..........but OSU had other plans
FSU definitely choked it away - and OSU took advantage of it like they should
I think yourWorse is softballWCWS: you can ride ONLY 1 pitcher for an entire tourn without ever having to chg

Fully agree that the bases and fences should be moved back for college - the women have obviously gotten stronger, faster and more athletic over the years. For infield plays, the fielders have to field it perfectly and get the ball out lightning fast to have any chance of getting the out. But it will certainly take a sea change by the authorities to make such a sizable move of the fences and bases.I think yourWorse is softballWCWS: you can ride ONLY 1 pitcher for an entire tourn without ever having to chg

point has some merit to it. Their game has evolved over time & could be due for more adjustments.
If you’ve ever played in a Men’s softball league with 60’ bases & then played it at 70’ bases you know there is a difference to the pitching & fielding.
but with today’s $$ invested, I’m not so sure anyone would have the guts to propose a change.
I agree it would be tough to get a change but softball is not averse to doing this. When pitching became way to dominate they moved the rubber from 40' to 43'. That happened in 1988 to try and increase offense. I would say it worked.Fully agree that the bases and fences should be moved back for college - the women have obviously gotten stronger, faster and more athletic over the years. As for pitching, the fact you can ride one pitcher is just part of the sport. Throwing the ball underhand is a lot less taxing on the shoulder compared to overhand pitching in baseball.
It would be more the equivalent of the Elite 8. Omaha is not the final four. It is the Elite 8.Honestly if a college basketball team made 24 final fours without winning one it’s all anybody would talk about.
Right but a cws trip is the culmination of the season. Programs hang banners for that. Nobody really measures who makes the final four. I think my point is still valid. Hell if a team made 24 elite eights without a title it’s all people would talk about come that time of year.It would be more the equivalent of the Elite 8. Omaha is not the final four. It is the Elite 8.Honestly if a college basketball team made 24 final fours without winning one it’s all anybody would talk about.
Because they typically schedule two games a day and since they are on the same field there is one day game and one night game. The only go to prime time when they go to the final best 2 of 3 series and usually take a few days to let pitching staffs align to start the game. Why in the world are they playing this in the middle of the day?
What a game. With a couple of days off Coastal and Tigers can align their aces. First game should be f'in awesome. I rarely watch college baseball until Omaha. It's really an underrated sports spectacle. When my Gauchos (UC Santa Barbara) went a bunch of years ago, I had to hold myself back from buying a plane ticket out for the weekend. You know that sports bar in Omaha that tallies all of the Jello shots that every college's fans order during the CWS? Yeah, we lapped everyone by a country mile.Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good. . .
What a disaster of a last inning for Arkansas. Wow. So many opportunities to finish the game. Just a bunch of bonehead moves and bad breaks by the defense.Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good. . .

LSU was 3x the next highest, Arkansas. That's nuts.
