Buddy in sports talk here was telling me some crazy #### they can't talk about on he radio due to sources and whatnot. Mid 6 figures to a pair of brothers... Freese prob gone this week and likely looking at 4-8yr show cause... 2yr bowl ban... scholarships... all kinds of goodies rumored to be coming. Haven't been watching twitter today since talking so no idea what has or hasn't come to a head.

As with all things NCAA, believe when you see it.
Thats the Nkemdiche brothers.

Lots of talk around the fact that OM didn't fully disclose all the allegations they received yesterday.  Lots of rumors been around about the fact that Tunsil's mom had a house in Oxford and Treadwell had access to a boosters private jet.

I think its going to be the modern day version of the death penalty.

Worst kept secret in college football?  I think so.

No one should be surprised that Ole Miss will be punished worse than Penn State did a few years ago.

Refresh my memory, but this stuff is way worse than the USC stuff, isn't it?  If we're talking about $13,000 here, $250,000 there, private jets, housing, burner phones and complete non compliance from the head coach/everyone else, then how is this anything short of the death penalty?

I think it's worse that USC, yes.

I think I said it here a while back...This is going to be referred to as the modern day death penalty.

Their network appointed Freeze to be their coach because they knew he would turn a blind eye to everything they were doing behind the scenes.  Hell, they even got a special exception from the NCAA to hire a "recruiting specialist" and he basically worked as their bag man on staff.  The reason they used was one of their coaches had a handicapped son and he couldn't recruit because of it.

I remember reading a lot time ago that the Nkemdiches were supposed to go to Clemson, but Ole Miss swooped in and stole them (with phat checks)

What do you mean by "modern day" death penalty?

So how much did you guys give him?
$80k  :excited:

Thats the rumor, I don't know if its true or not.  I know every school provides some type of impermissible benefits, but I'm pretty sure we run a tight ship.  We caught wind of Will Redmond getting a deal on a used Mustang a few years ago from a booster.  It was something like he got it for 15% less than book value (We're talking about a $5,000 car here), we suspended him for 2 years and fired the coach that knew about it/recruited him immediately.

We also opted out of the Cam Newton Sweepstakes.

I'm glad we did too, its just not worth it for a school like Miss State.  I'd rather maintain the 7-8 win seasons and maybe have the stars align and have a 10 win season.

Ole Miss is about to be set back for 10+ years and for what? A Sugar bowl win over a barley ranked OK State?

I assume he means the strongest penalties they will actually hand out these days. They aren't going to SMU anybody anymore. They aren't even going to hand out no-TV punishments like UF got in the 80s. But I suspect the Rebels are going to slammed at least as hard as USC.

No one knows what the penalty will actually be, but this new penalty matrix thing the NCAA set forth a few years ago lays it out.   For one Level 1 violation the NCAA suggests a 25-50% scholarship reduction.  Ole Miss has 15 Level 1 violations.

Just my guess, Freeze gets an 8 year show cause, 3 year bowl ban, and 40-45 scholarships are gone over a 4-5 year period.

That's should do it.  What about current players?  Do you think they will they be able to transfer out without waiting out a year like PSU?

I don't remember anything about the older brother, but Robert was committed to Clemson. He went to Grayson HS where his head coach Mickey Conn, was Dabo's former college roommate.  We also took Wayne Gallman who ended up being very good for us and Nate Schuesler who was a solid backup QB from the same HS.

No idea, I don't think they'll go in front of the committee until the end of the summer to finalize their penalties.  You know there has to be some unrest with a lot of those players.

I did hear Shea Patterson has met with Colorado.

I don't know what the rules about letting kids transfer are.  Being able to follow the whole ordeal pretty closely Freeze and Bjork flat out lied to the recruits of their 2016 class, which was a really good class.  They tried to cover up their first NOA they got a week before signing day that year, then people caught wind of it and they said it was all womens hoops and track (which was a lie).  Then right after signing day they actually announced that the investigation was completely over.

I don't see how the NCAA doesn't penalize them even more for that.

I remember that.  Deontay Anderson reached out to LSU around that time and Freeze gave him these assurances about it all being over.  Everyone in the world knew he was lying, but somehow he was able to convince Anderson and others that it was nothing.  That's why I asked because I think those kids should be able to leave without penalty.

Just how talented that 2016 class was has been over shadowed by all of this.  AJ Brown, Shea Patterson, Myles Hartsfleld, Greg Little...If those guys get released OM is struggling big time even before they get their penalties.

This is a different level than anyone else does I'm sure.
Nah. FSU has given a player giant bags of money. Alabama has. LSU has, etc. Ole Miss' problem was how quick they were about rising up the rankings and they beat the wrong schools for the right kids, which sent the antennas up.

There is no morality here for any fan of any major team. Your school is paying players a lot of side money and also cheating on their classes for them. Every single one, except maybe like Stanford. Period.

What? No Silas Redd penalty?

Yep.  Everyone remembers, over the last several years, thinking how the hell did Ole Miss (Hugh Freeze) manage to get all these top players all of the sudden.  They wanted to compete with LSU and Bama but they flew a little too close to the sun.

The supposed audio tape of Lewis is dangerous for a lot of schools I imagine.  Ole Miss rats out MSU with the tape, MSU rats out Arkansas, Arkansas rats out Auburn, Auburn rats out Alabama, Alabama rats out Tennessee.  Everyone gets screwed, except LSU.  Everyone leaves them alone, since they screwed  themselves with Coach O.

If the NCAA gave Lewis immunity in order to make their case against OM, there is no way the NCAA comes back down on Miss State.  The NCAA would never get another player to talk, cheating would get out of control.

Plus, I really don't think OM has this audio tape.  It would have come out by now.  Even if it does, audio doesn't mean a thing, there has to be hard evidence of a paper trail for the NCAA to pursue it.  Every year there is a top recruit out there flashing a wad of cash on Instagram and nothing ever comes of it.  I don't think having audio of a recruits mother saying they want cash is any more damning than a 17 yo flashing $5k on instagram.

And do you really think OM wants all future recruits to know that they are secretly recording their conversations?

I am 100% sure Alabama didn't offer Nkemdiche $250K.  Don't confuse what I said to mean I think we're above everyone else.  But it's a package deal for a kid at a school, most of which he gets being legal, and Ole Miss has very little to offer outside cash.

Well no. That was particularly dumb.

I figure most schools pay in the 12-20 range. Another thing Ole Miss did is try to go above the salary cap, as spencer hall said.

They were really careless too.  How does the NCAA find out about $2K worth or free merch?

I guess I'm just being naive, but I still don't think there are as many instances of paying players as most seem to think. I mean we're finding out about Ole Miss, but everyone saw that one coming.  I guess my reasoning is that I can't see that many 17/18 year old kids not spilling it all over social media. Teenagers share ####### everything today on instagram and twitter.  If Joe Prospect comes home from a visit with an extra $50k, that's going on instagram immediately.  I just think statistically speaking, we'd see a ton more come out like the Tunsil texts.

They do..  All kind of examples of kids flashing cash, posing in front of their brand new $50,000 cars after committing.

There are literally hundreds of kids getting handfuls of cash every single year. Don't be naive.

I tend to agree with you.  I am sure it happens but I don't believe it happens at most D 1 schools.  Fans that are cool with it happening as long as it helps their team win are the ones that disgust me.

If you don't think your top-40 program pays players, then you're honestly a fool. I mean no offense, it's just true.

Clemson didn't build their program up from basically mid-level to a national title level through only the power of prayer, Jesus and hard work.

Payton Pritchard signed with the Ducks to play hoops.  Next day he was driving around in a new Jeep.  They don't even try to hide it, man.

I've probably posted this a dozen times but it's worth it again.

Meet the Bag Man

There are jokes about kids getting cars, but that's actually pretty easy. We all have dealerships all over. You practically have to nowadays, anyway, just for the coaches. Think about it. Most schools, all the football, basketball, and baseball coaches and their wives are getting some kind of vehicle for free as part of their contract. Then they're turning them in every three years or so. That's a fleet right there. You need a lot of guys with dealerships, and you need them in different towns. Then getting a clean title on a member of the family is pretty easy."

as I said, if you don't believe this you are naive AF

"I really love it here at GIANT SOUTHERN SCHOOL but I think I am going to take a visit to OTHER GIANT SOUTHERN SCHOOL just to see what it's like!"

[bag man makes a drop]

"I have decided to cancel my trip to OTHER GIANT SOUTHERN SCHOOL and re-affirm my commitment to GIANT SOUTHERN SCHOOL"

:lmao:  I mean, come on. How much of a fanboy do you have to be to not think this happens.
I went to a small D3 school to play baseball and our ####ty football team who played in stadiums smaller than a lot of high school programs would break NCAA rules in terms of practice and "private" scholarships.

If that crap hole of a team in D3 broke rules I will guaranty every single D1 program breaks rules it is just a matter of degree.

See, I feel the same way about steroids in sports.  I think it is still way way way underreported.  My little fraternity brother and close friend pitched for a DIII school.  He used steroids.  He said all the guys on the team would experiment with them.  Not ONE of these guys had a future in sports and yet, here they were, dosing up on juice to play DIII baseball.

Never heard that before about Pritchard.  If it happens at Oregon they do a good job of hiding it IMO.  I would be very disappointed to find out it happens.

My kids were a little disappointed when they found out the Easter Bunny and Santa aren't real - you learn to live with it.
