I guess I'm dumb. Why is this so genius?
I guess you missed the post-script:

" As it happens, most of the top recruits in FLA & GA are vacationing in Rome at the same time. Coach Harbaugh was shocked upon hearing this, but later admitted he knew most of the vacationing 'kids' claim Italian ancestry dating back to 200 AD".

Its more funny. After the SEC and ACC went ape #### that he held spring practice in FLA and satellite camps all over the country, the NCAA told him he couldn't take trips during spring break and limited satellite camps. So he is saying, "#### it," and doing an even bigger trip to Italy.

Will be hard to see how the other coaches will complain, but I'm sure they will find something.

Plus, as a recruit, I'd like a free trip to Italy one day.
I think it's great the kids get go. I wish all young people got to travel and see more of the world.

I can't imagine schools are going to want to foot the bill to send ~150 people to exotic European locations, and rent facilities, very often though. It's gotta be like 2 mil doesn't it?

Michigan is absolutely swimming in money. They don't even know what to spend it on.

Also I do agree it's a great recruiting angle. These coaches get the players their favorite freaking cookie cake. Trip to Italy can't be laughed off.

Boy, this Willie Taggart sure is going along swimmingly....*nervous cough* :oldunsure:
No kidding, Taggert era has gotten off to an interesting start.  Hires an unbelievable good coaching staff.  Conditioning coach proceeds to run a workout where 3 kids get hospitalized.  A week later the co-offensive coordinator gets a DUI.  Glad Taggert fired his ###.

On the plus side I love his energy and recruiting efforts.  I never thought Oregon would have a shot at a top 20 class this year with Helfrich being fired but it is possible.   I think Oregon is in good shape.

Edit to add after reading some recent recruiting news I would be ecstatic to be top 25.  Reading DUI really put a damper on recruits visiting this weekend.

Sankey told reporters Friday if a school wanted to take its players on educational or culture-enriching trips it should feel free to do so, but coaches shouldn’t be allowed to hold practices during that time. He said he saw a clear difference between Michigan’s spring break trip to Florida and the European exhibition tours that many NCAA basketball teams routinely take during the summer.

Trust me, it's better that you got rid of Reaves now than later.

Time to fire up the 2017 thread?

Hawaii at UMass has been moved to "Week Zero" ... season kicks off Aug. 26.

Still waiting to hear which of the major networks will get the rights to this one.

He's kind of a dirtball, from what I gather.  Had some sketchy behavior at UTenn where he was pimping out coeds to call and coax recruits when he was under Layne Kiffin, who is his ex-BIL....Reaves is Layla's brother.

But what really jumps out at you is his hair, a comb-over with that sort of half-halo thing about the back that some men get. It is … not the most flattering look. It is extremely unexpected to see on a movie star.

So where did it come from?

“My dad was always around a lot of guys who looked like Kenny,” McConaughey said in an interview. “They were great consumers of life — whatever they could eat, drink, smoke, kiss and slobber on, they did it.”

He pauses. “But you know where it really came from? I haven’t told anyone else this. I went to the hair lady, said, ‘It’s this guy’s hair,’ and handed her a picture of Dana Holgorsen,” McConaughey said, laughing uproariously.

Gold, starring Dana Holgorsen’s hair, hits theaters Friday

Rain drop. Drop top. Bag man shows up and kids flip flop.

Oklahoma LB commit Jacob Phillips flips to LSU

I know every fan base has their morons, but do they get that upset when someone flips to them from another school?   Kid wanted to play on a great defense, so he picked LSU.   Thank god he did, because LSU needed MLBs badly, and he's as good as it gets.

Ikard is definitely not a moron. I don't think his tweet is meant to be taken that seriously, but who knows. Personally I couldn't care less about a kid flipping. People who get way into recruiting are kind of weird in my experience.

I think in this age of social media and hyper-communication, commits followed by decommits are going to be more and more common, especially with kids committing so darn early.  Ohio State has seen Cam Akers commit and decommit as well as Tyjon Lindsey, but then of course they benefited from the same thing with Baron Browning.

I enjoy the recruiting boards this time of the year, but you are dead on about that.  Very weird people indeed.

Yep

Lane looks

a) drunk

b) unenthused

c) 20 pounds overweight

d) ready to end it all

this wasn't a multiple choice.

So you can get ahead of your friends on Twitter on this one...

There's an offensive lineman from Lawrence KS named Kobe Buffalomeat who just signed with Illinois State.

That's his real name.  He's Native American, Cheyenne tribe.

I know a little about the Corrdarian situation since he was a Clemson commit. Apparently there are big concerns that his HS had been fabricating grades for him and others.

@General Malaise 75% coming to Eugene for the Nebraska game on September 9. What's up?
Wow, first Shuke coming in for Radiohead and now this?  You coming with wife?  I've got a buyer for those Nebraska tickets lined up but if you want them, I'll tell him they are spoken for.  Hit me up on email and we can discuss this more.  You'd have a blast out here.

The legend of Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy continues to grow.

Beginning last summer, Gundy grew out a mullet over the course of the entire season.

Wednesday morning, he discussed Oklahoma State's signing day class while sipping out of a coffee mug with the words "Big Daddy."

Gundy said his son Gage gave him the mug, after Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph referred to Gundy as "Big Daddy" during the Valero Alamo Bowl.

Wednesday, Gundy also gave an update on his mullet, which was looking much shorter at the back than it did last season.

“Well, I cut three inches off during recruiting,” Gundy said, “because it looked really floppy. It’s kind of embarrassing a little bit going into those homes. I didn’t know how people would take it. But the repercussions of it have been negative.”

The mother of Oklahoma State signee J.D. King, a running back out of Fitzgerald, Georgia, offered advice for Gundy during the family’s visit to Stillwater, Oklahoma.

"She said, 'Coach, if I was you, I wouldn’t have cut your hair. That was your swag,’”

It's always about the laundry with these types of things.  Deep down, i think most of us would agree on that, at least we should.  College athletes are flawed, like all college men  What I didn't read is any of the Sooner peeps here saying Mixon isn't a bag of ####.  No one has defended his character at all.  I'm not going to entertain what this girl might have said, because imo it's irrelevant.  Putting hands on a woman like that has very, very few justifications and unless what she said is "I have a bomb and I'm going to use it right now" then you find a way to not throw hands.  He's a good football player, because of that his punishment isn't as extreme as if we were a normal person.  This isn't some profundity that we are all just now realizing.  Nevertheless, he paid and is still paying for his mistake.

I think there is a break from college to pros to where he may slide a bit in the draft because of the video, but he won't be Ray Rice'd.  He isn't "property" of the NFL yet, so there will be some leniency for him.
Well NFL isn't letting Mixon go to the combine.  I'm no mixon apologist but seems ####ty the league wants to screw with him instead of give him a chance. Goodell could bring him in and put him on a zero tolerance policy with domestic violence but screwing with him after he went through the courts as an 18 year old seems over the top.
