I’m bored and gonna write my take on how the team looks after 2 preseason games, which no one will read.
This team is not going to be as dominant as last year. The schedule is tougher and they’ve lost some really solid players. But, if they don’t have an injury regression back to the mean (big if) they should repeat as NFCE champs and go deep in the playoffs.
Offense: The Offense should be as dominant as last year. Almost all the starters are back. Patullo has been involved in the Offense since Nick’s been here, so even though “NeW C0oRdiN4t0r for Jalen”, things should look very similar.
QBs: Jalen’s not a top 10 QB.

OK, sure, rank him where you want, dude is a baller. And a winner. Tanner McKee is already getting fitted for a gold jacket. McCord will be QB3 and get a chance to develop in the QB factory.
RB: Say-KWAAAAN! They can’t and won’t feed Say-2k as much as last year. Funky stats showing a huge drop-off after a season like he had last year. If he stays healthy (big if) he’ll still be a huge part if the game. AJ Dillon is a great back-up, will feature late in games when they are running clock. Shipley is a talented, electric back that makes big plays in spite of his lack of speed.
WRs: AJ, DeVonta and Dotson are great. Johnny Wilson looks better in preseason, actually fighting for balls and playing big, finally. Great blocker. Darius Cooper, the undrafted rookie has shown out in camp. He will make the team, and be WR3 next year when Dotson’s gone. Ainias Smith has scored 2 TDs in pre-season. I think he’ll make the team because of ST play, if they decide to keep 6 WRs.
TEs: Goedert and a bunch of guys. Calcaterra is a lock, but still can’t block. My favorite at TE3 is EJ Jenkins, but I think Bryant will be the guy they keep.
OL: I’m gonna lump them all together, because what needs to be said? They’re arguably the best Oline in football. Steen will be ok, but is the weakest link. Biggest issue is depth, especially with Lane being older, Landon always missing time and having junkyard knees and Jurgy’s back issues. Backups are a mess of cast-offs and re-treads. A couple injuries here would be disastrous.
Defense: This unit is gonna fall off quite a bit. You can’t lose as many quality starters as they did and be as dominant as they were. The question is: Are they still top 10? top 15?
DT: Dominant. JC continues to devlop as one of the best in the league. Jordan Davis is in ‘best shape of his life szn’, should stay on the field more as a 3-down guy. Moro Ojomo will be a household name after this season. Ty Robinson looks very promising as a oass rusher. Gabe Hall is a quality guy who will rotate in. BY has shown some good things.
EDGE: I’m nervous about this unit. I love Nolan Smith. However, he is still young and developing. Can he continue the amazing production he showed late season and dominating the playoffs. I think so, but it’s early to annoint him.
re: Jalyx, take everything about Nolan and multiply by 100. He looked great late, but he is so raw. Does he hold up with a huge snap count? The rest of the guys are JAGs and question marks. Uche, Ojulari, Patrick Johnson probably make the team. Okoronkwo and Mathis? who knows. No depth, and some question marks.
ILBs: Dominant. Zach Baun should only be better 2nd year in the system. Jihaad looks like a steal. Back from injury early, playing very well in camp. Trotter Jr. has great instincts and Monden looks like an awesome prospect. Nice to see strong LBs in midnight green.
Safety: Reed is solid. Losing CJGJ hurts, don’t love his personality, but loved his game. Sidney Brown is not a starter. He is great at pinning his ears back and running downhill, but he is undisciplined and not very good in coverage. Mukuba could be solid. I hope he has a DeJean like development arc this season. The 2 turnovers this week against CLE definitely gave him an edge to start. Or at least levelled the field after the injury time missed.
CB: Q is a bona fide stud shutdown CB. Reports out of camp are he is even better than last year. Talk of him travelling with team’s best WRs. Coop is aalso a bona fide stud. I hope they don’t get too cute using him as a Swiss Army knife, and take away how damn good he is at slot CB. Mac McWilliams looks really good in limited reps, and has some versatility. I see him with an expanded role late in the season.
CB2 is a mess.
Kelee Ringo is too inconsistent. Great plays, followed by mind-blowingly bad decisions and crappy tackling. Tight hips and poor change of direction.
Adoree Jackson is who he has been the last several years. He looked decent in TEN early in his career, but especially now, he is JAG. Should not be a starter and if he makes the team, it says more about lack of confidence in Ringo.
Jakorian Bennett will probably be the starter. Athletic freak with amazing speed. Unfortunately, I think he is a smaller version of Ringo. Tight hips, poor change of direction, and occassional poor decision-making. He had a decent PBU against CLE, but 2 poor plays right before that.
I don’t know if any really decent FA CBs are available. Gilmore? Asante Jr? Maybe Jak Bennett will turn into a decent enough CB. But, if the pass rush isn’t absolutely smothering this year, I could see a lot of Jonathan Gannon-level frustration with middling QBs tearing up the secondary.
Overall, I have a lot of faith in Vic. If the Birds avoid injury, they will go deep again this year.
TL;DR The Eagles should be good, barring injuries. But there are some question marks with depth and the secondary will struggle.
