2 key things about the trade:
- Miami is taking on $6.6M of his salary, Eagles take the remaining $500k

- The 3rd round pick is our own, which will be pretty late in the round; Eagles are keeping the 3rd rounder they got from the Jets, which will be earlier in the round.

Yep and if we receive a 3 for Milton Williams it’s basically like moving back a few spots

Incredible. We get a guy for 500k rest of season

The salary is definitely a bargain but the 3rd rounder, even a late one, is still a pretty big asset. That MIA was willing to essentially pay $6M for it speaks to that. Phillips' injury history also played a part in MIA having to take on the salary risk, too, if they wanted a 3rd.
Howie's only given up a 3rd straight-up for a player once before, and it was similar circumstances:
2018, coming off a SB win, gave up a 2019 3rd rounder (wound up being pick 88: Cody Barton) for Golden Tate, who was on the last year of his contract. Didn't really have the impact we hoped, but we did get a 2020 4th round comp pick when he signed with NYG, which Howie turned into 4 picks by trading back a few times: Shaun Bradley, Quez, Casey Toohill, and Kenny Gainwell.
Phillips turning into a comp pick is no guarantee (his next contract might not qualify, especially if he does nothing with us or gets hurt again; or, we might cancel out the comp pick with a FA signing), but would be a nice way to further offset what we gave up.
All in all, solid move.
