IMO it is mistake to think any player does not care, even in a friendly, as almost every player is desperate to make the final roster.
Probably the wrong way to describe it. Perhaps they took it more as a work out then a meaningful match. Yes they all want to show and make sure they make the roster, but they didn't look sharp, full of energy and desire. Just a run out...

So there really isn't a Group of Death. A couple of real easy groups though (Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Argentina, and Portugal).
some of the 3rd place teams advancing take a bit of the life out of things but nothing we can do about that
I do think our chances of advancing as 3rd took a hit (and Mexico/Canada). We don't have an "easy" game per se; whereas it would take an absolute howler of a tournament for Spain, Portugal or Belgium not to advance.

So I won't argue with anyone who wants to claim it was fixed:

* The US hit the absolute dream draw of Australia. Not only were they the weakest in Pot 2 they are a team the US matches up with very very well

* The US avoided Norway (this was low odds any way but it was the one team no one wanted from Pot 3)

* The US avoided the Italy playoff path

Of course none of this means crap once the games start but fun to think about now.
