2nd Round RB targets and Strategy (1 Viewer)

All are welcome but generally looking for 12 team .5 PPR strategy.  Please note your leagues format when replying.

RBs to consider in round 2:

Dalvin Cook (concerns over Murray PT)

Devonta Freeman (concussions history, timeshare)

Jordan Howard (Bear offense, not a 3 down back)

Joe Mixon (concerns over o line, has no history of NFL production)

Who would you target?  Where have you seen these players being drafted?  Should other people be considered?  What round have you seen Collins and Drake going?

I guess it depends where in round two.  At the begining of round two I usually have preffered one of the top WR's or Gordon or Fournette if they fall.

Mid Round 2 I don't hate Freeman, but would take Gronk over him.

End of Round 2, I like Howard the best and pair him with Collins in the early 3rd.

2nd is where there are some tasty WR1- Julio, Thomas, Allen, Adams. I’d prefer one of those before the RBs. If all are gone I would prefer Freeman and Howard although I’m not as crazy about them in PPR formats.

Collins, Drake now going late 3rd rd in 12 team redrafts.  I like Mixon, but damn that offense was junk last year.  Warming up to J. Howard big time.  Dalvin Cook all day if Murray doesn't get goal line carries, but, but, but we don't know.

Had my draft last night.

Yahoo work league. 12 teams. 1/2/2/1/1 non-QB flex. PPR. Fairly standard PPR scoring.

1st round - 9 RBs (me, at 1.01, with Gurley)

2nd round - McCaffrey (2.01), Cook (2.08) and Freeman (2.12, me)

3rd round - Howard (3.06)

Note:  at 4.12, since it was really good value, I took Lamar Miller.

My strategy was to have 3 RBs in the first 5 picks as these guys sluff RBs and then always suffer for it. The QBs are no great value as so many score well and the same for WRs.

This.

I didn't see much of a difference between grabbing one of the RBs listed in the OP and grabbing a guy like Collins in the mid-3rd. AND I loved the look of my roster when I grabbed one of the top 10 WRs in the middle of round 2 instead of going RB.

For the record, in my 12 team, 1/2 PPR draft 2 days ago, I went Kamara, KAllen, ACollins, GTate, which I prefer over possibly going Kamara, Howard|Mixon, Diggs|Baldwin|Theilen|Fitz|Landry, GTate.

Some of you have gotten to part of the decision I have been weighing.

Let's make an assumption of the 7th pick (just cause it's in the middle and a little better than the 6th in round 2) plus Kamara was the round 1 pick.

So round 2:  do you go with a guy like D Adams or AJ Green or Freeman, Mixon, Howard?

I know on the face of it, you take WR but thinking ahead on the draft are you better to take WR or RB in round 2?

Could someone who already drafted and went RB-WR post their first 4 picks and likely what would have happened if they went RB-RB-WR-X?  Please also list what pick you had.

Cook & D Freeman are worth considering in the 2nd, or McCaffrey if he's there. I wouldn't take Howard or Mixon there in 0.5 PPR - Howard doesn't catch enough passes, Mixon hasn't put it together yet and this would be betting a lot on him taking a step up.

Though I'm generally higher on WRs than RBs in the early 2nd (Thomas, Allen, Adams) and Gronk in the mid 2nd.

I don’t think you can go wrong with the Howard/Collins duo. Insane value for adp
I swear I just answered this same question a day ago? Must have been a different thread.

Anyway, I agree with this. Once McCaffrey and Cook are gone these are really the only two I like at their price point until round 5 or so.

Does anybody else take into account volatility? Every year, the rankings I see basically have a very high correlation to last year's finishing positions, yet based on the records I've been tracking, since 2003 an average of 7 RBs from the previous year's top 10 don't make it back the following year.

So, if we assume one of them is Ingram, due to his suspension, and another is McCoy, based on the consensus that the Bills offense is diabolical, that means it's likely that five of Gurley, Bell, Hunt, Kamara, Gordon, Fournette, Ellington and Howard won't feature in this year's top 10.

So, is the shark move to try and predict which ones won't make it back, then make your targets those you think will be back? Just a thought.

I was 8 and went McCaffrey, Hill, Hilton, Goodwin. I feel like 3/4 were the rounds I was least excited for. No one I really loved. I like Goodwin but was hoping to wait until 5 to get him.

Cook was the only RB I would have taken over Hill but I have Kamara as a keeper so needed WR depth more.

I don't think you can pass on players cause you don;t think they will be back - but you can reach a little on next year's replacement.

Gurley, Gordon, Fournette, Gordon may all suffer from over usage

seemingly far better WR talent in 2nd round then ther is RB talent..in other words, I'm taking Kennan Allen, Julio Jones,M. Thomas,Mike Evans over any of the h-hum RBs like McCoy, Howard, Freeman, etc..

and who says you HAVE to go RB in the 2nd why don't you go for Gronk, or A. Rodgers?! why pick a RB just becuase somehow you feel you must pick a RB?  you're ekind of selling your team short here by limiting your opportunities..

go for a high scoring player who has a SIGNIFICANT statistical advantage over other players at his, position ( i.e., Gronk, Rodgers, etc).
