Are you still averaging under 10 moves a day? If you are, and if you're incapable of at least double that per day, then honestly I really wish you'd quit the tornament now. It's not for you. This tournament is 6 rounds, and should average about 6 weeks at most, a week per game. If it goes on longer people get bored and lose interest. You may think I'm being a pain in the ###, but there's no other way to run this thing properly.

Let me know what you decide.

OK, I'll quit since this is super serious business.

Go spend some time with your family.

I agree with Shuke, Tim. It's the holidays. Most people understand that things are going to go a bit slower due to travel and family obligations etc.

20 moves per day over the holidays may not be feasible for many. It would suck to get kicked out of the tourney after two rounds when I need to drive my family back down to Dallas this Saturday and Sunday.

The third week of January, I'm not going to be available. If you need to kick me, that's fine - just letting you know M-F I'm out of pocket.

I wasn't available for moves a lot either over the weekend. Plus, I didn't want to rush things and make typical mistakes as always so some nights, especially if I was drinking, I'd wait until morning to look it over again. This week will be better for me. Sorry to see shuke drop out but our game will continue.

and I lost... :lmao:

Good morning.

Just to set the record straight- my conversation with Shuke last night had nothing to do with the holidays. During the first round he posted that no matter what was going on, he never made more than 6 moves a day. I thought he was joking around; apparently he wasn't. 6 moves a day is not going to work for the tournament.

Of course holidays slow people down. Of course other stuff is going to come up, like Bender needing to take a week off (that's fine BTW). So long as you let us know what's going on in advance no problem. But if you don't let me know, or if you insist on making only 6 moves a day knowing you're slowing everybody else way down, I don't think that's fair to anyone else in the tournament. Shuke didnt have to quit. If he had promised that once the holidays were over he would have tried to average at the very least 20 moves every 24 hours (which is still a very slow pace) that would have been fine. But he quit and whined about it as he was leaving. Not my problem.

FYI on my vacation - I'll be able to make a few moves at night as long as Russia doesn't jam my internet.

wow. just like a hillary supporter to try to spin it like this. f'n unbelievable.

The real issue is we are using the wrong app to run the tournament. The fastest the app allows is 1 move/day which is WAY too slow for what Tim wants to run. Therefore he has to police everyone to keep up the pace otherwise the tourney dies on the vine. An app that allowed GAME in 1,2 or 3 days would police itself and keep the pace. I'm not aware of an app with those types of time-controls, btw.

And me no ringer!

The time controls aren't really a problem. The last 2 tournaments were very smooth. But there are always some people who are too slow, or who don't tell me that their game never started, or who quit after they start losing and don't tell us. Once these types are weaned out everything goes much faster.

tommyboy and spOOfy, I need you to tell me what's going on in your game before the end of the day. If you don't post anything here, I have to remove you guys from the tourney and start round 3 tommorow. If your game is ongoing, all you have to do is let me know and we will wait.

With Shuke gone we have an odd number and need one more guy. I will see if Sand is still interested. If not, hopefully somebody else will volunteer.

Sand gets first dibs- if he doesn't respond by the time we start round 3 you're in.
I'm in. Definitely need an easy warmup, though. Been since last tournament since I really played.

Great video breakdown from a recent game at the Qatar Masters Tourney:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN8znIyoxtw

It goes into the "Makagonov" variation against the Kings Indian Defense.

I have been playing the Smyslov variation vs the KID without much success in recent over the board games, so I think I may look into this Makagonov (which I had never heard of previously).

I strongly dislike playing white in a mainline Kings Indian as a positional player.

Anyway, for anyone interested in some sideline vs one of the most common defenses around these days.
