4th annual FBG chess tourney- Congrats to Kasparov! 1st place (2 Viewers)

That's awesome John! I haven't played in a real tournament in years. Plan to go back to it once my kids have moved out.
Good idea to wait until then :) Takes so much preparation and I do have a high pressure job that makes studying some times impossible. My girlfriend hates me as I spend most Sundays locked in my office studying chess for 12 straight hours but that's what it takes to do well at some of these bigger events.
It's been about 30 years since I played in a live tournament. My highest USCF rating was about 1800, but that was when I was really into it and studying a ton. I would love to play in another one again, and I only have six months until my youngest is out of the house :)

Topical

Kaspy and I should be done soon. I'd like to resign because I'm eager to know what I possibly could have done wrong this game, but I'm being a good sport and playing it through until it's completely lost.

Em is moving about twice a day, none since last night. We are nowhere near ending if this keeps up.
Not good. Honestly I never should have let him in the tournament to begin with. Like everything else he does, it's been a complete waste of time. Forfeit win to Abraham. Well just have to go with an uneven number of players the last 2 rounds.
Are you kidding me? I was about to beat Abraham.

I was actually starting to get better and was excited to get my first real win in the tournament. But Abraham just couldn't stomach losing to me and came here and whined to Tim.

Round 4 (left side white)

Why would I not be making moves when I clearly have position on his King and am ready to start taking his secondary pieces? His Rook was next.

Life has all sorts of mysteries. Good luck in future games!
I'm actually looking for,"I'm sorry for being a poor chess master and not taking more than 30 seconds to disqualify you.

I'm willing to give you my place in the tournament to make up for my mistake. I wouldn't want to give anyone else the impression I would falsely disqualify them."

He must be black if his screen shot shows he's at the bottom, right?

(I assume he's cheating and using a computer to decide his moves.)

Well I was up all night wrestling with Eminence's demand that I award him the win over Abraham and reinstate him in the tournament, replacing myself. It was a tough, very difficult decision. Not only did Eminence post his position against Abraham over 200 times in this thread last night, he also sent me a PM pleasantly titled "What the #### is your problem???" I haven't opened it.

In any case, having myself played both Eminence and Abraham, and having studied the position that Eminence posted (impossible to avoid it) I have reached the conclusion that it is a position that Eminence is, to be frank, incapable of reaching on the board of his own accord. This added to the information that he was making 2-3 moves a day leads me to the unfortunate conclusion which some of you have already reached: namely that Eminence decided that his only chance to win a game in this tournament was to cheat his way to victory.

So therefore I am unable to fulfill Eminence's request. For better or worse, I will have to remain in the tournament and Eminence will have to stay kicked out. I don't feel good about this, but sometimes we all have to make tough choices in life.

Are you nuts? I was kicking Abraham's ###! If I was cheating, why would I drag it out? I was beating dude fair and square, let's be honest Abe hasn't been doing too well in this tournament.

Total miscarriage of justice. What's the point? If I lose you'll all point and laugh at me. If I actually start winning, people will just quit playing and say that I was cheating.

JFC, he was banned once and we still have to endure this crap. Get lost, go troll somewhere else.
We're talking wasted hours of my life here. Backlash is totally acceptable in a situation like this.
If your version of events are true, you certainly didn't waste your time here. In a few short (or not too short) rounds, you went from playing chess at a second grade level to becoming, seemingly, an excellent player. That's a remarkable improvement only possible from someone capable of great things. Even if your talents aren't acknowledged by us here, you know the truth.

I'm willing to believe that you started playing this much better - just tell us how you plan capture his Rook next.

As terrible as that position is for white, there is not a single player in this tournament who wouldn't defeat Eminence even in that situation if he had to make the remaining moves on his own.

That's why I wanted him to tell how he captures the Rook - and just saying that Abraham would let him fork his King isn't an answer I don't think. Granted, one of you better players may have the moves to do it.

Assuming he doesn't move his King or Rook. I can move him into check with my knight and after he moves out of check, take the Rook. If he moves his Rook, I can slide my Queen diagonal, grab a pawn, and steal his Rook on the turn after that.

Looking at the board, it would be very difficult for black to lose this position. But I'm confident that Eminence would find a way.

Tell you what Eminence, let's see if you can win this. If you can win it against me, I'll put you back in the tournament.

My first move is c3.

If you take more than a few minutes to respond, Eminence, the offer is revoked. I want to see YOUR skills, not some computer you're using.
