So, what should I have done here?

Keep your passed pawns connected where possible. Around move 62 you sort of sever them from each other. Connected they are as powerful as they get. Working individually, they are a non factor vs a king and a rook.

Just a comment for Tim, I think everyone appreciates you running this, but you need to set more firm time controls. It's kinda unreasonable to invite people to play under the guise of loose/no time controls but then now you're demanding games be done by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks, we may need you; we will if after round 1 we have an odd number. I'll let you know. No time controls were necessary the last two times I ran this. Usually after the first round it sorts itself out. I'm not necessarily demanding all games be done by tomorrow; I just want to have the players post a reasonable explanation (like Kutta just did). "I only make 7 moves a day" is NOT a reasonable explanation.

I'm down to fight again if anyone is bored. I feel like I do pretty good until I blindly get my Queen killed. I'm probably better off going for the Queen for Queen sacrifice.

Without your Queen, you pretty much get to watch your opponent wreck your pawns and chase your King across the board.

I'll assume you are being serious even though I know I shouldn't. Don't take offense to this.You're horrible - you move your pieces around the board haphazardly and don't protect anything and have no concerns for board position. My 10 year old is better and I can only assume your are either trolling us or you've never played before. And I say this as someone who sucks by comparison to most of the players in this tournament.

My suggestion is to read those links Bender posted and continue playing practice matches. If you'd like I could get my 10 year olds chesstime login and give to you.

Sorry you're quitting Dentist. I honestly believe 3-4 days per game should be enough for anyone, but if it's not this tournaments not for you. If I allow people to go much slower than that this thing will collapse because most people will get bored waiting for the next round.

Let us know if you reconsider.

OK, here we go, I hate to have to do this but:

1. Either NajehHajen or rajincajun need to post in here by 5pm PST tomorrow or they're both out of the tournament.

2. Sand needs to challenge dancingbones and start his game by 12pm PST tomorrow or he is out of the tournament; if that happens, dancingbones receives a 1st round bye and 1 point.

3. Joffer needs to let me know by 5pm PST tomorrow if Shuke is still averaging 2-3 moves per day. If so, Shuke is out of the tournament, and Joffer wins round 1 by forfeit.

4. All games for round 1 need to be completed by Thursday afternoon, 12 pm PST. If they are not, I will decide on a game by game basis how to handle it. If I see that anyone is averaging only a few moves a day, that person is going to be out of the tournament.

Any questions or complaints, please post them. Thanks.

Kutta defeats Otis in round 1. Even after trying to Queen castle and dropping a piece early, Otis fought back hard and had me on the ropes a bit. It was a fun game. And I had the added benefit of meeting Oats in person and having coffee with him in NY this morning
