6 yr. old alone in runaway experimental balloon (1 Viewer)

Now they are saying the balloon had a box attached at the base, which is no longer there. Authorities are searching for it. :goodposting:
Oh boy...
Link.
WHERE IS THE FATHER??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Something tells me he would no with certainty.

Also, will the CNN blowhards now say that it was only logical that the box was attached, and of course there was enough lift?
Why the heck are they blow hards? The kid was reported to the police to be in the balloon, and CNN, Fox, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and everyone else went with it.

BTW CBS is now questioning it.

"Balloon Boy" Story a Publicity Hoax?

The pictures they have on CNN all appear to have a box attached, I don't understand how no one could have seen the box fall off.
I don't the box they are referring to is the square silver "stem" coming off the balloon. I'm assuming there was a plywood box on the bottom of that. :goodposting:

Hast Du etwas Zeit für mich

Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich

Von 99 Luftballons

Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont

Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich

Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich

Von 99 Luftballons

Und dass sowas von sowas kommt

Because they act like they've known exactly how things will turn out all along. They never questioned whether or not the boy was in the balloon. They were certain he was. Then, when it was determined he wasn't, they acted like it was only logical that the balloon couldn't lift that much weight. Now that there are reports saying that something was attached, they've abandoned that as the only logical possibility that they were so certain of...for at least the next 2 minutes.Blowhards.

Bob Licko, 65, a neighbor, said he was leaving home when he heard commotion in the backyard. He said he saw two boys on the roof with a camera, commenting about their brother."One of the boys yelled to me that his brother was way up in the air," Licko said.Licko said the boy's mother seemed distraught and that the boy's father was running around the house.
WHY were the two brothers on the roof of the house with a camera?

have you not watched their rap video?

This story is responsible for the top 20 searches on Google Trends.

ETA The first non-balloon boy story was Megan McCain's sweater balloons. Do those still count?

videotaping their brother flying in a baloon

Ironically, today's 'this day in history' item that I wrote on my whiteboard was about the Montgolfier brothers and their first manned balloon flight.

Wolf Blitzer: Do the blackhawks that are assisting the search have night vision capability?

Nat'l Guard: Um, yes, they do, but the sun is still out, so...

Seems to me the most logical explanation at this point is:

- the kid was in the box attached to balloon

- older brother untied the rope not fully realizing what would happen

- box became detached at some point

I hope I'm wrong.

I see the dot. But it doesn't look big enough in relation to the size of the balloon to be a box big enough to hold a boy. I hope I'm right.

I can't imagine how his family must feel.

I'm really hoping it's a spec on the camera or a bird even though the 'experts' say it isn't.You're right though, it doesn't look big enough, but its very hard to determine size in the sky.I'm hoping the balloon really didn't have what it took to lift with him in it.

Didn't stop Tom Foreman from saying something like, "you can see that this is in the same focal range as the balloon."Are people on stupid pills today?

Jesus Christ he's dumb.
Why is this dumb? The sun goes down in a couple of hours, right?
Well this is in Colorado, so they've probably got 4-5 hours left.
Okay. I still don't see why it's dumb to ask whether the search can continue after dark.

All those fathers with young sons and helium filled balloons in their back yard will hug their children just a little bit longer tonight. And before I get castrated by those who will respond that I'm making light of a serious incident, in my opinion this is a horrific incident if the boy died, but this father is dumber than that mom who killed her son by having him hold on to the matress in the back of the pickup truck to keep it from falling out as they drove down the highway.

Still seems fishy ... or potentially stupid. "Hey honey, we have three young kids who we pretty much let run rampant. Let's loosely attach a boy-sized container to the bottom of this balloon."

I saw the black spot. It looks to be, from the picture, significantly smaller than the basket that was attached. Not sure it could have held a small child.

Blurb about their Wife Swap episode;

"The Heene family of Colorado consists of wife Mayumi, husband Richard, and their three kids. The kids are eight year old Bradford, seven year old Ryo, and five year old Falcon. The Heene family likes to live life on the edge, and the whole family goes on storm chasing missions. Wife Mayumi often wakes the family by using a bullhorn to announce “Storm Approaching, Storm Approaching!”

In order to be prepares to chase storms, the whole family sleeps in their clothes. Mayumi maintains storm equipment, drives the storm-mobile, and films tornadoes. She also tends to the kids while Richard rides his motorbike into the eye of the storm. Richard launches rockets that are designed to measure magnetic forces."

I remember this episode. Those people were annoying and strange.

oof

Local news reporting:

- there was no basket/box

- balloon that landed was in the same form/condition as it was in the backyard

- search is ongoing in a local park

Good grief.
