Crickets in here as the Arrowhead hour draws nigh. I think the Pats presented a pretty good formula on how to hang with the Chiefs. Gotta establish the running game and connect on some short and intermediate throws and keep Mahomes on the bench.
To win it's gonna take a near-perfect game from the Raiders and a subpar kind of game they had against the Chargers for the Chiefs. That, to me, is how the big the gap is between the two.
Prediction: I'll go with the Clubber Lang line: "Pain."

Sounds like you’re underrating the KC defense to me. Validating my point really.
We’ll see what happens on Sunday i guess, but I’ve been impressed with KC’s defense this year. Their secondary is excellent. Their DBs have been solid & the safeties are hard hitters. They’ve also played pretty clean, and don’t seem to give up a lot of penalty yards.
Weird you talk SOS allegedly being weak for KC (BAL’s only bad game, btw) yet you can’t dismiss HOU as being “a turd” without acknowledging that they had the toughest 3-game start to the season. Their offense looked a heck of a lot better week 4 than weeks 1-3. So SOS matters for the Chiefs but not the Texans if it helps you make a point?
And outside of game 1, Jacobs hasn’t been awesome. As you mentioned, he should run all over KC. If he doesn’t maybe that’ll say something about the Raiders/Jacobs.
The Chiefs biggest defensive weakness is against the run, but that doesn’t usually bite them because of the game scripts they generate. They have a stout secondary so if a team can’t run run run, they’re gonna be playing from behind in a hurry.
As for the Pats without Cam, teams play the team on the schedule that week. NEP’s defense was still tough. It wasn’t a cakewalk. And they did what you expect a good defense to do against Hoyer & Stidham - they had what, 5-6 Ints? You can’t say NE *almost* threw a bunch of TDs against them so they aren’t that good defensively. That’s magical thinking.
I hope the Raiders win this week. I’m not betting on it.

Wow, what a half. I stand corrected. No way did I think the Raiders could exchange haymakers with the Chiefs and never would I have thought the Raiders would have the bigger punches.
Few quick thots:
* The Raiders WERE near perfect.
* The Raiders suddenly have a pass rush and Mahomes is running for his life. Too bad he's so good at it. Against a mere mortal, they'd be in much better shape than a tie.

I'm afraid, tho, in the second half the Raiders are gonna outta gas defensively chasing Mahomes and those receivers. But no matter what, they've proven they can stand up man to man against the champs...at their place. This doesn't cloud the fact the defense is still a major deficiency but it's still a HUGE step forward.

The Raiders remained perfect through the second half. Specifically the D. What an outstanding game at all levels:
D-line generated a consistent pass rush, and not just from Crosby. We stormed up the middle and collapsed from the side. Mahomes' ability and awareness scrambling out of the pocket was the only thing that kept a lot of their drives alive -- any other QB we would have had at least 5 sacks on the day. And we were in Mahomes' face all day, forcing bad throws and making him uncomfortable.
In the middle, Kaptain K was a force. Littleton was up and down -- variable early on in matching up with Kelce but also making some key hits and stops.
Our secondary was dynamite -- we kept speedy receivers blanketed all day and were switching off effectively. CBs stayed with them not giving Mahomes anywhere to throw to, and the safeties brought the wood.
It was phenomenal to watch our offense be so productive -- Brown and Ruggs being back changed the face of our offense.
But game ball goes to Guenther and the D who needed a perfect game, and delivered.
Stand tall, Raider nation. We're 3-2 after facing one of the toughest slates of games to open up our season -- I think consensus (and certainly my feeling) was that we'd be 1-4 or 2-3 at best heading into our bye.
Still some hard games left to play -- but we're set up well to control our destiny if we can keep playing like this.
Going to be an awesome week.

Good points, Tom. They woulda smoked any team in the league today and had a boatload of sacks with the pressure they brought and that's obviously the key for this D and any D. With that pressure, the coverage is better, the big plays are reduced and Paul Guenther is suddenly maybe not a genius but one of the better defensive coordinators out there.Stompin' Tom Connors said:

This had to be Ferrell's best game as a pass rusher yet. He and Crosby were chasing Mahomes around all...day...long... Its a nice (monkey-off-the-back) win, which will go a long way in boosting this young team's confidence. I get giving Guenther and the D the game ball. But my game ball goes to Mike Mayock. All 1st round picks(Jacobs, Abram, Ferrell and Ruggs) played a huge role in the win today. And I'm throwing in Trayvon Mullen as well. Not a 1st round pick, but the kid is quietly establishing himself as one of the better corners in the league.

Watched on my phone as we were at pumpkin and apple picking farm, so couldn't watch as closely as I like. Missed a good amount of plays.
What I noticed...
1) Has there been a game Joyner hasn't got hurt and sat a few plays and come back?
2) Curious on health of safeties... I thought we lost Heath but he got the INT... was it Harris? Do we kick the tires on Earl Thomas? Joyner is constantly knicked up and it won't take much for us to be in a bind depth wise at S.
3) Ruggs showed what he brings to the offense. He is a threat and he opens up the whole field for the entire offense. What are you going to do? Focus on who? The speedster? One of the best TE's in the league? That "fine" RB? Offensively we arw dangerous. We are good without Ruggs but with him, it take it to one of the best offenses in the league.
4) I told my buddy during the game... Jacobs may not ever break an 80 yard TD run but he will get us that 4 yards when we need it. Love his running.
5) We were getting consistent pressure on Mahomes all game but couldn't get that sack. Them losing Osemele hurt.... no idea how they got him so cheap... I am not mad about no sacks, Mahomes is a magician back there and glad we made it hard on him at least... turns out just hard enough.
6) Kwiat is a real difference maker. He seems to really help solidify that D. We just need some more big plays like the INT and more sacks. But whether it is his calling the D or his presence in the middle, the D does seem to really be better with him.
7) I want to start hearing the Carr haters to start turning around and recanting their evil ways. That is a dang good D he cut up with all the throws, beating thr "best" team in the league on a big stage and was the BETTER QB today. Suck it... nicely and all.

To be fair, I don't think anyone was expecting this outcome. But this is clearly a team that is on the rise and needs to be respected.
I don't think we lost Harris or Heath -- have to check injury report post-game but both were in there IIRC. Harris -- and really this entire group -- didn't have stellar individual games but they held together as a unit really well, and were in position when they needed to be to help corners in coverage and bring the big hit threat.
We don't have tons of depth in our FS/SS cupboard, so wouldn't be crazy to kick the tires on Thomas though I think he isn't the high character type of guy the staff is looking for. There's a few guys out there -- Dix, Reid, Reshad Jones, and a few others I think. Wouldn't kill us to look for depth if we're going to content, the season is a war of attrition.
Jacobs is a star. He was grinding out key yardage all day, but most of all when everyone knew the run was coming. Stud, period.
Let's also not forget that we were down 14-3, then 21-10 in the first half. Carr stormed back with drives that led to three TDs in the 2nd quarter -- includind two perfectly placed bombs for 59 and 72 yards -- tying the game. Stellar performance.

Props to Carr. I never thought I would see him beat Mahomes in KC.
His best reception wasn't even the TD. One trick pony speed guys don't make catches like that.

probably the biggest KC fan on the board.....so had to come in and give props....weird game....raiders definitely better than they have been in the past....props to that (especially with the injuries)....KC D was just no show today....ton of huge plays given up in the passing game....crucial no stops that don't seem like a big deal at the time but add up...felt like Raiders got the good/great side of the whistles/flags today which should make most here happy and should hopefully be the curb stomp to all the whining about the "raiders always get screwed" noise in here....some HUGE flags in their favor today....and it wasn't close....
not sure Mahomes ever just "dropped back and passed"....felt like he had to move quickly after dropping back and thus they were never on script....lots of out of pocket improv, so props for getting pressure with limited extra effort/blitzing....felt like KC was feeling themselves a little a and just went through the motions and got caught...KC D was so bad I just can't give Carr the credit he may deserve.....most college QB's could have made the throws he made on the big plays...the D was that bad....Jacobs is an absolute beast....I really liked how the Raider "star" players came and reacted to some of the Raider role players efforts on the sideline....seems like there may be some good stuff going on there....I don't even know the names of the guys that made some nice plays but Ruggs and others were over there quick to give their teammates some love....I think that stuff is important and underrated....feels like you have a good locker room working.....Chiefs made Carr look like an all pro today, but it might be an outlier....Raiders caught the Chiefs out of synch today and took advantage of the opportunity....not many mistakes and some big plays....nice win

I will be starting Carr from here on out. I wrote him off mostly, based on his dink and dunk play over the last few seasons....I'm glad I snagged him off the ww a couple weeks ago.....his O line is giving him all day, and he's got weapons. He is now playing with confidence and it shows on his downfield passes.

He did, around 4:37 left in the 2nd quarter. Mahomes went for a 67 yard TD to Hill and Abram shut it down. Mahomes had 5.02 (timed it) seconds in the pocket to get set for that throw.
I'm guessing someone playing defense against Hill is on your list of complaints, but if the ball is coming in and a player leads with his arm at that ball as it arrives...that is what the refs mean by playing the ball.
This was an important stretch that really defined the game, because Carr responded less than 2 minutes after with a 72 yard touchdown pass that he had 2.22 (timed it) seconds to throw.
That's how you win.

I was a huge voice pre-draft saying DO NOT take Ruggs with our first round pick when I assumed both Lamb and Jeudy would be off the board. Obviously the draft played out way differently than pretty much anyone expected and we had our choice of WR's. I was shocked with the Ruggs pick.
I also did not like it. Now, admittedly me not liking it was more about my bias against speedster WR's. Maybe it is BECAUSE I am a Raider fan and have seen too many speedsters that weren't football players.
However, the more that I researched Ruggs the more I saw what I think Mayock and Gruden saw. He isn't just a track guy trying to play football. He is the real deal. And his speed rrally adds more to the entire offense as well. This game offensively was much "easier" than the games without him.

Kwiatkoski makes the difference to this D that I expected Littleton to make. Hopefully Littleton figures it out and we can play decent enough to win with this great offense.

Just missing Incognito but Good plays at a very high level. It was rougher not having Brown as the level of drop off is much highee from him vs Young or even Good.
if you couldn't tell I was giving the raiders d props by saying "not sure he ever really dropped back and passed"....meaning it seemed like he was being immediately pressured most of the game....(I am sure there were times he just dropped backed and passed, I'm just saying it didn't seem like it because there was always pressure)....trying to give your guys a compliment bruh....

That reaction, to a certain degree, has been conditioned a bit over the years. Hearing DHB being called out on draft day will do that to you...
haven't given up 40 since the MNF video game against the rams....been playing pretty good since losing to TEN last year.....they were terrible today....yes raiders also played well on offense and Carr made some throws/plays he normally doesn't....but KC D was awful...there were guys WIDE open because of terrible D....lets not act like the Raider offense has been a force....

Sorry bruh. You just have to take this loss.
I was breaking it down to the plays that mattered most; Carr was under more intense pressure to do more with less deep threats and he did.
