______ Passed Away Today, RIP (4 Viewers)

Wayne Osmond dead @ 73

RIP
were they effectively the first "boy band" ? They all played instruments though so this may not fit
I think they ripped off the Jackson 5.
The Osmonds started performing together a few years before the Jackson kids did.

Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond were about the same age and reportedly very close friends. Despite the obvious differences, their careers followed remarkably similar tracks. In the One Bad Apple video I posted above, Donny sounds very similar to Jackson's sound at around the same age - 14 or so, when they were both lead singers as young members of family bands with their brothers. Its not a huge surprise that One Bad Apple was written for the Jackson 5 to perform, but they turned it down to do ABC so it went to the Osmonds and became their biggest hit.

Except that the Jackson 5 had talent...
Ahem.
I did know that Donny was a little bit rock and roll as opposed to Marie being a little bit country but I do not remember that song at all.

You're goin' coconuts!

Former MLB Pitcher Brian Matusz has passed at the age of 37. No details out yet. He was a very hot pitching prospect for the Os but never quite lived up to the hype as a starter. Had some good run as a reliever, but by all accounts, a terrific guy and teammate. Very sad. RIP.
I saw that on my FB feed. I remember the name, and wow 37 is just too young regardless of what happened. Sad for his family.

Anita Bryant, dead @ 84

RIP

Unsure why this news came out well past the date of her death (December 16, 2024)
I'm guessing that because she was truly unpleasant, the family didn't want disruptions at her funeral.

Not that anyone should be doing that.

Not familiar with her in the least and after a quick search, I was better off not knowing anything. That's all I'll say about that.

Bob Uecker. https://x.com/Brewers/status/1879918076206231672

I've listened to him on the radio my entire life. To this day I'd choose sitting out in the garage listening to Ueck over watching the games on TV.

Absolutely crushing for any Brewers fan.
Sadly, a bit apropos considering the on going kerfuffle over Major League not rating in Tim's 80's movie thread. RIP to Mr Just a Bit Outside!

i have vivid memories of my pop and me being in our garage trying to keep whatever pile of crap he or i was driving at the time running with the uke calling games on am radio my dad was a huge brewers fan and had been a huge braves fan before that he never forgave the braves for leaving milwaukee and refused to acknowledge them as a major league team until the day he died he would just call them the minor league team from atlanta anyhow uke on the radio was sort of the soundtrack to my life and the other big uke memory i have was needing to pull over many years later when i was driving up to hayward to chase trout and uke was repeatedly doing an impression of hideo nomo who uke was actually great friends with and it just hit me so hard and funny that i was laughing so hard i had to stop driving becuase i could not breath anyhow this is a loss for the world but america and milwaukee wisconsin in particular take that to the bank in the sky brohans

I always thought video game companies missed a golden opportunity to have him comment their games and let him go wild with it like in major league

RIP

Ueck was at his best when the Brewers were getting blown out... some of my favorite games were double-digit Brewers losses. Ueck would almost entirely ignore the game and just tell old stories that were as interesting as they were hilarious. Dude was one of the great storytellers of all time. What a life well lived. I'm going to miss him so much...

Dan Patrick had a nice segment on Uecker this morning and will have more tomorrow with some show prep. Said he texted Ueck recently when he turned 90, wishing him a happy birthday. Ueck commented that he finally reached his batting average - Patrick texted back "Oh, that's right, .190 Bob. Cool". Bob texted back "Hey, .210 with runners in scoring position". :lmao:

That and Ueck talking about catching a knuckle-baller: "Catching a knuckle ball is easy. You just wait for it to quit rolling and pick it up off the ground".

For those of us who love good humorists, there were few better than Bob Uecker. RIP.
