PBA HOF Mark Roth regarded as the first to hook the ball. 

Mark Roth was an American retired professional bowler. He won 34 PBA Tour titles in his career, and was a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Roth was most dominant from 1975 through 1987, a stretch in which he made 107 televised finals appearances, captured 33 titles, and won four PBA Player of the Year awards.

Also the first bowler to make a 7-10 split on TV.

Huge Mark Roth fan.  Used to tune into PBA bowling on ABC sports every Saturday at 2:30 pm hoping to see he made the top 5 cut.

For the first time since Kurt Vonnegut, i am in tears over a celebrity death. The only joy in this past decade of my life has been working on the Alice in Wonderland musical i started a dozen yrs ago, and without this beautiful, beautiful man i never would have made it past the first couple of songs. Although the first musical i ever saw was Zero Mostel in Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and although Sweeney Todd is my favorite musical, i didnt think to consult his oeuvre for help writing showtunes. it wasnt until i watched the Sweeney Todd movie while in the middle of a furious run of songwriting and found myself suddenly hating all of my ideas for a month afterword did i realize that my new roadblock could be my salvation. First time i ever learned anything off the internet - ordered every bit of Sondheim material and downloaded every clip i could and my work - tho it will likely never see the light of day - was revolutionized doing so. None of the musical ideas i've batted around with folks here would have had any fullness without that education. And, though to no success, i can honestly say that each song i've composed in the last decade has been true to his axiom, "the world should be a different place at the end of a song than it was when it began". For that and a million other things, Mr. Sondheim, thank you, bravo and rest in peace.

A guy I always liked and respected, from a time when integrity meant something in politics (and life). RIP.

IIRC, he went on SNL after losing the presidential bid... extremely good sport about the whole thing. Gave me even more respect for him.

:goodposting:  Back when I was a college Republican (I know), he was the most gracious and genuinely kind person I met.  Second to him was Jack Kemp, who also showed great integrity.

Some of us are still college Republicans.  And college Democrats.  We miss the old days.

 
WWE HoF wrester Black Jack Lanza has died at age 86.  He was one half of The Blackjacks alongside Blackjack Mulligan.  They won tag team championships in the AWA, World Wrestling Association (Indianapolis), and the precursor to WWE, the WWWF.  He also won singles titles as WWA World Champion and NWA Georgia TV champion.

Following his retirement, he became a road agent and producer (basically, planning out the matches).  He was inducted into both the WWE and Professional Wrestling's halls of fame.

Terribly sad, I thought I had read somewhere he had medical issues, maybe with a kidney but I couldn't find anything.

The Otis Anderson Jr story from last week was also sad, and I immediately thought they meant the old Cardinal and Giant RB was the killer.  Different spelling, the old NFL guy was Ottis.  2 young men gone way too soon.
