A New Car! (help me choose a sedan) (1 Viewer)

Have you looked at the Subaru Legacy.  Bought a CrossTrek this past summer, and they were willing to give me a sick deal....then again, I'm in the north east.

I can confirm the Android Auto isn't a rumor. I have a 2016 Mazda 6 and had it in for maintenance a few weeks ago. He asked me how I liked the car & I told him I love it except for two items. 1) the stock tires blow & 2) the software running the entertainment system is lacking. He responded that an Android Auto is in the works but couldn't confirm a date.
I'd have a 2017 in my driveway if not for the enfotainment system. I hear people have been hacking the system via flashdrive to make it android compatible, but I don't have the guts or tech-savy enough to ever attempt this.

BTW, what don't you like about the tires? are they generic all seasons?

Love the finish and styling of Audis.

I have an A4. It's been a great car. The back seat has non existent leg room. Think the A6 has a bit more leg room back there.

Wife got the Q3 (mini SUV thing) a little over a year ago. It's a fairly new make and there have been some minor issues that she had to deal with (moonroof had an issue). Also a great car to ride in though.

Just got a certified BMW 328i last week, was a 2015 with 11k miles for around $23k. After 10 years of driving a Civic, this is really awesome so far

A Genesis , it only has a Genesis badge , is one bad ### hombre . Although I bet the resale isn’t great

I understand having the Audi rings look cool on your grill  but a Lexus , yawn . Unless comfort is your thing over driving/style , it’s a Japanese Buick.  Audi makes some beautiful looking cars
Maybe true to an extent.  Are they the sexiest cars?  No, but they are the best made cars.  You can't compete with their quality, so if that is part of the decision making equation they are tops.

And, other than their styling not being the hippest in the world, they don't really have much else in common with Buick.

I've done the hack but only for the mods I consider pretty basic (i.e. wallpaper, changing colors and scheme, adding date info to top right, etc). I considered the Android Auto mod and thought that might be one to skip. The updates I did were very easy to install.

They are wearing down quickly and don't perform well in wet conditions.

How much are you putting down and how long of a loan do you want at $500/month?

That would help weed out some of these suggestions.

Also it was $23k before factoring in extended warranty and a year of maintenance, plus some fees and crap. My payments are just under $500/month when it's all said and done.

Just drove an Infiniti Q50 rental last month.  Even though it looked like a luxury sedan, it drove like a sports car.  It had incredible power and good handling to go with all the interior luxuries you would expect from a luxury sedan.  I was a fan.  No idea how they hold up though.

If you'd have problems stomaching saying that you drive a Hyundai, then stop reading now.

But the newly introduced Kia Stinger GT is a REALLY nice ride.   They just started getting them in showrooms in the last month or two.
Yeah this got really ratings.

Mazda 6, Genesis, and the Stinger are really do make good sense. I may have to get over myself.

My comp wasn’t a bad thing. Both produce comfortable rides. Toyota is a great company

Yeah I edited - I didn't include the extended warranty and I didn't factor in the taxes and fees, sorry. I was gonna get 3 years of maintenance, but he suggested I just do 1 year and revisit to decide if I still want it next year. So all in it's actually just under $30k

Not sure if you intended this or not.  But when I read the thread title, the Price is Right new car music started playing in my head.  I think it was the exclamation point that triggered me.
It's exactly what I intended.

Still pretty darn good.  That'd be right in my ideal price point.

Well I can't speak for the deal you'd get in Arizona, but as a fellow previously boring car driver, this car is really fun. I feel like I spent the last 10 years sleeping with a 6, and now I'm on a date with Jessica Alba

Yeah I've heard they're good.  Just not as, uh, cool to say I drive a Hyundai versus an Audi, Jag, Lexus, etc.
I have a Genesis and I have had an oddly large number of people ask me if it is a Bentley.   Very nice car and you tell me people you drive a Genesis if they ask.

Speak for yourself.  I   my Jetta...

Of all the high end leases at the firm I work for, the Audi A6 is my favorite in both style and performance.

But if if you want to save money, I'll echo those that suggested Hyundai

Damn, I love the Maximas for sedans. Built like a Z, four wheels, and low to the ground. Spendy, though. Not sure about the paint, though. I hear the Altimas peel out here in the Southwest.
The black paint does, for sure. I used to have a 2008 and it started fading and peeling.

i’ve got a 2013 white one, now. I love it. Super reliable, has enough giddy-up to pass people on two-lane country roads, decent mileage.

like I said, I got a 2014 328i with 22k miles for $26k+.  I added 2 years more years of maintenance, but still came in under $30k.

Pre-owned financing for me was 1.9% for 60 mumfs............I take a longer loan, but always prepay.  I put down some cash and credit card money and my loan is around $350- monthly, but I pay $500-.  Just goy my first maintenance done, oil change, new wipers, no charge.

I did look at the audi, but I found the back seat to be best suited for people without legs, just torsos.

Dude, I just drove a Jetta for ten years and loved it.  You're essentially telling a male cheerleader to go play rugby.
I'm a car guy. Get with it, man. FYI, my current no fun beater is a 2017 Jetta. I have other cars for fun that don't get subjected to winters.

I would suggest the A6 or maybe even consider Q5.  I went looking for an A4/A6 this summer and ended up with the Q5. CPO keeps the price down a little and they add a year to the warranty but they probably won't bargain on CPO prices.  Drives very nice. Lexus had many reports from different independent sources that the infotainment system was somewhat difficult to use. I never confirmed so you may want to check them out. I hear all kinds of stories (sorry no links) from friends that the BMW's and Mercedes drive nice but lots of service issues - especially after the third year, so if you are keeping for another 10 years, maybe not right choice for you.  Infinity sedans have good ratings.

Mix of both.
Here's how I see it:

Audi/BMW/Mercedes: If you go entry level (as a general rule anything under 5 series BMW) it seems like you don't have the dough and you're trying too hard. It would be better to drive a fully loaded Accord than a 3-series bmw IMO - it's just more respectable. It's kind of like showing up to the gym with the tightest gear, new pair of MJ's etc... but then having no game and you look even worse than if you just showed up in your shaq's from walmart.

Lexus/Infiniti: I think you can go more entry level - this applies moreso to Lexus than Infiniti. It's a sensible choice for the classy professional who doesn't have to rub your face in it but still wants you to know he's better than you.

Lincoln: no

Genesis: This is the pick. Tremendous value, performance, quality... all without the extended pinky. It suggests quiet confidence. This vehicle belongs to a man who appreciates the finer things in life because of his excellent taste not because he's trying to convince the other kids he's cool. He'd be cooler than you in a VW Jetta.

The pictures don't do it justice...
Yep.

The Genesis is a legit contender in Lux class. Love mine. Fast as hell with the sound system from a Rolls, the transmission from BMW M5, high-end brembo brakes, etc....

My pop is a Lexus snob... took my Genesis for a spin and is now in the market for one.

Have you checked out the "I can help you buy a car " thread? I bumped it.
Long story shortened-you do NOT go into any dealership to "shop". You
have a car in mind with a price you will pay and the dealers compete to match
it. The ONLY thing you do at the dealership is sign the papers and drive away.

We were one of the first to own an Excel back in the mid-80s. It was cheap, but we were able to buy the top one (GLS I think) and it was very nice inside (sweet cassette stereo for the time) and it had what my father liked and as the parent of a soon-to-drive teen, I now understand: a very slow engine. You could step on the gas and after the rats got moving on the wheel, the car would limp across the intersection.

But Hyundai was then (not sure about now, haven't owned one since that one!) a great manufacturer; they took good care of us and until my older brother managed to smash the vehicle a couple years later, we loved that car.

If you're embarrassed by the H hyundai logo, the Genesis line all feature the bentley-esque winged korean market badging now. ;)

Do yourself a favor and drive one.

They also suffer from a pretty quick depreciation rate, so check out a 2015/2016 5.0 with low mileage and take it for a spin. Be sure to test out the Lexicon sound system... if you're a music guy, you'll fall in love. 17 speaker Lexicon system in my car smokes just about any home/auto sound system I've heard. Not to mention 420 ponies under your foot is pretty fun...

We bought a car back in September.  Found the exact car we wanted online.  Drove to the dealership and saw that the sticker price was 1k higher than the online price (i don't think that was some sort of tactic...just a clerical error).  i pointed it out and said "i'm willing to pay the online price minus $X.  if you can't do that, i'm going over to the Toyota dealership (1/4 mile away).  There's a Thunderbolt Greaseslapper over there that i like."

We got the price we wanted.

sounds like a dummy.   "Well, go get your pretend car then, smart guy"

buy a 1-2 year old lease return.  fully loaded with less than 15k miles on it.  i drove all sorts of CPO cars and ended up with with a honda, touring edition.  entry level luxury cars are just that, entry level.

So after ten years and over 200k my manly and incredibly reliable 2008 VW Jetta appears to need replacing.  Work has been good so I am looking to upgrade a bit but, like most practical things in life, I'm not so good at going about it and have no really bought a car on my own before (got a hand-me-down and a junker while in school and I bought the Jetta from a former college roommate when it went on sale).  I haven't test driven anything yet and don't know anybody with these cars, but I've done some internet research and narrowed it down to the following below-list choices (I thought I'd be all over a Passat or a CC but they aren't rating well).  I can put some money down and I am looking for about a 500/month payment.  I'd note that the more affordable version of the Tesla would be ideal, but I looked into it and it's not available for 12-18 months so it doesn't appear to be an option.

What I'm looking for:

1.  Low to ground sedan that's smooth, has some decent interior options, and a big enough back seat for carseats. Looking to own it for a long time. Need some decent trunk space for golf clubs.

2. Good highway mileage.  I drive like 20k/year, almost all for work, and almost all highway.  If gas prices weren't so low right now a hybrid would be the obvious choice, but I'm not so sure that makes the most sense.

3. Brand recognition. I know I'm being a bit vain - as I know that Camrys, Avalons, etc. offer nearly the same things - but I find some value to getting myself something that's considered "luxury."

So far I'm considering:

1. Audi A3 through A6 - they seem to rate the best.

2. Lincoln MKZ - looks to be one of the more affordable options.

3. Lexus ES (maybe the hybrid version?).

4. Cadillac CTs - a bit pricey but I've driven one before and really liked it.

5. VW CC - the nicer version of the car I already know I like, but as indicated it doesn't rate well.

The Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-series also look amazing, but I probably can't justify the price. Also it's likely I'll struggle to find a local shop where I live to work on it.

Please advise with any input, experiences, suggestions, etc.  TIA, will answer yours.
VW is discontinuing the CC.  Will be replaced by the Arteon... looks nice.

Nope, but I have heard this.  Either way I'll check that thread out though.

My probably is that I've never test driven any of these.

I gotta admit, I'm really liking the "buy a pre-owned two year lease one" suggestions.  Makes a ton of sense to me.
