Agreed. Roundabouts can significantly improve traffic flow if 1) they are constructed at appropriate intersections and 2) people don't drive like morons. Same is true for Single Point Urban Interchanges

Also, it could be, paranoid about rain, or slightly chilly and you'd like to keep the option available; if you don't know where or how long you'll end up somewhere. Also, if you are picking up someone else like a friend/gf/family member, you don't know what is comfortable for them, better safe than mildly annoyed at people who like to complain .
