Actors/Actresses who have made a ton of money by being medicore (1 Viewer)

This thread horrible.

Adam Sandler? Liked his early stuff. He was a force on SNL. Made billions carrying movies. He's a huge talent.

 
If you are insanely hot you cannot be mediocre.

Jessica Alba is not mediocre. For 15 years guys been pining for her. She earned it.

 
To really qualify you need to be pleasant/nice look at best and an average actor at best while making a fortune.

I mentioned Juliana Marguiles earler.

Judd Hirsch comes to mind now.

Jennifer Jason Leigh as well.

He wasn't ever in the $20 million per film conversation, but he made a pretty good living at being himself.

 
I think there is a difference between mediocre actors and one-trick ponies. One-trick ponies can only do one thing, but they tend to do it very well. i.e. Adam Sandler.

I think Keanu Reeves is a very mediocre actor. He could have been a one trick pony if he stuck to his roles in Parenthood and Bill & Ted. He played the stoner dude very well.

I don't think any of those made the money that puts them in the "ton of money" category. The highest of these three seems JM at 22 Mil. Compared to Keannu Reeves at 350 million it's a blip.

Hill was good in Wolf of Wall Street. It was definitely a different role for him.

But in Moneyball, he played a bland, straight accountant like character that anyone (you and I included) could play.

 
This is a tough topic. It's too easy to just name famous actors that you don't care for.

My pick would be Ray Liotta. I like him as an actor, but don't think he really rises above mediocrity. I guess you could argue with 'a ton of money', as his net worth is only around $14 million.

 
A lot of good older names listed so far. A lot I agree with.

Chris Pine is a more recent name that immediately popped into my head. Boring white guy, no charisma, not a good actor, but he's the face of a big franchise or two.

How about Kevin Bacon? I'm younger and I can appreciate some of his cheesy classics for what they are (Footloose, Tremors), but he's not much of an actor and has banked a ton of money I bet.

 
Wahlberg peaked with "Boogie Nights".

Of course he was playing a dumb guy who, despite not having any real talent, became a success thanks to one attribute.

I hate him just for those awful tequila ads. And the fact that he might fold under questioning.

I like Marky Mark and enjoy the majority of his dumb movies but this is a pretty great comment.

I think that Wahlberg has charisma and is likable in most films.

But his range of acting is severely limited.

In the Invincible credits, you see shots of the real Papale and Wahlberger acts nothing like him.

In The Fighter credits, you see scenes of the brothers and while Bale acts just like the one brother, Wahlberger acts nothing like the other brother.

He basically just plays himself again.

Same thing I said about Allysin Chaines until she learned that taking it in the face and mouth were showing dedication to her craft. Then came the boob job and all it seemed was that she was simply taking a paycheck

To say Tom Hanks is mediocre isn't bold, it's goofy.
