I think everyone is sacred of Neil, that if they try to get there money. That Neil would come after them. So I understand not going after Neil and trying to get your money from Neil. Just chalk it up as a lost and move on. Who needs the worries.
Neil and people like him WANT people like you. They NEED people like you. Willing to say "Just chalk it up as a lost and move on. Who needs the worries."

Just received an email, presumably sent to all past AFFL customers, from a Wayne Golab and Robert Smolarczyk, that they are working to purchase AFFL, and that they have opened the 2008 contest for signups. I am technically deficient andd have no idea how to copy the email to this post, so if someone wants to tell me how i will. The prospective purchasers state that they have asked the current owner to open for sign ups, encourage you to sign up, and state they will not charge credit cards until Aug 1st, in case they dont complete the purchase.Noticeably absent from the email is ANY reference to prize payouts from last year. Anybody want to take a stab at what is going on here?

Here's the email I saw....

My name is Wade Golab and my partner is Robert Smolarczyk. Robert and I participated in the Platinum AFFL league last year as Chicago Justice. Over the last several years we've also competed in the NFFC, Payday Sports, and Fantasy Jungle as Chicago Justice. I've also participated in the Gold and Silver AFFL Leagues as WolfPac, and Chicago Stars (with a separate partner) respectively, as well as the WCOFF, Payday Sports, and Fantasy Jungle as WolfPac. Together, as a team, Robert and I have been involved in fantasy sports for over eight years and individually for over twenty. In that time we haven't come across a better contest than the AFFL. It's convenient, easy to use, quick, and it's only going to get better with time, and your feedback. We have been doing this a long time and we believe that we know what players want. It will be our mission to provide our customers with stellar contests.

We are working on purchasing, and taking over, the AFFL and its assets from its current owner. We have made significant progress over the last few months but there are still some things that need to be worked out. My partner and I have been working feverishly trying to squeeze six to eight months worth of work into these last three months. Recently we began calling you, the prize winners, and will continue to call you with more detailed information. We sincerely hope that we will complete this deal in time for the 2008 season.

In anticipation of the completed deal we have asked the current owner to post our new entry fees and prize payouts, as well as the new contests we are planning on implementing on AFFL.com. The overall game structure, as well as the rules, will remain intact. We have also paid a significant amount of money to have an advertisement run in select fantasy football magazines due to be released soon. Although the deal (and subsequent prize payouts) for the purchase of the AFFL is not complete, due to time constraints, we have also asked that the current owner open signup's for the 2008 contests. We feel this is a necessary step to successfully complete the transition to our new ownership of the company. We understand there may be some hesitation to sign up for the 2008 season so we will not be charging credit cards until August 1st. If we have not completed the deal before August 1st, then no credit cards will be charged and an email will be sent to the participants notifying them of the situation.

For those of you that we have already spoken to, that have agreed to roll over some or all of their prize winnings into teams for next year, we anticipate those credits being in your accounts in the next few weeks. As I stated earlier, we will continue to call the prize winners to discuss the current situation and plans of the transaction. However, if we have not spoken to you, or if we have and you have additional questions please feel free to call either of us at the below numbers.

We would like to let you know up front that we will not move forward with this deal until we feel that this will be a successful venture. This would include plans to pay out all prize money owed, or all prize money owed minus amounts rolled over to 2008, as well as establishing a prize fund for next year with the grand prize payouts placed in the account prior to August 1st.

In closing, we would like to thank you for the support that we have received from the vast majority of you. Your understanding of the situation, as well as your willingness to continue to participate in the new AFFL has moved this deal one step closer to completion. We envision great things happening for the AFFL in the future, and we hope that together, we can build the premier fantasy football contest out there. We believe that with your help and suggestions, we can mold the AFFL into just that. Again, thank you for your patience and continued support.

Sincerely,

Not sure. I co-owned a team with a buddy and he was the one that got the email. He said that he got two different emails (second email just lacked information) in a matter of 10 minutes. The other email was probably the one you received.

Maybe coincidence, maybe not, but I got this e-mail today. Until I got burned (so far, anyway) I really enjoyed the AFFL, so my initial reaction is:

If the 2008 prize money is secured like the FFPC is doing AND the payouts are respectable, then I would re-up in the AFFL for 2008, especially considering it might help me recoup my $4200 from 2007.

Opinions?

Aero-my discussions with Wade so far have been that they want to pay the 2007 unpaid winners and then secure the prize money in a attorney escrow as the FFPC has done. The amount theyw ill pay the 2007 winners is a reduced amount, they will then offer teams etc as additional compensation. All in All, this is the best they as the potential purchasers can do, I'm not at all thrilled. But I appreciate the efforts to date and why not remain patient? If it doesn't get done, as I've said before. I'll drop the hammer faster than anyone can say AFFL. I'd rather get paid than start a lawsuit to say the least.

Talking to an attorney, looking up phone numbers, filing complaints, etc is well worth it if you are owed thousands.

As for starting a lawsuit, the attorneys or prosecutors will do everything. U just sit back and wait to get paid and/or watch the court give neil his just punishment.

It's already been 5 months since the season concluded. If u haven't acted by now, what are u waiting for? Seriously. Another promise that a deal will be worked out shortly? Haven't u heard that one b4?

On top of all this, THEY WILL BE TAKING SIGNUPS FOR 2008 b4 paying the legit prize winners 5 months after the season is over!?!?!? From one suspicious business practice to another! Unreal. Stay away!

Gekko, we have had a few prior differences, but not on this - you are 100% spot on.

I understand you'd like to be Paul Revere. But this DOESN'T help.Lawsuits etc will make SURE anyone owed thousands WILL NOT see it until the lawyers that will "do everything" are finished. And that can take a while.I am appreciative that Wade at least came out and said what is going on and how they are handling their business. I'm not going to lose patients now; I've waited this long and 45-50 more days is reasonable to me.If it's not done by then, as I mentioned before; anyone that would like to can get in line with me. I'll drop the hammer. Telling people to boycott the NEW potential owner is not helpful, if they were taking money NOW, I'd be holding the lantern on the horse with you...

That's exactly what they want you to think. Give them more time. You say you'll drop the hammer on them in 45-50 days, but what if then they have a new story about someone buying the AFFL? Will you take the bait again? I gotta think if Neil was diligently trying to find a solution, he'd keep everyone updated once a week.BTW, if Neil has done something criminal (which an attorney can quickly tell you), that won't cost you a dime.If he has done something civilly, that will cost you roughly 1/3 of whatever prize money you collect.

And while all this may be correct right now.it will still be correct in 45-50 days. So rather than go down a road I don't need to (or even want to).I'll wait, it's not taking bait. It's waiting for someone do do as they say. Neil is a non factor at this point.I'll give Wade and his aprtner the time and the benefit, and IF they follow the lead of the FFPC and put the money in the attorney escrow AND pay me. I'll be happy as a lark. Without all the chest pumping and anger. Again, if not, I'm all over Neil. But I'd rather hope they come through then worry about it. I WANT them to make it work, it is good for everyone involved in Fantasy and specifically those owed money.

I agree with "Softball". I talked to Wade yesterday and he and his partner have a solid history in fantasy football and they have a reasonable plan to make the "new AFFL" work. I'm willing to give him until his "upset" date of August 1st.

If it doesn't happen, I have the Michigan AG number on my desk.

Good luck to Wade and his partner...it would be a real plus for fantasy sports if they can make it work.

 It doesn't take much to pick up the phone and explain ur story.

Where does Wickham live? Anyone know? This piece of #$%& cant return an email or a phone call???
Brass, I wouldn't make the suggestion your post represents. Not sure how much you are owed, but I'm right with you in the annoyed department, I'm owed $16,000.Neil should have been far more communicative than he's been to say the very least. We'll find out where he lives if we need to. I won't stand for this, and I have many facts about his operation to share when the time comes to use them. For now, I'm going to support the new people and look at them as potential heros rather than bash the contest(which I did enjoy) and try to pummel the future if there is one.

does your avatar contain the hammer? if so, who is the person it's about to hit? ROFLMAO :lmao:

Anyone that puts money into this is just plain stupid. They are using 2008 money to pay 2007 bills. He did this last year too. I doubt there are any real new buyers. He is just starting up the league and taking more money..If he puts this in his friends name and he can just go ahead and screw you again. He is a CON and always will be...RUN FROM HIM NEVER PLAY AFFL>>>How much new money they going to take in before they say opps Houston we Got a Problem? Neil is a scumbag who waited until the end of the season to tell us we got screwed.. I hope he rots in hell. And anyone that takes over the affl before paying 2007 winners in full, can rot in hell with him!!!!!!!

this is the email i received.....no mention of paying last years winners
DONT DO IT YOU GUYS IT IS A SCAM. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY ANYONE LET ALONE PAY THE 2008 SEASON. THINK

Haven't u heard that one b4?On top of all this, THEY WILL BE TAKING SIGNUPS FOR 2008 b4 paying the legit prize winners 5 months after the season is over!?!?!? From one suspicious business practice to another! Unreal. Stay away!
SOFTBALL, If they don't have the money to payoff first and are begging for consessions from the winners. Do you really think they are going to make it work? ITS A SCAM... Just call the Michigan AG and go with that. Dont lose more to these thiefs......

I would like to thank the Footballguys website for keeping this thread open. I am owed thousands and thousands of dollars and you are all that we have to vent. I called the AG about 5 weeks ago and will be going deeper into the legal situation very soon. I am not waiting no more phone calls, no more emails, no more BS,, Neil you are a dirtbag and you know it...........

I can't believe anyone in their right mind is advocating holding off on legal action if they are owed money. The 2007 season ended months ago, along with several "promises" of payment and more information from this scumbag. If you haven't taken the effort to try to recover what is owed to you by now, then you are truly deserving of what you are going to get---NOTHING!

Just for the record, I did not play in the AFFL last year. Just an interested bystander watching the train wreck and stupidity.

does your avatar contain the hammer? if so, who is the person it's about to hit? ROFLMAO :lmao:
All I can guess by your smiley and (ROFLAO) faces is you believe I spelled something wrong? Here you go smartguy. I'll be sure to drop my S next time just for you...

Patient

Hammer

As the saying goes, you have no "Skin in this game" and add nothing. Including your "go get a lawyer", which you clearly know nothing about.

I'll get back on topic, as I said before Fixing Cars; if the time comes. I will be first in line to go after Neil.

But being patient; I can wait 45 or so more days. Nothing between now and then that happens could be worse, only better if Wade and company come through.

From the Rules section (I've been here for man years) and respect them...IMO Tool Factor met...

#2. Keep the personal attacks way down. I understand it's football and you're passionate. I am too. But I'm seeing the tool factor going way up in some of these posts and we can't have it. Disagree, argue, debate, support, critique whatever. But if you can't keep from calling the other guy a dumb###, you won't be posting here. This is the time of year when I have 10,000 urgent things to do every day. So please don't push this.

Bottom line -

1. Keep this focused on NFL News and Player Discussion and General Strategy topics.

2. Understand most people in the Shark Pool don't care about your team and keep the focus on stuff that is applicable to all.

3. Be Excellent to One Another.

Thanks. I'm sorry to sound harsh there. It sucks playing board cop. But I place an extremely high priority on keeping the Shark Pool a great forum and on topic. And sadly, that means I have to tell some folks things they don't want to hear sometimes.

Just received a call yesterday from Wade. Sounds like they're going to make a run at turning this thing around with NEW OWNERSHIP and a TOTALLY SECURED IN ADVANCE PRIZE FUND. He said advertising has already been comitted so they're hoping for a final investor to join with them which they're in the process of finding.

The only REAL way to get this to happen is to have the support of the prize winners STILL OWED money. If they abandon ship, and do not sign back on for leagues, the likely result is nobody gets anything unless you fight for it in court.

If the prize winners DO DECIDE to come back and play, meaning part of their prize money owed is used to play in entries this year, then there's a chance this thing attempts a comeback.

The likely entry fee is $1,350 with a 35k top prize but bigger league prizes if I understood correctly.

They will also have 12 team leagues w/ 6 team playoffs, ranging from $50-$1,000 entry and maybe even a $5k league. I did ask about the $1k entry league and he said it would be a 90% payout league.

I was owed $3,300 and I basicallly told them that if this plan gets off the ground, enter me in the MAIN EVENT and the $1K league and cut me a check for the other grand. He said most folks have been supportive of their plan.

If Wade and his partner pull this off, this will go down in the books as a historic comeback for an organization.

Wishing you the best of luck, but I learned a long time ago not to chase a losing proposition.

I'm amazed at the amount of chumps in this thread.

No offense.

Nice response jackass. I'm not owed that much money $1350, so I would be more pissed if I was owed $16,000 or whatever. But what really are the options here? Do you think filing lawsuits or any of that is really going to get you the money? That's a serious question, because I really don't know. I guess I don't think that will work. So I look at it as give Wade and whoever a chance. I'm skeptical as hell and wouldn't trust anything about the league next season, but if I can drop $600 for another team (whatever that means) and get a $750 check then I'm all for it. I just think the options are so limited.

You can't come on and call people chumps and then say, "no offense", so the guy is a tool. There's absolutely no way to collect from Neil if he doesn't have anything, and from what I've heard, that's what he's got. Now I'd be happy to see him get his just due, which I'm sure will happen, but if the tool thinks coming out of pocket even more and hiring an attorney will have a positive financial impact when I'm only owed $3,300, he's quite delusional.

"from what you've heard"???? have you seen an accurate financial sheet for NEIL or are you just speculating on what Neil or someone else has said (or planted)? if i was neil, i'd be telling everyone i don't have anything (even a house, car, savings, etc...)"coming out of pocket even more and hiring an attorney"???? clearly you aren't aware how some attorneys work. some don't get paid unless you collect. you won't know if an attorney works that way, UNLESS YOU CONTACT HIM/HER.if you know a few people owed money, approach an attorney as a group and see what he/she can do. like in ANYTHING, there is a significant amount of leverage that can be derived by working as a group.

I have not stake in this matter. But for those that are saying just SUE him most attorneys will do it for a fee out of the winnings (if there are any). Guess what even if you do win Neil could appeal and guess what that is more time and money. How long are you willing to go through this is the question. Where if there is someone that is willing to say give you a portion of your winnings, and you get to play for free the next year why not take that chance?

No one is even exploring their options. People just posting "I'm going to wait" If I was owed money, I would have Neil's ### in court by now. You need to grow a set, guy. You're the same types of people who get charged 4 grand for a 200 dollar problem at the auto mechanic.Gordon Gekko is ABSOLUTELY right in what he is saying here.No one seems implored to even lift a finger to bother contacting an attorney about their options. It makes me sick to see to be honest that this guy is going to make off with your money because you are a herd of sheep. Carpe diem guy

This thread is a

why the hell would you sign up for their 2008 season?

Legacy,You and I along with the others on this thread that are owed money and have NOT called anyone anything or even suggested going to get an attorney...Make too much sense for the others with NO financial interest.Do I want to sue ASAP and get money? Sure. Does logic make that practical? No, not yet.Since Common and Gekko are so passionate about this, I will personally assure each that if/when this deal falls apart, I'll make the first phone call to the DA office nearest Neil; and come here to let them know about it.But I'll still hope AND if the new guys Escrow the money, the money WILL be there at the end of the season to pay any winners.Seems pretty simple.

Look I'm not trying to be insulting - although I realize I am and I apologize for that.I'm trying to light a fire under the azzes of the masses here.

I can appreciate that. And do respect that part. It's frustrating as hell to be honest to have won a significant amount and THEN get the call from Neil about not having the money. The masses asses will move ASAP. Neil cannot get away from that at all, which is why I don't worry about getting an attorney yet. They will find him and the participants if that's the way this ends up. You can't get blood from a stone, but you can pulverize it into dust.I am hopeful Wade is the man, and gets it done. The AFFL was a good event from what I know for 4 years, then this happened. I won't hold it against Wade because the name is AFFL. I will look at the Escrow etc again and make a decision.BTW: the assess masses thing made me laugh. Appreciate that.

I only posted a couple of times in this thread but I have to say this now. It always amazes me how stupid people can be. To the ones that are owed money and consider joining the new AFFL before getting paid, you need to take you head out of your a@#$%...seriously. I'm sorry to be rude but you have to be completely dumb to sign up for 2008 when they are telling you that they won't pay 2007 until you sign up for 08....WOW.

I guess I understand why so many people are getting away with that kind of robbery when I see so many people here giving Neil and everyone else, the benefit of the doubt...this is unbelievable....

To begin with, I have no stake in this whatsoever. I only know what I have read here, and from the interview with Neil on another site very early. Here are my innocent opinions.

Neil got stuck in over his head, thought he could save it with his 'software' and got screwed. He is guilty, however, and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. His actions do not only injure his own business, it could probably be shown to injure other FF contests financially. I would be on the phone to the AG to make sure that he can NEVER start another FF contest.

If I were owed money, I would be doing everything in my power to get it. From what I gather, we aren't talking some $50 entry fee. If I pony up serious money, put the time and effort into winning and get Neil's BS in return, I'd be pretty PO'd. What could it hurt to talk to an attorney? My only question is if the new buyers are buying the debt also, what liability does Neil have then?

I am also pulling for Wade and his partner. Hopefully they exist, and are doing all they promise. As has been said, if they turn this around it will be the biggest miracle since Cunningham's comeback season with the Vikes.

As for joining in '08, that seems like a 'feel' issue: if you feel these guys are worth the shot, do it. If not, don't. Honestly, I don't know what I would do, probably just punt.

JMHO
