Companion to the Giants scoring a TD poll.

I will be honest (and I posted it in the game thread), I thought the game was FAR from over right up until the very last play from New England. Moss almost did exactly what I thought he'd do at the end.

What did you think were the chances that NE came back and scored at the very end?

With all 3 timeouts, I thought the Pats had a good chance to get into FG range. I voted 50%.

After the sack on 2nd down, it dropped to about 1%, despite Moss' near-catch on the next play.

It was nice that the Giants didn't squib-kick. After the Pats got stopped around the 23 yard line in the final kickoff I had high hopes for the Giants. I put it at 20%.

I was about to say 50%, but I bumped it down to 40%.

I bumped it down because for the first time all season I actually thought to myself, "They're going to lose this one." Every other time I've watched NE this year, I never thought to myself that they'd lose at any point in the game. (Well, other than that brief second that I though Baltimore stopped them on 4th and 1 to only find out that Rex Ryan called a timeout.)

I figured they'd complete a 15 yard pass, spike the ball, complete another 15-yard pass, call timeout, complete another 15-yard pass, call timeout, take a shot at the endzone, then kick a FG. Or something like that.

People in my house were celebrating already and I said... NO WAY.. I've seen WAYYY too much Whacky stuff involved in Pats game to celebrate... I said, See that pass, if there' PI on that pass, it's FG time and OT just like that..... I expected some Rule, Time out, or whacky play from Mars.... Basically I expected the unexpected, it's happened so often with this team...

I bet a lot of Pat fans sat there and waited for "their gift" to arrive "like Usual" :lmao:

I'm a Pats fan and I'd say 10% or less. After that Eli escape act, I knew this Giants team was destined to win the game. It couldn't have gone down any other way.

I voted 10% as well.

What were the pats supposed to do for 30 seconds? Brady had no time to throw and they couldn't get down the field fast enough with short outs.

Their best shot was stopping the Giants last drive, which I thought they would do. Once the Giants scored I figured it was all but over. Simply not enough time to work with.

I voted 30%, not because I didn't think the Pats could do it, but because I knew the football gods were more than likely looking forward to seeming me frustrated.

That's about what I thought would happen. But I also thought they'd do the long TD to Moss which almost happened.J

I was shocked Moss didn't jump to get that ball. It was very catchable but he let it drop to him instead of getting it. That allowed the DB to make a very good play.

:jawdrop: That shocks me.To get in FG range???? Have you watched the Pats before?
Did you watch the Giants defense last night?
Brady just marched down the field on the series before and has done it probably more often and better than anyone in the game.It also seemed to me like the Giants D was tired, a few guys were on the sidelines on that prior drive - not sure if that was just part of the rotation or what but, he did get more time on that last drive..... He actually had decent time to launch those long throws at the end... A PI call might be higher than 10% chance alone on a throw by some regular QB who hasn't had a charmed life of Brady calls. Guy gets call slike Jordan and a lot of that is respect I guess.10% just seems pretty low....... I expected "something"

Problem was there was only 32 seconds left. They're only going to get ~5 to 6 plays off at best, even with 3 timeouts. I had it at 25% but after the sack, less than 10.
At the end of the first half, NE moved the ball from their 23 to the NY 44 in 37 seconds while only using 1 TO. It's not like this team hasn't gained large chunks of yardage in 30 seconds before. One of my reasons for thinking they had a decent shot was the Giants D on the Patriots previous drive. They didn't blitz a whole lot and Brady was able to move the ball down the field fairly easily. I thought they'd go into some kind of semi-prevent not wanting to get burned by Moss deep. So, given that, I thought NE would run Moss on some intermediate routes to gain some yards.

I think that play showed how much Moss and Brady trust each other. Brady just let it go into double coverage and Moss kept running trusting the ball would get to him. It was so close. But, I agree with you and was surprised Moss didn't slow down and go up for it.

Maybe. But with only 35 seconds I just didn't see it happening, regardless of how many times they'd done it before. As they had done pretty much all game, I thought the Giants DL would make a play. And with the sack on 2nd down they did, effectively ending any realistic chance of a NE score.

You are forgetting the probability of a PI call on one of the Giants D-backs that would have given the Pats the ball on about the 25 with 20 seconds or so on the clock. TPTB at NFL HQ obviously DIDN'T want the Pats to have the undefeated season and so told Ron Cary to NOT have his other officials call the PI.
