Michael Corleone is his best role. Not his best performance but definitely one of the best movie roles of all time IMO (Up there with Bill The Butcher in Gangs of NY).

Sonny in Dog Day Afternoon>everything else :2cents:

ATTICA!!!!!!!! ATTICA!!!!!!!

I will say that Lefty in Donnie Brasco was a close second, it is among the few Pacino roles where he is believable.  Terrible in the Godfather movies, the only thing flawed about those first two movies IMO.  He was the central character in III, and hence the disaster.

Scarface is great, but his acting is meh.
Uh...no.

Heat performance was ruined by the Pacino that likes to scream for no apparent reason.   Heat had two instances I can think of.

Good movie, lot of fun.  Not on the list of best Pacino roles.  If it was, then he is not a very good actor.

I liked him in Glengarry Glen Ross quite a bit ...there were a lot of great performances in that movie.

Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris and of course Alec Baldwin.  Alan Arkin was good, but not quite at the other's level.

Jonathan Pryce (James Lingk) killed it as well

Mamet's best, my favorite screenplay of all time.  remarkable work.

Agree. DeNiro showed him up in that.

In his defense Naomi Judd does have a great ###

worth screaming about.

Voted GFI, not just cause of my avatar.  The early part of the movie cinches it.  You see Mikey as a sweet romantic.  He has a bit of an edge - after all, he was a sniper in the military, but really a different guy than you see later.  And it is a very gradual transformation.

MUCH respect for his performance in Dog Day Afternoon.  Almost anyone else would have considered that their career plateau.  GFII, Donnie Brasco, GGR, Carlito's Way all stellar, and Pacino in Scarface put the ICON in iconic.  But GFI is it for me.

BTW, here's a fun mashup featuring Pacino.  http://www.someecards.com/entertainment/movies/movie-mashup-scene-hells-club/

I really want to give Godfather 3 a fair re-watch. But I feel like to do that, I have to set aside like a week to re-watch G1, digest, then G2, and digest, before diving into 3.
I don't think it's as bad as its reputation. He is good in it, and the story with the Vatican is pretty interesting. Sure Sofia Coppola was horrible as his daughter and the romance with her cousin was just weird but not enough to make it totally unwatchable.

I also think the last 20 minutes or so were very good. Wrapping up all the family affairs set to the opera backdrop. And then the very end was a powerful and fitting end to the story of Michael.

I had it on VHS back in the day, bought all three (they were all so long they were on 2 tapes each).  My room mate and I opened the cellophane wrapper and watched them in order.  Got to 3, we were totally lost and it went on forever without the credits at the beginning.  Threw in the second tape and found out we watched the ending first, then tape 1 last.  Maybe one of my best inconsequential bonehead moves ever.  Tempted to watch it again from the beginning, but I think that deep down, I know that it will still not be good.

One of my favorite movies. Such a gem of a flick. Jack Lemon was incredible in that one. Of course the rest you mentioned as well.

Just a great movie. Especially if you are in sales.
