My Nexus 6 is barely 15 months old and I hate the thing. It runs like freaking dog####. Feels like I'm trying to run Windows ME on a computer from 1982. Slow, laggy, camera takes forever to pull up and half the time throws a "can't connect to camera" error. I can't even begin to fathom the number of pics/videos of my young kids I've missed because of this PoS. All of this after multiple factory resets to make sure it wasn't some rogue app slowing things down.I'm not really sure what anyone's really getting from more recent phones that they don't already have.
The phones are getting good enough these days that I feel like as long as you can keep the phone in good shape (read, not dropping it, soaking it, or losing it/getting it stolen) and do a reasonable job of cleaning it up from time to time (deleting things you don't really use, cleaning the cache, etc), that there's little reason you can't get multiple years out of a phone.. switching yearly or even every two years seems financially dump.
I have an s4 mini and other than some camera power and processing speed and battery life (which is a non-issue given swappable battery) I'm not sure what people with a galaxy s7 are really getting out of their phone that I'm not.

If the current offerings are barely better than this pile of garbage then it leaves me worried about the future of Android and what the OS is demanding from the hardware anymore. Will never go back to Apple and their ties to that horrid piece of software that is iTunes, so it looks like I'm stuck with it.
I do wonder how much is the Nex 6 getting current Android updates, and those updates just asking for more from the phone than a year+ old model can provide. My last phone was a Galaxy S3 that worked fine for a good 2 years before it turned to crap (after a long awaited Android update that the phone just couldn't handle). Either way, no way in heck I'm buying another Nexus phone going forward. I've never hated a phone this much.
Note 7 sales suspended and Samsung has issued a recall due to exploding batteries.
Was going to go take a look at these this weekend....perhaps a buy one get one is on the horizon to try and kick start sales again once they figure out why things went sideways.Anyone have opinions on the Moto G? I see it's just under $200, thinking about replacing my Nexus 5.I'm currently using my Nexus 5 and the battery gets me 12-14 hours on a day when I'm not really using the phone, so that doesn't help. I'm anxiously awaiting the next line of Nexus phones to come out. If they don't seem special, is there a consensus best choice out there for a phone-sized phone with great specs and battery life? Don't care about wireless charging. Biggest phone I've ever had was this one and my iPhone 6 (for work). Never felt like they were small, but if a bigger one is better I'm not opposed.
I was this close to going and getting one today. Of course I have the fever now; might go get the S7 Edge.Note 7 sales suspended and Samsung has issued a recall due to exploding batteries.
Yah, this should work.Helped me to wipe the cache.
Yes, for the Note 7. I was in a Verizon store this afternoon and was told they got pulled from the shelves this morning. I think the problem was with just one of several battery manufacturers. Hopefully they identify the problem batteries quickly and get the devices back on the shelf. I'm going to hold out for week and see what happens. So is there a recall for this?
Stick with samsung next time. So much easier to transition phones when you stay with a brand. My Nexus 6 is barely 15 months old and I hate the thing. It runs like freaking dog####. Wife has it. I don't like how the power button is tucked under the chassis. Probably better for drops (that's what broke on Nexus 5 oddly), but a small annoyance. Other than that, it's decent esp. for the price, but won't turn any heads in a beauty contest.Anyone have a Moto G?
Opinions on it?
Would be going from a Nexus 5
Thanks!Wife has it. I don't like how the power button is tucked under the chassis. Probably better for drops (that's what broke on Nexus 5 oddly), but a small annoyance. Other than that, it's decent esp. for the price, but won't turn any heads in a beauty contest.
Use Ting, on the Sprint NetworkWhat carrier you coming from? I'm not too impressed with the LenMoto group. Also budget? I'm waiting for the LG V20 announcement tomorrow to decide but i'm seriously contemplating just grabbing a OnePlus 3 for $399 for top/middlish specs. Not sure if thats something even on your radar.
Love the Nexus 6, which you can pick up for $200 on eBay.My OnePlus One died yesterday. RIP.
Need to get a new phone stat. Was eyeing the OnePlus 3, but it ships "within 8 days". FML. Shoulda bought when my first started the downhill descent.
I'm interested in the Nexus 6 or 6P, but don't want to shell 500 for a new 6P since this is all out of pocket for me. Thoughts? Moto X?
On Ting also.
Wife is on the same account with Ting and has Moto G, but maybe I could get the Nexus 6 on Ting for now and then move us over to Fi at some point.Love the Nexus 6, which you can pick up for $200 on eBay.
ETA: get it and switch to Google Fi.
Shoulda waited a month. The next generation Nexus phones (Pixel) drop early next month.Nexus 6 is on its way. I just need a phone that works consistently.
Thanks cstu!
I'm on day 2 with FM radio on my commute. I can't wait. Trust me.Shoulda waited a month. The next generation Nexus phones (Pixel) drop early next month.
For 3x what a Nexus 6 would cost and for a screen that is 0.6 inches smaller. Get the Pixel in a couple of years.Shoulda waited a month. The next generation Nexus phones (Pixel) drop early next month.
Meh. I'm not worried. They have to say that.Samsung saying to turn off your Note 7 and not use it until you get a replacement. Going back to iOS.
Have they released more info on the Pixels now?For 3x what a Nexus 6 would cost and for a screen that is 0.6 inches smaller. Get the Pixel in a couple of years.
I've only seen rumors. Supposedly being announced 10/4 with release on 10/20. Sounds like HTC is making them.Have they released more info on the Pixels now?
That LG V20 looks pretty slick though.Looks like a ####ty time to need a new phone. Hopefully this one holds out a few more weeks so I can get the Pixel (assuming it is OK)
Yes, it does. The only negative I can find about it is the IPS screen, but that's hardly a dealbreaker. The removable battery is huge though. That LG V20 looks pretty slick though.
Is it really a debate? Besides the "spec is dead" guy complaining about microSD speed, I have never heard anyone mention itTime to end the removable storage debate - Samsung has created UFS (Universal Flash Storage) cards that are as fast as SSD (read 530 MB/s). Should be the end of microSD eventually.
My N6 has definitely been starting that decline as well, but not as bad as you're describing. They probably do it on purpose, because spec wise there is no reason for it to not still be humming along fine.As some Nexus 6 owners can attest to, the phone is just slowly crapping out. Apps are taking longer and longer to open, multiple taps to get things to register on the screen, lag and lag and lag and lag some more. I've tried doing a factory reset every other week with no appreciable difference other than the first day or two. Clearing the cache memory is just a bandaid for a short period of time. I may try installing a custom Rom since this won't be my daily driver anymore and the phone is already rooted.
So I ordered a Oneplus 3, Spigen case, and a six pack of micro usb/usb c adapters and I'm all in for under $430.
I've seen the renders of the new "Pixel" phones and boy do they look like ####. Only redeeming quality is the use of the Snapdragon 821 (if true) and quicker updates. And with inflated full pricing their going to push I couldn't justify it. Also if I don't care for the device I'll just wait till the next product cycle to show up in 6 months.
You should be charging it in your oven until it catches fire. Then pick it up with your left hand so you have a few burns. Then post the pics on social media, and thank me later.Pretty excited to go into a store and return my new Note 7. :killsself:
I absolutely love my Nexus 6P. What didn't you like about it?My N6 has definitely been starting that decline as well, but not as bad as you're describing. They probably do it on purpose, because spec wise there is no reason for it to not still be humming along fine.
I hope they don't go overboard with the Pixel pricing. I didn't care for the last gen of Nexus devices and I don't want to pay full freight for the Pixel.
Does it use the Yahoo Weather api as the source? all sorts of weather widgets have been having issues with that lately. Take a peek at Weather Timeline when you get a chance, it lets you pick your source and may do the trick for youAnyone else having trouble with the Transparent Weather widget?
All of a sudden it stopped working last night, and I reinstalled it today and true to it's name it's quite transparent as I can't see it or get it to stick to my home page.
Any ideas?
Yes, trade that one in too.I just had to trade in my Galaxy S6 after only 10 months of use. Samsung sent me a refurbished one since mine was still under the 1 year warranty. My S6 kept freezing and saying that my sim card wasnt in. Even after factory reset it still had these issues. Would happen 10-15 times a day. Anyways my new S6 gets hot at times and uses a lot of my battery (much more than my original), especially if I dont clear my recent used apps. Is there a trick to this? Any way to not have the recently used apps option? I dont want this thing to catch on fire.
I just don't like how it looks and it didn't seem like much of an upgrade from the prior year.I absolutely love my Nexus 6P. What didn't you like about it?
Not sure what you dont like about the looks, but... Better battery, finger print scanner, better screen, Type C, far better camera, and better reception.I just don't like how it looks and it didn't seem like much of an upgrade from the prior year.
Every phone is virtually identical and most of us put a case on them anyway.I just don't like how it looks and it didn't seem like much of an upgrade from the prior year.
Since your Nexus 6 is already rooted, have you tried turning off encryption and setting the resolution at 1080?As some Nexus 6 owners can attest to, the phone is just slowly crapping out.
