Are there any apps or tricks to increase the volume on Nexus devices? The audio on my 4&7 both suck at max volume. Maybe I'm just getting old.
If your rooted, I posted one already:

Thanks. I did see that earlier but I'm not rooted, worried I'll break my phone :bag:
N5's are easier to root. In fact, that's why people buy N5's. N5s have devs all over it. You have the perfect device for root. Go over to XDA's thread on it. The N5 is an awesome device. Learn how to root it, and profit. I dunno if your device is on warranty, but the reason why it's inexpensive IMO is because it's pure Android (which is best), and the hardware is great spec at the price point, meaning that the only need in replacement is breaking the phone physically, not bricking it.

Read this forum first. Then decide. Root will make you free. Trust me. I rooted my device as soon as I could, even though I broke my warranty, because I hate being locked down. I'm on a Samsung GS3. Rooted. Even with now a locked bootloader. I'd rather an N5 right now, but now waiting for the N6.

ETA: sorry, I read N5, not N4. I suggest waiting for both Nexus phones and/or tablets. Invest in both hardware upgrades. Android is fast becoming backwards compatible, but the good thing is they are also make premium spec inexpensive, and unlocked. Seriously, Google is the best thing for hardware right now. You have great spec at the price point, now that can get into unlocked. It's all the other OEMs and carriers that make Android worse. Especially Samsung and Verizon. They are both sort of anti-American. #### them both. It's the platform first. Not the OEM or the carrier.

They won't do it to your phone. Just every other phone. Except the Nexus, which they won't ####### carry.

But it is pre-install a bunch of worthless apps that you can't uninstall without rooting your phone.

Bluetooth volume question. I use my phone to play spotify, podcasts etc via bluetooth in my car. The sound and connectivity are pretty impressive but the only thing that bothers me is that every time I get in and it begins to play I have to rocker the volume button all the way up and I get a warning from Google saying something on the lines of "that listening to music etc can be damaging, do you want to raise the volume.?"

Now I have the volume for media set at the highest under the volumes option section and I still get asked every time I want it turned it up. Any help?

You can try an app like Hearing Saver.

But before that, you might want to see if this works. Open the stock Music app, go to Settings, and turn Smart volume on. I read that as a random hint to keep the volume warning from popping up, and it worked for me when I use my headphones, even on apps like Pocket Cast. I actually appreciate that it still lowers the volume a bit when I put in my headphones, but I don't want the warning when I try to then turn it louder. This worked for me, but I'm not sure it works for bluetooth.

Android on VZW is not good. Especially with anything Samsung. It IS not only anti-American, but almost anti-Google. Updates? Fuggedabout it. They control the updates, not Google.

You won't find many if not any pure vanilla Android on VZW, except maybe the MotoX, because VZW and Sammy want to lock devices down.

Get off of VZW now, unless you're on iPhone.

OK I'M SICK OF KITKAT BORKING MY SD CARD YES I HAVE THE NECESSARY TWEAKS BUT IT STILL DISMOUNTS AT WILL WHATS THE USE OF HAVING EXTERNAL STORAGE WHEN GOOGLE NOW HATES IT I BLAME ALL THOSE WHO THINK PUTTING AN APP ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD YOU HAVE AT LEAST 16 GIGS NOW IF YOU AREN'T ON ANCIENT HARDWARE USE THAT FOR APPS YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE 16 GIGS WORTH OF APPS ON YOUR DESKTOP PC THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE FLAT OUT DOING ANDROID WRONG TAKE THAT TO THE BANK BROHANS

So if you are fine with your phone the way it is and don't want to unlock it Verizon fine. It's the best coverage in my area compared to the other 3.

Drummer is one of those if you use Verizon and or Samsung and don't root your phone you are not a real android user person guy

Nothing wrong with that but just because we are satisfied with our use of android doesn't mean we aren't android users some of us are able to do it but don't put in the effort

Case in point: I have a buddy who is hardcore Android, who bought an S5 Dev Edition unlocked, while on Verizon. Only reason he is on VZW is because he still has the grandfatherd unlimited data plan. Even he knows not to take OTA's without checking XDA first, knows about Knox, locked bootlaoders, etc.

I'm only trying to help people out here. You want an Android version of a walled garden? Go ahead and listen to belljr. You might as well buy an iPhone, and toss any development, cutting edge out the window.

Because you all are doing it wrong.

Yeah well, there are those who don't want Nova Launcher either. But guess what? That's why we have Devs, for those who do.

Oh I'm sorry. My non rooted Samsung note 3 running kit Kat doesn't Bork my SD card

I badly wanted to get away from Verizon on principle, but the $60 plan roped me back in. Between the service and the subsidized phone, they didn't really leave me a choice.

I'm not a rooter, and that's why I find them annoying. I don't want to have to root or get an iPhone just to get a phone without a bunch of crap that gets updates quickly.

This is for advanced, rooted users only (sorry belljr). I don't think devs particularly like this app, since it can unlock paid apps into full function from non upgrade to full upgrade. I dunno if it's even on Play Store, or even XDA, but I've tested it out, and use with caution. It's great for killing ads though. Again, like anything else, use at your own volition.

Why are you sorry. I've been on android since it's inception. I feel no need to root anymore. Doesn't mean I can't appreciate applications that are available. Not sure why you're so angry

So you're saying this isn't a problem?

You can bag out of this thread anytime now.
The other day I was downloading podcast from doggcatcher and it said not enough space. I looked around the folders and couldn't figure out where it was saving them. I bet this was the problem. My internal is getting low.

Try this:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix&hl=en

A lot of KK users swear by it.

I'm not trying to be difficult here I'm really not but how do I have apps that write to my SD card on 4.4.2?

serious question

found my answer i think

Google see's this as a security flaw

and has fixed the issue by not allowing apps to write to the SD card. Instead, when apps are installed they are given a folder on

the SD card that they are allowed to use, so apps can only access their own files.

BTW, all anybody has to do is search Verizon Shady Business Practice on Google. They are notorious for it, all the way back to the RAZR flip phones. This isn't anything new.

Drummer serious question. I can move files, downlaod directly to the sd card, use my file manager freely back and forth. Is it limited to certain phones?

I think it's a permissions issue with KK, and if you read that XDA article's comments section, you'll see Note users having the SD card issues. I think it's more apps writing to the card, like say your camera app storing the files there, rather than you moving files yourself. Google saw all kinds of fragmentation there, and with they wanting to get more into enterprise, security and such, decided to not support SD cards as well as they used to.

Also, they are moving away from Dalvik to ART (look that up because I can't explain it well) when L comes out, so I dunno if that has anything to do with it.

Hmmm odd. Maybe i got lucky. I haven't noticed any issues. My camera saves right to my card, podcasts download etc

thanks

My buddy with the S5 has the same issues I do, and it's a real PITA overall. Espceially the whole FAT issues and formatting. A lot of people would rather Google support the Linux ext format for SD cards since Android is based on Linux. I just want it to stop unmounting, lol.

Android absolutely sucks with SD cards. I gave up on it a while ago. Complete waste for anything except loading up a bunch of MP3s/movies.

What's the best camera app out there? I rooted and flashed an AOSP ROM few months ago and really miss the Samsung camera. Haven't found anything comparable yet.

So, does everyone just use Hangouts as their main texting app?

I'm too lazy to try out all these other apps. Do any have any special feature that makes them worth ditching Hangouts?

I did see that 8sms is likely going under.

I use Hangouts for all my texting. Don't have any complaints about it. Don't really see a reason to switch to something else.

I tried Hangouts a year ago and didn't like that it was trying to add video, phone, etc. I just wanted to text someone. I've tried handcent, 8sms and textra. I'm on Textra and it's exactly what I'm looking for: simple interface, does group texts without a hitch, doesn't force you into a closed network, just enough customization to make the interface work for me and quick reply from the lock screen.

New camera app Camera51

Camera51 automatically detects and analyzes faces, scenes, objects and lines and guides you to the perfect frame in every click.Camera51invites you to start taking photos like a professional. It uses photography principals used by professional photographers and artists and applies this vast and amazing knowledge in a fun and simple interface.

All you have to do is place the smartphone icon in the "Aim-Box" and BAM! you've got yourself a photo that looks like a million bucks.

Features:
• Auto framing / auto composition technology: Identifies and automatically selects the main objects and lines of the photo to determine real time framing guidance.
• Perfect selfie: snap the ultimate selfie whether by yourself or in a group with the front-facing camera.
• Manual object selection: Users have the option to manually select an object by just tapping the screen, to determine framing guidance, focus, and exposure.
• Multi object selection: Allows users to select up to three different objects of interest per photo.
• Peripheral object alert: Enables the app to notify you of prominent objects that may interfere with your frame boundaries.

It is rare that I text, but I do use hangouts for it when I do. I use Hangouts for instant messaging in place of actual texting.

I never really used/knew anything about google talk and voice, but yes, I think Hangouts replaced Talk and just merged/integrated with Voice.

New game called Brick Down looks interesting

The goal is to knock down green figures from the platform, by simply touching the screen. As the game progresses you will need to consider:
- The wind is affecting the trajectory of the throw
- Red shapes that do not drop to the floor
- Blue figures, which can not fall from the platform

You will need all your skill and a little bit of thinking!

The game will provide 45 different levels in three-dimensional space, a unique and simple physics based gameplay with simple control, and nice music!
