All Android/Google All the Time (1 Viewer)

Having spent some time with the Moto E4 and Moto G6 Play, I can say Moto is really doing well with the cheap phones, particularly if you are on Verizon or want a phone compatible for all carriers. Xiaomi, Nokia, and Honor seem to have some great cheap phones, but best I can tell, the Moto phones are the main sub $200 phones that work on Verizon (or $250 for the regular G6).

The G6 Play is a great size (5.7 with the tall skinny 18:9 thing), has a huge battery (4000 mAh), and the fingerprint scanner seems perfectly located. It's underpowered and doesn't do well at all on on the geek tests, but for day to day use, it's fine. I don't notice any lagging for scrolling/watching videos, and the 720 screen doesn't bother me at all (and if it means 3 days on a single charge, I probably prefer it). Camera ain't great, but obviously, you aren't getting a fantastic camera for $190. I might've thought about going a little higher to the regular G6, but I prefer a little cheaper and a longer battery life.

I like the E4 quite a bit for a super-cheap ($125) phone. It's a great option for kids, or other non-power users that just need a good solid phone that does all the basics well.

The notch stood out to me too. I'm sure I'll get used to it, just like I did the ginormous bezels on the 1st gen XL I still have.
Same here. Other than some Bluetooth problems the 1st Gen has been fantastic. Might just keep it another year. ?

Likely just going with the Pixel 3 this year, not the XL.

3 is bigger than normal, as is, doesnt have that nasty notch either. or the chin.

The 3 actually is the best looking pixel.... ever?

Just bought both kids Moto G6 unlocked from Costco.

Setting up and playing with them is making me rethink the plan to spend ~$1000 this fall/winter on a new phone.

What did you pay?

I got the G5+ for $189 from there, thinking about going to the G6

Im likely doing the same. I couldn't understand why they didn't make the 2 look like the 2XL only smaller. Looks like they did that with the 3 and 2XL instead... hopefully it has a better screen though

Like the rest of the Android world, I'm keeping my eye on long term reviews of the PocoF1. If the specs of the F1 perform as expected, it's $300 price will be a game changer.

Seems to be $230-235 on Amazon. Sometimes the Prime Exclusive version is the lower price. The Prime Exclusive versions aren't annoying or anything (assuming you are an Amazon user). Just comes with the main Amazon apps preloaded, many of which an Amazon person would download anyway. The only ad experience is an ad at the top of the screen to the right of the homescreen.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in order to get it here you will be paying way more than that hyped price and giving up features I assume most people here desire (HD streaming, LTE, NFC, etc)?

Just go with the One+6 imo.

I tried to purchase the One+6 a few months ago, their site didn't accept AmEx (my corporate card). We'll find our soon enough if the Poco will be as good as on paper.

Hows the camera on the Poco?  A budget phone with a killer camera would be a real game changer... there was a rumor of a third cheaper pixel with the same camera but a slightly slower processor coming in Q1 2019. Id be down with that trade.

All the reviews I've seen (if you believe them to be unbiased & not sponsored by Xiaomi) seem to say it's comparable to the One+6 camera. Nobody is putting it in the S9+ or Pixel2 tier.

OP6 camera doesnt seem too bad though except low light so maybe that wouldnt be too bad.  Like you said, always gotta take them with a grain of salt though.

Anyone looking forward to the MadeByGoogle event tomorrow?  I know the pixel 3 has been leaked to death but kinda looking forward to checking out the Slate

For one of the phones, no. For the rest of the goodies then yes. New ones look uglier than sin and if pressed to buy a new one it'd be the Oneplus 6T. Still rocking the 3T and will run until the Snapdragon 855 Oneplus 7 comes out next year.
If they were on Verizon I'd have purchased a OP6 already... sound like great phones

I'll be tuning in. Curious to see if Google pulled a fast one with all the leaks, but I doubt it. My OG XL is still running just fine but since my company essentially pays for my phone I might pull the trigger depending on what they show. If the rumors about the HTC team going all in on the 4 I may wait a year.

The thing that really irks me with the Pixel line is how lazy the designers are. The company that owns and innovates with Android and they can't be bothered to try and push the envelope when it comes to design. Push out a minor update on one and make the other a crappy iPhone copy. Good job Google, let other companies show you how to make an attractive and innovative device.
Except the notch is anything but attractive. Oof.

pending on what we learn today, I'll be going with the Pixel 3, not the XL.

Then again, depending on price, I may just go with my first ever iPhone.

We'll see.

They may have another phone up their sleeves... but if they do it will not be available for months.

ETA: I am completely indifferent toward notches, but that 3xl one sure looks goofy.

notch doesn't bother me.

I still think my Pixel Xl is my favorite phone ever. And in no rush to trade it in.

I was a little "upset" that the original XL was "small" compared to my previous phones

Rumors I saw on AC Forums were

P3 64GB $749
P3 128GB $849
P3XL 64GB $849
P3XL 128GB $949

Second thought, my notebook sucks but aren't you in Canada? Those prices were based on some Canadian leak with exchange rate figured in. I'll see if I can find the link again

I'm close to pulling the trigger on my first ever iPad if the new 12.9" Pro is everything that is expected. But I'm still android all the way with phones. Mostly because I don't want to carry something that expensive around with me EVERYWHERE.

If you are planning to wait until Xmas anyway I'd give these less expensive models a long look to at least compare....

https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/huawei-honor-10,lenovo-s5-64gb,nubia-z18-mini,xiaomi-mi8-se-6gb-64gb

.... the nice thing is these will likely all go on deep discounts on 11/11 Day. As always, click the 4G frequencies to ensure they work with your favorite carrier.

In particular that Lenovo S5 which is a more than fair price of $136 right now would seem tempting. There's a chance it may drop below $100 on 11/11(assuming you are ordering from mobile). Just as a data point for you I have ordered from the TomTop website before with success although it does have an overall mediocre review as a retail site. That may be because most of these Chinese shipped phones take several weeks to reach the U.S. unless you pay for expedited shipping and not all U.S. customers are ready for that wait....

I'm not going to say Google blew it, because the device appears to be the best Android option. However, there weren't really any surprises thanks to the leaks, and the pre-order perk is a wireless charging stand... Meh.

The original pixel pre-orders gave the daydream headset.

I've used my Daydream headset approximately 8 times since then. It's not very friendly with other VR apps that aren't "Daydream apps". Or I could be stupid. I'd lean towards the latter.

I had no option for a free charging stand. But I ordered the phone through Fi. It seems the stand is a perk if you're ordering through the VZW app.

I really like the Pixel 3 and the software additions they made for it, but for $799... F that.

Slate looked pretty nice.

Home Hub for $150 seems like a good product and a good price.

If i get the Pixel 3 at some point don't think I'll go XL since the "regular 3" is the same size as my XL
I'm right with you on this.  My original pixel works great still.  I just don't see anything that I have to have right now.  I will probably wait until early 2019, when there is a price drop, or if the original pixel begins to slow down.  I'm also not going XL this time.

If you wait that long might as well check out the Galaxy S10 which is supposed to be a pretty sweet phone. Bonus: no stupid notch. Think that's my next phone after my pixel XL. Supposed to be very pricey though.

I used to be a huge Samsung guy. Had note 3 5 ? 7 that blew up.

I'll never go back :)

I"m not trying to dissuade you either way but the physical dimensions are very similar between the OG XL and the 3 XL. The difference is much more screen size (i.e. less bezel, more notch lol).

OG XL - 3XL  - 3
6.09in - 6.22in - 5.72in
2.98in - 3.02in - 2.69in
0.33in - 0.31in - 0.31in

After today I'm assuming the S9 was the last of the $650 flagships we'll see from the biggest brands (excluding OnePlus of course)
