All Android/Google All the Time (7 Viewers)

Anyone got a Pixel 3 in here yet? Due for a new phone at the new year and starting to gather ideas. I like changing things up, but I'm strictly Android. Last phone was a galaxy S8+, so any Samsung is out for this cycle. Haven't had a google phone yet so considering this.

I'm still rocking my OG Pixel.

Best phone I've owned.   Sorry that probably doesn't help

I have the Pixel 3XL, upgraded from the OG Pixel XL. What would you like to know?

Mainly, biggest thing for me when when looming for a new phone is battery life. I've heard it's very average, which is to say it may struggle to get through a whole day with moderate use.

How has your experience been? Can you get through a typical day? Any need for midday, early evening recharges?

So far so good. I was a former Galaxy owner as well so I think stock Android really helps in that area. I can get through a day to about 30-40%. And that's with plenty of crushing candy. Though if you're a hard core gamer or are watching a ton of video, YMMV. It has an adaptive battery feature. Battery life didn't start off as great but I feel like it "learned" my usage and optimized things for the better.

The quick charge is really fast. IIRC I ran it down early on and went from like 10% -> 90% in under an hour. I got the Pixel Stand as well. It says "charging quickly" but it's a bit slower.

Awesome then. I still have a month to look around but I'm like 95% sure this is what I'll be going with.

Just curious, this isn't any major deal breaker for me or will have any influence in whether I purchase or not, but do you use that call screening feature the phone has? If so do you find it does its job well? Not a big deal for me, I just find it an interesting feature.

And thanks a lot for the response.

I have not tried it yet. I just haven't really had the opportunity. Agree that it is a nice feature. I'm actually excited to try the night shot feature they just put into the camera

FYI after normal usage so far today I'm at 66%

Just switched from nexus 6 to Huawei honor mate se. Around 200 bucks.

Besides loss of wireless charging, everything is an upgrade. Faster. WAY better battery life, finger unlock, and SD card gives me 64 plus 128 gb of space. Functionally, phone is essentially mirror version of my nexus setup with nothing downsides. Very happy with the change.

I'm content with my S7 Edge, but damn Verizon just sent me an ad offering an S9 and an A8 tablet for $20/month, and I can add a watch for another $5/month.  Deal ends today.

Generally, I hate carrying a device payment for 24 months, but this is tempting.

So has anyone grabbed the 6T? Curious as to the real world accuracy of the fingerprint sensor is. Going to upgrade to the 7 when released and wondering if Oneplus will stick with the optical sensor or go with Qualcomm's biometric scanner.
My 3 fingerprint scanner has never failed me.. quick and always works first try.  No idea if there is a difference, but if anything I'd assume it could only be better now?

That is tempting.  My S7 is now two years old.  Only real problem is the battery life

Oh Verizon.  What was I thinking?  Did not realize I had to add a line for the tablet ($10/mo), and another $10/mo for a line access fee for the watch. Add another $13/mo for device protection, phone only, and we're talking $58/month.  Not a terrible price for all that hardware, but it moved the needle back to zero.

whats the choice for smart watches?   I'm not a watch guy at all I got a free S2  2 - 3 years ago?   Stopped wearing it (wore no watch).  Recently started to give it another go.  I didn't activate the phone number on it or anything.   Not sure I really need on as I don't get the fully function out of it I don't think.

I did transfer music to it so I can just use the watch withou my phone nearby if I'm out in the yard etc.

i decided i'm riding my pixel OG into the ground.   not that i was on the cell phone hamster wheel completely.

I would get a new phone every couple years but it was always a 2 for 1 or prior years model etc.

THe pixel was the first phone - i got at launch.  Its over 2 years old now and works great. Battery is starting to show a little wear - i think.

hoping to get at least another year with it

I think that is a great plan!  Worst case scenario is that you turn to custom ROMs for performance boosts or have to change out the battery yourself.

As for watches?  Nothing really... the latest Samsung one always seems to be the best.  I have very little interest in them at this point.

Yeah. The only reason I even have my Gear S2 was it was free with my wife's phone.

I'm still on the fence with them.  And I'll probably not see the need again in another month :)

Same with my oneplus 3.

It works fine, and I can't find a tangible difference in today's phones.  Faster processors and better cameras?  Maybe, but when I mess with them I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't tell me.

I'm riding with you on the Pixel 1.  I thought I lost it last weekend when it fell out of my hoodie pocket, and dangled a foot down in the water attached to the headphone cord.  I thought for sure it would have been water damaged seeing as I have replaced a pixel already from water damage.  Amazingly, I swung the water out of it, dried it off really good, hair dried the holes, and it's fine.

I'm not a jewelry watch guy at all but decided to pick up the Galaxy Watch got it for 100 off.

I'll probably only use about 20% of it's capabilities but I really like it.  Has a good size and weight.  Think it looks good (like an actual watch)

So far very pleased

A GB has the the one before the latest one and it looks pretty nice.  I think they are a neat toy, and if I got one for free, I would give it a spin, but other than that I just don't have the need right now,

yeah - i had the s2 for free.

Bounced back and forth with it.

never quite dug it.

Saw this was on sale, and went and messed with it and kind of dug it.

Impulse buy that I'll regret soon

Welp my pixel must have known I was starting to have my eye wander....the battery started going to crap.  and it's not from anything I installed cuz I can't tell you the last time I installed something.

so I took advantage of the Verizon special and got three hundred bucks off to pixel XL 3.

probably could have got another six months out of my phone as long as I charged it in the afternoon.

But overall this thing is the teets

ETA: I looked into buy the replacement battery myself but once I saw i had to physically unglue the screen and separate it then re-glue it back on - I was out

Congrats on the new device.  I think I'm one of the only remaining original Pixel fbgs.

Does anyone know where you can get an unlocked phone with at least 4 GB RAM, 128 GB memory,  and octa-core processor with at least 2.5 Ghz for less than $250?

That's not Apple or Samsung.... And preferably not used...
Oh, new? You're not... unless you do a deep dive into international phones that may not support all the North America bands you need.  Moto G7 and Nokia 7.1 are close.   Maybe one of the Huawei Honor phones?  You have to make sacrifices somewhere in the price range if you want new.

Enjoying the the 3 so far!!   Couple little quirks I'm not used too

Still messing with the stand - and turning off the assistant on some stuff.  its overly annoying.

the notch i don't even notice now.

And holy crap is there a difference in battery - i know its better but mine was 100% officially on its last legs - i use the new pretty much teh same - with all my apps transferred over and I'm currently sitting at 75%   where I would have had to plug my OG in by now

Depends

If all you care about is the specs for the best price(as it sounds like you do) I would probably take a flyer on a Vargo VX3. It's a third tier manufacturer but it's a good vendor and at $110 what are you really risking? It has a SLIGHTLY slower processor(8x2.3Ghz)......

https://www.banggood.com/Vargo-VX3-5_7-Inch-HD-3500mAh-6GB-RAM-128GB-ROM-Helio-P20-2_4GHz-Quad-Core-4G-Smartphone-p-1388933.html?utm_campaign=Kimo30&utm_content=Isabela&p=QV2409786796201409DB&ID=236&cur_warehouse=CN

If you don't care about brand BUT you want a major brand that you are more likely to have heard of then I'd suggest the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite but it costs a lot more and has a slightly slower processor(8x2.2Ghz)......

https://es.aliexpress.com/item/Versi-n-Global-Xiaomi-mi-8-Lite-6GB-RAM-128GB-ROM-6-26-19-9-Pantalla/32951331944.html?af=219346&aff_platform=aaf&cpt=1552480367560&afref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kimovil.com%2Fto%2FGPWBGD&cn=15716&onelink_item_from=32951331944&dp=12%3A%3A219346%3A%3A17adec1a-458c-11e9-ad0e-0ac209a0733c%3A%3A%3A%3A1552480366&onelink_thrd=0.0&onelink_page_from=ITEM_DETAIL&onelink_item_to=32951331944&cv=12&pvid=29d14f75-f5a2-48bd-ad34-4751083b9171&onelink_duration=1.432283&sk=Y7bAZbY&aff_trace_key=b85ea8562b0c4c019b9967f264d676c2-1552480367560-04206-Y7bAZbY&onelink_status=noneresult&scm=1007.22893.125764.0&terminal_id=42ddc8a7299f46aa9a9b2ac64a6f3b50&onelink_page_to=ITEM_DETAIL

To me the goldy-locks intersection of these two is the Umidigi F1 which I recently ordered myself, but still haven't received so I can't give you any feedback. I would describe Umidigi as a second tier Chinese product. This was the best solution for me because of the battery capacity and it has a ton of different 4gLTE frequencies for international travel but the trade-off is it's the thickest, heaviest, and has the slowest processor of the three(8x2Ghz)...

https://en.efox-shop.com/mobile-phones/non-european-union-version-umidigi-umi-f1-4gb-ram-128gb-rom-helio-p60-mtk6771-20ghz-octa-core-63-i-g-316242

If you were willing to go for 64gb of storage on the device with an memory card slot you would likely have a lot more options, but the limiting factor here is probably the 8x2.5Ghz processor that you are after. I assume you want to game(or edit video?) on the device? Everyone uses their mobile devices differently so I have no qualms with what you after.... I just have never felt any lag in a phone with 6x1.8Ghz processors before based on how I use them. But I don't game often or edit any video on a phone.

Thank you! Exactly what I wanted. And that UMIDIGI F1 actually might be more up my alley. That's a nice sized battery, with fast charging included. That vargo is fast, but only running on nougat. Let me know how you like the F1 when you get it.

I've had it for a week or so and am pretty happy with it so far.

+ Fingerprint sensor is one of the best I have owned. Very little lag.

+ Built in speaker is very loud(but I don't think it's the best quality sound)

+ Notches don't bother me a great deal, but I do appreciate the fact the notch is as small as possible

+ Included case is pretty good which is a bigger feature than it would be with a Samsung/apple device because there are hardly any 3rd party options available

+ The processor has been snappy enough for me despite the fact it's slower than the one on my last phone

+ I've never had so many bands of 4G coverage. In the past it's been an issue ensuring my phone had the correct band for the country I was entering. This phone feels like it has nearly every band of 4G.

+ 128GB of internal storage is the largest I've ever had, plus it still has a slot for a memory card for videos.

Not everything is perfect though...

- This was meant to be my "goldilocks" phone. I had a daily driver which was about the same size that had a faster processor but only a 5.5" screen, 4000mAh battery. I had a travel phone that was bigger and had a slower processor but a 6.5" screen, 4000mAh battery. Since the Umidigi F1 has a 5000+mAh battery, and only a 6.3" screen I was really hoping to see a big bump in battery life but have only noticed a slight bump in battery life. Part of this could be at least one of my old phones was only 720p. I may have to use the "Greenify" app to really get the battery life that I'm looking for unless I'm willing to carry along a power brick on my longer flights.

- I wish it had a notification LED even if that meant it had a slightly bigger notch.

Overall I am very happy with the phone and continue to be completely baffled why people spend over $200 for a phone. I'm not saying it's the perfect phone but the difference between a sub-$200 phone and a $1200 phone has never been smaller imo.

Ok i need some Android help.

My wife had a galaxy s7.   Google maps stopped the ability to find a route. It would say something went wrong.  The gps would find her locations, she can even search the area but could never get a route for her destination.  It stared a couple weeks ago.

I tried everything in the book minus factory reset. Cleared data , cash, uninstall updates etc etc.

Yesterday - she got a new S10.   She has the same freaking problem!!!! I'm at a loss.  We did install her phone based off the back up of the old phone.  Something has to be corrupt but I have no clue what.   Something on the SD card/  I just put that in.  I'm stumped.

This is probably a bug with the way Google Maps/Samsung is interacting.  Try and download an earlier version of Google maps.  I'm not sure how to revert updates, but I'd start trouble shooting there.  Also maybe test the Google maps widgets and see if you can reproduce the same problem.

I bought a new unlocked Moto g6 over the weekend for 150 dollars.

I am pretty impressed so far with it's speed and camera, I do not see the need for Samsung or apple.

Does it work if she goes through Google assistant?  Like if she has maps closed and says, "OK Google.  Navigate to ...."

I'm a fan of the Moto G series. I'm using a G5 now and happy enough. I'll probably get a G7 or something later this year. For the price, Motorola has down yeoman's work with their devices.

Moto is pretty much the bang of your buck champ in the U.S. right now. I have a G5+ that's still going strong.
